Using the fake to assist the real. Using the external rituals to channel the energy. Using others to assist self. Seeing others to better understand one own's energy. If you do not respect external, I do not believe you can respect the internal reality. Why? External and internal is the same. Both are expressions of a truth.

There are 30,000 methods to calm the mind. I can only offer the simplest suggestions. 1. breathing: Inhale, exhale, pause. The pause is the most important. You'll discover the meaning of a calm mind in the pause. 2. dan tien meditation. gently focus on the point between your nipples. 3. go for a 30 minute walk. Inhale 6 steps, exhale 6 steps. Once you are comfortable with this practice, then inhale 9 steps, exhale 9 steps. Keep increasing until you can inhale 18 steps, exhale 18 steps. 4. The martial arts that you perform is conditioning your mind. Listen to boxers try to formulate a sentence. They cannot, because their focus is speed and aggression. Learn a slower art like Tai chi or qigong to collect yourself. 5. Read the Tao Te ching aloud and very slowly. This can reform your energy and thought processes. 6. Get off Taobums and focus on your studies... haha

Breathing is good for people who can't calm the mind. Once you calm the mind, the cessation of breath is what is valued. Normal breathing is inhale-exhale-stop breath. With continued meditation, you'll find the phase where you stop your breath becomes longer and longer. Lao Tzu says that nothing is the creation of heaven and earth. And from nothing we can understand the expansion of the universe. What he is referring to is "yuan qi." This is the original qi from the universe that gave lives to all things. Do you want to experience this energy? Which phase do you think is most similar to what Lao Tzu described? But to your point. RAB is a more effective way of circulating qi than AB, because it corresponds to the natural function of breath and qi. Naturally, when you inhale, qi wants to go up. When you exhale, qi wants to go down. Normal AB opposes this, as your stomach bloats out on inhale (qi seems to go down and collect in the stomach area), and stomach contracts on exhale (qi seems to leave the lower dan tien region). RAB, on the other hand, supports the natural function of breath and qi. That is, when you inhale, the qi is pushed out of the stomach to upper part of the body, and when you exhale, qi returns to the lower dan-tien. This is not set in stone, though. In that, you can make qi go in any direction (up or down), in spite of the way you breath. The only question is, what is effective. I do not use either breathing techniques particularly much anymore, although breathing is important to learn in any cultivator's bag of tools. It's a good way to circulate qi. Yet if you can train your intention, you'll realize that qi is not breath, but breath facilitates qi.

In my study, the Taoist path of immortality is different than Mo Pai's. Yang Shen is the highest level of Taoist immortality, in which there is no trace of yin energy. You become pure positive energy. Look at my avatar of the circle. Remember in the Magus of Java? When John Chang saw that picture, he did not know what it was. This is the symbol for pure yang energy, or wu ji, the goal of taoist immortality -- there is no yin energy on the other half. What was Lu Dong Bing's name? Pure Yang. Obviously, he is the famous immortal of the 8. You often see him in pictures throwing a fireball. Furthermore, many of John Chang's interesting spiritual developments--such as seeing his own body--he only developed them when was a very high level in "mo-pai" terms. But in Taoist development, those are preliminary developments that can be achieved in 49 days with the right methods, but must be nurtured and nurtured and stabilized. In fact, 9 years of staring at a blank wall. I think that's what John Chang means when he says he is the head of a martial school. The emphasis is just different from the Taoist approach. No less powerful. Just different. Speaking of which, Yang shen and Yin Shen are totally different. There were two men. One man could go to a distant garden and come back. He could describe everything he saw. The second man could go to distant garden and bring back a flower. That's the different between yang shen and yin shen. So one is done consciously and real time, one is done in visions or dreams. In fact, my teacher told me yin shen was a bad practice that I should avoid totally. He did not expound why, but he said the soul could get lost. What was John Chang describing in his book when he went to the jungle, yin shen or yang shen? I don't have it anymore, so I don't know. Edit. I will add a point. There seems to be emphasis, in the book at least, that you don't need to be a good person or virtuous to attain the secrets in immortality, aka, go past level 30. This is completely contrary to the Taoist view. In Taoist traditions, you need to do 3000 secret deeds to benefit your fellow man to be eligible for those secrets.

How religions use guilt as an excuse to justify controlling others
thetaoiseasy replied to skydog's topic in General Discussion
Religion is often necessary. It's psychological help for many -- I would never refuse or deny help to anyone in need. People who are really desperate often need a savior. Sometimes, if people become serious enough with their religion, they can take the external projection and make it internal. That's like making someone sick before making them better. But at least they get better -- some of the time. If you can take responsibility of your growth and karma, then you can just enjoy religions as part of culture and appreciate it as a service. But you are never taken in by it. So no need to hate on religion, but treat it as a stepping stone and necessary evil in this society, until the day people begin to realize they must be their own God. As for people who use spirituality and religion to chain and deceive other people? They have done the unspeakable and will have their pay in due time. Don't worry about them. -
people use chakras to refine their energy, not fan their desires.
