Why are we afraid to die if it's inevitable?
Jetsun replied to Tatsumaru's topic in General Discussion
I don't mean that life is an illusion, rather a lot of the beliefs and stories we live by (and will often go to great lengths to protect) are illusory, in the sense they don't match up to the reality of the way things really are.- 274 replies

Why are we afraid to die if it's inevitable?
Jetsun replied to Tatsumaru's topic in General Discussion
I think we are all afraid to die because we are in complete denial about the truth of the reality we live in, our minds work hard all day long every day to maintain the illusions and delusions we live by.- 274 replies

As far as my understanding and experience goes emptiness and unity are kind of two sides of the same coin. It is only possible to see that you are everything if it is realised that there is no "I" inside of you which is separate from everything else. If anything exists at all it must be part of you as it all arises within the same space, there are no boundaries to separate once your own individual sense of I collapses, it is all one big fluid thing, yet if you look into the essence of anything nothing can be found, so you can't really say what anything is or really if anything is. But in terms of how Buddhists categorise Rigpa I am no expert but I don't see how Rigpa isn't just another word for awareness, not consciousness because consciousness is conscious of something and consciousness isn't there in the deepest parts of sleep but awareness is. Thoughts, emotions, sense objects, the world, all arise within awareness, it is the only constant, it is the context while everything else is the content. Awakening is more about having a somewhat permanent realisation that you are this context, rather than exclusively identifying with a limited aspect of temporary content such as your body-mind complex.

On a basic level it's people who genuinely don't know who they are any more, are no longer trying to prove/assert themselves. People who have had a radical shift of identity out of individuality and seperation so it is recognised what they truly are in the deeper aspect of their identity is beyond birth and death

People have been trying to write texts as good as the gospels for hundreds of years, everyone has failed

I guess it depends in which circles you move in, I have met a handful of people who have awakened just this year,

You may not get rainbow body but anyone can realise the truth of who and what they are, one of the biggest fallacies going is that it is difficult, the other fallacy is that it is rare.

The story of Anita Moorjani is interesting, she had quite a remarkable NDE which was published in some medical journals. In her experience after dying of severe cancer she came to a realm of clarity where she understood her whole life and felt connected to everyone in a shared consciousness, then communicated with dead family members like her father.

I wonder if many of the Brexiters will be happy when the Tory government sign up to the free movement of people, reclamation of the borders won't even happen.
-
My plan for Brexit is: Short term we have no option except to come to some kind of arrangement similar to Norway. Long term I think we will need a restructuring of our economy as for a long time it has been too dependent on financial services and trading, in the short term this isn't going to change and all companies which have planned or recently set up offices here won't move, but the likelyhood of that changing over time is high now as many companies looking to set up new headquarters and offices will no longer chose London and will more likely choose Paris or Frankfurt. So the economic impact I expect to be a long decline rather than an immediate shock. To counter this I believe the short term prosperity from the doomed City should be funnelled into creating high tech centres and into universities. As soon as the Brexit result was announced the only company in the country to increase its share was the high tech company Arm Holdings, because it does most of its selling internationally. Where I am in Cambridge there is a growing Tech scene with companies such as Arm thriving partly due to good links with the world class University here. There is now a 'Silcone Fen' in Cambridgeshire with companies such as Microsoft and bio-tech companies like Astro-Zenica locating here. Our universities should continue to flourish no matter what and if this mutual relationship with tech firms is invested in and made with many of the other Universities in different areas of the country I don't see how we can't transition to a high tech economy. A high tech economy trades worldwide so won't rely on working with the EU and It is only by restructuring our trade away from the EU that we can really be free of its meddling. Also local economy and local individual farming of food should be encouraged, while the advances of technology such as Tesla means that energy self sufficiency isn't too far off. Will take a bit of planning but sorted. The government wont plan like this though, they will just do whatever they need to get elected

Trying to compare my argument to the Nazis you are better than that Karl. You know fully well what I'm talking about, all the voting statistics show a big divide between old and young, between the retired and those just out trying to make their lives. The young have to live and work with this decision far longer than the old, this is just a fact. There is mounting resentment with young people which is also a fact, due to issues like increasing debt and inability to buy housing, you can try deflect it away as ageist or Nazi but it isn't going to go away, rather this decision of exit is going to exacerbate the issue even further. But yeah that isn't the only divide, old/young, poor/rich, England/rest of Britain , so focus on only one of the areas (like the rich/poor divide which many people are pointing to as the only reason) is to not get the whole picture.

It was meant to be a move by the right wing of the Conservative party to blackmail the EU into more concessions and a better deal, they never meant to actually win and leave. They have been talking about this for years so if they really wanted to leave they would have a plan, which they don't . It was a massive gamble which has spectacularly backfired.

Well he is the one who is supposed to invoke article 50 now Cameron has passed that over to him, and there are many now suggesting that he may find a way out of actually doing it, as legally he doesn't have to. Perhaps that is remain camp grasping at straws but as Boris isnt a true Brexiter you never know, he may find a way to pull the plug.

You still haven't explained what control you hope to gain back? The world has changed, Britain has signed up to international agreements which dictate many areas of life and as already explained we will still have to abide by EU rules if we want access to the single market, without which we are ruined economically . Like I said it is a fantasy in the modern globalised world that we can go back to the days old where we decide everything. It's a big illusion even if we have voted out. And it is a legitimate area of debate to discuss the outlook and intentions of old retired people due to their influence on the leave result, a result they don't have to live with or try to earn a living in for very long. Not that it is exclusively an old young divide, but that divide is one of many issues we now face.

You don't lose Qi if you get out of breath, or if you do it doesn't have any adverse effects on health or longevity, rather getting out of breath is objectively proven to help both.

In that sense it may be a positive outcome for many European citizens, who are universally against things like TTIP and other issues that Britain was on the side of trying to implement onto the EU on behalf of American companies. But for us it probably means Britain has opened itself up fully to the horrors of American multi-nationals, goodbye to the British countryside and clean environment, hello to hormone injected beef.

, I wouldn't be surprised if Boris Johnson betrays your revolution, this guy is a full on European having grown up in an International school in Brussels and only went over to the leave side at the last minute, he has no heart or will in really cutting off cleanly from the EU

I agree with a lot of what you say there Karl, the Remain campaign was a disaster. I live in Cambridgeshire where many of the market towns voted over 70% to leave, mostly due to immigration and they do have valid issues which aren't being heard. Yet this issue about taking back control is a complete illusion. All other European countries which are outside of the EU who want access to the single market have to accept most of the EU rules including about the free movement of people, yet they don't get any say in the making of those rules. The Tory party has already come out and stated that immigration won't go down. So what control exactly has been reclaimed?

This is a roar from the retired old people who fantasise about a non globalised world which existed when they were children

I'm not a massive fan of Alastair Campbell but I agree with him 100% here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keDICf6Vax8 He is basically saying how bewildered he is how rich privileged millionaire elites like Boris Johnson and Donald Trump have somehow been given the status of standing up for the people against the establishment. Of course they aren't, they have no clue how regular ordinary workers live and don't care about them at all.

Its quite bewildering to be honest. Certainly some areas of the UK are going to reap the karma of their action. Some towns in Wales were showered with EU cash, millions each year for rejuvination and had very little immigration, yet they voted leave https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/jun/25/view-wales-town-showered-eu-cash-votes-leave-ebbw-vale . Poor areas of Cornwall had millions each year in grants, but voted leave http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/brexit-cornwall-issues-plea-for-funding-protection-after-county-overwhelmingly-votes-in-favour-of-a7101311.html There is absolutely no chance the right wing of the Tory party are going to replace this money, they will be lucky to even get a penny out of them, any extra rebate money will go into business and pockets around London. They have basically completely screwed themselves over.
