  1. Ah sorry, didn't know she was up North.
  2. BaguaZhang in Spain

If you can find purely martial bagua I'd go for that. Bagua is after all a MARTIAL art. Regardless of whether there are deeper health/energetic aspects to be taught in the art (depends on lineage as to the depth you are taught) you will gain benefit from any qualified in person instruction. Try to remember that these martial arts became famous because of fighting skills their best representatives possessed. The same body mechanics you will use for fighting will also be used in the more meditatively focused arts. Pa kua chang is how it was Romanized in the Wade-Giles transliteration system whereas baguazhang is the Pinyin transliteration.
  3. Some rather different skulls / people

The Yucatec Maya to this day bind the skulls of their children with two boards and rope. My teacher always laments his "Fucked up head" because they apparently didn't bind the ropes properly when he was a baby and the boards slipped.
  4. Active Release Technique is a very thorough myofascial release therapy system. The chiropractor I linked to is Master certified in it. I've received treatment from ART trained therapists and I can say that it has been the most effective myofascial treatment I've received including Rolfing, and John Barnes' Myofascial Release.
  5. This chiropractor is quite well educated and I would recommend him. She should inquire about ART. http://www.phoenixssm.com/ If she wants a good, low impact exercise program I recommend Yin Yoga. http://www.yinyoga.com/yin_teacher_directory_usa.php#Phoenix
  6. There is a Chinese cultural center in Phoenix where some decent herbalists have shops. I would ask my teacher for you but he is not currently available. Four years ago I was unable to walk due to sciatica, it was a lumbar vertebrae issue that developed post-stroke. There are a number of legitimate neijia instructors in the Valley but she has to be committed to the work if she wants the results. I would highly recommend several massage therapists and chiropractors in the area if you are open to non-Chinese treatments.
  7. The Drunken Taoist Podcast

I've been listening to this podcast and have enjoyed it quite a bit. http://thedrunkentaoist.com/
  8. Nice horse

Thankfully they are not as vocal. It drove me away from the forum when every other post was about that cartoon.
  9. What are you listening to?

    Right? It's a good'n.
  10. I would say the most likely reason for it is how defensible those positions are from those wishing to wreak havoc. It's pretty hard to become a spiritual master if one has to fight off bandits constantly.
  11. Unlearner IIRC the idea that the BIble was literal, factual truth came about in the 1800s. When the Pope declared his infallibility and himself as the representative of Gaaaawd Almighty the Protestants had little to counter with so they declared that the Bible itself is an unadulterated word for word account of history and all that Gaaaaawd wants. Today this is being used by Fundamentalist Christian groups to indoctrinate their children.
  12. I'm currently in Phoenix but going back to Sac very soon. Yes, I have been to Yosemite and as a child I had a very secular education from the advanced classes (2-3 grade levels ahead) I was entered in. It was a crazy dichotomy and caused much cognitive dissonance for me. One week I'm taking a trip to a nature preserve, being told all about evolution, ecological conservation, and learning biology then the next week I'm given a Ken Ham book and my preacher tells me the universe MIGHT be 10,000 years old if you go by Dake's gap theory... wait what?
  13. It's been going on for a while now. The whole reason Pastafarianism arose was to counter the ridiculous intentions of some school board in Kansas. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kansas_evolution_hearings Growing up I had young earth, Genesis-literal creationism shoved down my throat so far that I am sad to say I've probably read a dozen of Ken Ham's poorly written and completely illogical books in my life. I'm also not at all surprised that Arizona has some of the schools but I am surprised that California does not.
  14. That looks like the homeschooling material a lot of my friends growing up had. Is that from a public school?
  15. This cracked me up. A little humor on the subject. https://soundcloud.com/startalk/a-conversation-with-god?in=startalk/sets/podcasts
  16. Yeah listening to Ham go on and on with nothing in his sails but bluster is a bit painful.
  17. Do you live by your ideals/values?

Solitary homelessness is wretched, I was in a similar place myself a few years ago. I still don't have much in the way of material items and prefer it that way, everything I own fits into a roll away carry on luggage except for the knowledge in my head. I volunteer at the local food bank. I do my best to live as I feel is right, fail regularly, and keep trying.
  18. Yes! Ken Ham was someone that came through my church a few times as a kid. His material always seemed illogical and circular. I have mad respect for Bill Nye and have been waiting for this. Thanks!
  19. What are you listening to?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSAqkGU2nQ4 I saw these guys a few years back at the Tempe Block Party for New Year's Eve. It was a blast, smoking doobies with cougars, dancing in the limited space we had in the middle of the crowd. I smoked out some Canadians and had a bit of conversation, I was apparently the smartest American they had met.

  21. "You can't handle the TRUTH !"

Hey, I called my teacher from the psych ward once. Now though I'm the only one going to visit him in jail. Haha, it's crazy how life turns out sometimes. There are some things that should not be touched, I fully agree. I did something I had read about but wasn't prepared for that landed me in the psych hospital. I wasn't at all sane and went around the place healing people. One of my favorites was the kid I had a three day rap battle with to cure his stutter but my biggest accomplishment was curing my ex-girlfriend's schizophrenia, seizures, and anorexia.
  22. Yeah I've had a much better experience with online dating than the bar scene but it's not like that's been great.
  23. I just followed a lot of the items listed in this article with a friend. Hopefully things turn out well.
  24. I have the taijitu on my right inner forearm and xiantian bagua on the left inner forearm. I have been treating the area under the skin with trigger point massage and gua sha. After the tissue under my arms was more normal they are now like additional "eyes" for energy, almost like the palms of my hands. I've found that the xiantian bagua on the inner left arm is quite useful for empathic information from females.
