  1. What has TaoBums taught you?

I learned too much BS, it clouded my mind for a long time. I then learned how to clear that BS away and get to the core of the matter. I learned how to breathe in many different ways. I then learned to JUST BREATHE and relax. I learned there are many people with power. I then learned that many of those same people are not quite as balanced as they should be. I learned how to heal myself. I then learned those same exercises can damage just as much. I learned which martial arts are neijia and which are waijia. I then learned that there is no distinction, just a martial artist.
  2. What is your motivation for practicing?

Mainly because it saved my life. I needed something to restore my health and have devoted myself to further study so I can help others.
  3. That was me a few years back.
  4. Oops.

I just had to go and be a shit stirrer again. I was speaking with a friend online, not knowing the other person he was talking with was his former supervisor at the previous restaurant he worked. She suggested he eat there and I commented on the quality of the food's ingredients. She got super defensive. insulted my palate and then hedged with "...or it was an off day. What did you get?" I simply said what I had. My friend is a chef in a rather decent place and has eaten my foodl he agreed with me but asked to stop the topic. I apologized for sticking my foot in my mouth but the poor woman was very insulted and continued to argue for her restaurant. Yeesh.
  5. Any Tao Bums in Idaho?

I think fiveelementtao lived in Idaho for a little while. I don't know if he's still there.

  7. ketogenic diet

I did it in high school at the urging of my personal trainer/youth pastor. Along with exercising heavily 4x a week I was able to lose about 30 lbs in the first month. It made me feel wretched.
  8. I respectfully announce my resignation from the Dojo...

A good Systema class would also be a good option. You get hurt from day one, quickly puts your aggression levels in check when it's obvious you're going to go home sore.
  9. What made YOU laugh today/tonight ?

I think some familiarity with computer technology is required more than an odd sense of humor for that one.

  11. ...

Thank you for your time on Facebook chat today! I look forward to speaking with the Tianmen folks more.
  12. Energy Cultivation and electrical devices

I seem to have the opposite problem, they work better for me usually. I've always called it "computer qi" and my best friend in high school had it as well. I recall our computer repair class, we'd both gather energy from the LDT with our hands in a triangle shape, all fingertips touching, thumbs facing out, fingertips down. Then we'd lift our hands, rotating outward and up, the fingers now pointing to the sky and then breathe OUT into the computer. It would work and our teacher really hated us. I can usually tell when an electronic device isn't working properly, I tend to listen to them. Cell phone chargers sound like running water to me. Each microwave oven has its own song. Wireless networks can feel prickly if they're not working right.
  13. Right Mind/Left Mind

This hypothesis of neurology behind the right/left brain dichotomy has been disproven through fMRI studies.
  14. The Tao Bums Chatroom

    Anyone?
  15. The Tao Bums Chatroom

It's best to start a thread saying you're in the chat. Hang out for a little while and usually someone will join you.
  16. I thought I recognized that. The Wujifa guys focus quite a bit on fascial connection and I believe the founder of the art has an extensive taijiquan background from Chen and Yang lineages.

  18. Micro-cosmic orbit - a question

    Just keep breathing.
  19. BaguaZhang in Spain

If you can get a seminar in with Dan Harden I doubt you'd regret it. Looks like he'll be in Europe later in the spring. http://bodyworkseminars.org/seminar-dates-and-locations-2014.html
  20. I've mainly been told to keep silent simply to make things go more smoothly, the directive is intended for the general public but there are some things he has said it is just better not to talk about. I use the tattoos on my forearms as an invitation to talk about the arts I study. It's rare that anyone has the version of taijitu like the one on the tab icon for TTB or the pre-Heaven bagua. If someone knows what they are it's a pretty good indicator that we can talk. I usually get a few responses and I know not to talk to someone seriously about some things if I hear, "Is that the ying yang?" or "Is that the symbol from Lost?" or "Is that a spider web?" then I know it's just not even worth my time. My old roommate is involved in Stregherian tradition as is a former coworker. One friend recently started learning reiki and his girlfriend is quite accomplished in wing chun and reiki but she and I clash a bit, we're too similar. Of those people though my old roomie is the only one I see regularly and we don't really talk about practice, just the kids, his wife, and life. I figured out the "Muggle mask" a little while back so I couldn't easily be targeted by succubi. When I first started perceiving things in a waking state I was too wide open and had a lot pouring into me from other people. There was a woman at work a couple of years ago who tried to leach out of my crown one day, I was furious. She had the nerve to lay her left palm on the top of my head. I had a serious talk with her about how I didn't appreciate her actions, she was quite surprised I knew what it was she was doing and was able to counter it.
  21. I think it largely depends on where you are and how open the practitioner community is. Here in Arizona I didn't meet another practitioner other than my teacher until about a year after I stared learning. I have been instructed to keep silent IRL regarding just about everything in my practice that is not martially oriented or "yoga" so that I am not attacked.

  23. A few reasons but mainly the same as OldChi's reason above. The community used to be a wonderful resource when I first started learning, now I have so many people on ignore and wish some of the teachers we had here a few years ago would return. Still, it's one of the few places I can speak of the more esoteric side of my practice without sounding insane to everyone.
  24. What made YOU laugh today/tonight ?

    It's an older US sitcom.
