  1. Gua Sha

I'm not much of one for mudras but I do notice the difference in feeling and myofascial chains when using different hand and finger configurations during silk reeling.
  2. Gua Sha

I've found so far that this has been really great for my hands. Have a nice pink blooming on my palms and noticed a lot more vascularity on the backs of my hands.
  3. Yeah I watched something like this the other day about prisoners learning Vipassana.
  4. Gua Sha

My main interest in Daoist arts has been for healing, not so much for personal cultivation. I got rather interested in gua sha about two years ago. I still haven't had a chance to study Chinese medicine yet, need to pay my student loans some more. Also I used to have a chiropractor who was certified in Graston Technique which is a Western appropriation of gua sha. It's not thin and round but rather conforms to the hand. One side and edge is completely flat and there is a bent part of the stone with a "blade" on the end. It's similar to the link below but it kind of has a "handle" where it's a bit thicker. http://www.guashashop.com/gua-sha-th019.html Ran it over my forearms and calves yesterday, could feel the grains everywhere and I wasn't really going very hard but it was quite effective in releasing some tension. Here in Northern California it's hard not to make Asian friends. We have all kinds of stuff that people have given our family over the years. My mother is rather ignorant of these things and just says 'Thank you' and then puts stuff on a shelf or in a drawer.
  5. BaGua Help

Yep, that kind of walking is hard on the knees. Try to get the same feeling you have walking on your heels to walking with a strike just behind and inside of the balls of your feet.
  6. Horse stance

Oh and Kelley Graham is pretty legit. He's one of the admins over at Rum Soaked Fist. http://ucbprogram.com/
  7. Horse stance

Go bug the Tang Shou Tao guys, they'll give you a horse stance that's legit. It doesn't really burn until Sifu pushes you that extra centimeter over. http://www.natsta.org/?page_id=510
  8. Horse stance

Oh sorry, looks like he moved to Tampa. Don't know who to bug in the Miami area for some martially oriented taijiquan.
  9. Horse stance

Hey Old Green hit up Nick Scrima in your neck of the woods. Taiji is quite challenging when done properly in a martial manner.
  10. ...

Make sure you use the habanero sauce. I know it's no enticement to you but I'm always pleased with how the waitresses look at Restaurant Sinaloa.
  11. ...

I don't know if there are Restaurant Sinaloa locations in Tucson but I think so, I went to the location in Mesa. Get the botana de camaron y pulpo con limon verde. It's the only thing you'll eat all day and after you've napped you'll wanna fuck like a rabbit.

  14. Zhan zhuang pertaining to tai chi chuan

Aye, there wasn't much zhan zhuang in taijiquan until it left Chen village. Ding shi on the other hand has been a big part of deeper understanding of the body.
  15. Fear of leaving the body

I have a fear of leaving my body in meditative experiences because I know I won't come back.

  17. It is not a choice; this must be

"‘Here, suck this,’ said Roosta, offering Zaphod his towel. Zaphod stared at him as if he expected a cuckoo to leap out of his forehead on a small spring. ‘It’s soaked in nutrients,’ explained Roosta. ‘What are you, a messy eater or something?’ said Zaphod. ‘The yellow stripes are high in protein, the green ones have vitamin B and C complexes, the little pink flowers contain wheatgerm extract.’ Zaphod took it and looked at it in amazement. ‘What are the brown stains?’ he asked. ‘Bar-B-Q sauce,’ said Roosta. ‘For when I get sick of wheatgerm.’ Zaphod sniffed it doubtfully. Even more doubtfully, he sucked a corner. He spat it out again. ‘Ugh,’ he stated. ‘Yes,’ said Roosta, ‘when I’ve had to suck that end I usually have to suck the other end a bit too.’ ‘Why,’ asked Zaphod suspiciously, ‘what’s in that?’ ‘Anti-depressants,’ said Roosta. ‘I’ve gone right off this towel, you know,’ said Zaphod, handing it back."

  20. Help! Ive fallen and I can't get up.

Yerba mate has theophylline, theobromine, and caffeine, the trifecta of xanthines. Theophylline is a known bronchodilator and theobromine is one of the most effective cough suppressants. Both of those stimulants promote smooth muscle movement. You should already be familiar with the effects of caffeine. The synergy of the three does not cause the jittery feeling from too much coffee. The xanthines will also act as a leukotriene inhibitors which is the same action as some newer asthma medications. The first try is recommended with easy access to a restroom as the CNS stimulation can have a motivating effect on the bowels. Traditional preparation is recommended with a mate gourd and bombilla, I recommend a reed or bamboo straw if you don't want to drop the dough on silver. DO NOT HEAT YOUR WATER ABOVE 175F otherwise it will be too bitter. I recommend starting off with orange juice and a suave variety. If you choose to drink it cold it's called terere. There are guides available on proper preparation and I can write one for you if you would like. The Guarani natives of South America believe that an outcast man and his daughter became lonely and wanted to rejoin the tribe that had moved on. A shaman came and instructed them how to use the plant. They rejoined their tribe and brought health to the people. Some of the names of the drink translate to "what makes us live."
  21. Cooking up a storm

Thanks, I should have taken it out of the pan as it still cooked the shrimp a bit too much after I made my plate. Chewy leftovers.
  22. Cooking up a storm

It was for dinner. Gluten free in this house, used rice "spaghetti" and cooked it just a little harder than al dente before adding the shrimp and vegetables. Made a sauce out of Sriracha, olive oil, gluten free San J soy sauce, onion powder, garlic salt, two tablespoons of sugar, and I added some star anise before cooking.
