  1. Yin/Yan and 5 Element theory quaint ancient ideas

    lol, Nice .
  2. Is music more yin or yang?

Interesting question. A mix of both almost to extremes which may need to both be balanced by yin and yang practices. Writing can be very yin if you sit alone in a workspace and write. It can also be very yang if you follow classical theory and work out every movement and harmony according to it's standards, or generally think intensely while writing music. Some physical activity (yang) would help for all the time being stationary, and some time away from writing, free and unstructured, could help to balance the mental intensity (comparatively yang) of writing. This also gets balanced out with performance though, as it is usually quite exciting and then you have fun and drink (hopefully not [too] excessively) and socialize which is very unstructured. Learning some qi gong and baguazhang basics would be one way to ensure that you can always add a bit more yin or yang without even leaving your work space if needed.

Well, thanks for your responses John C, but it seems quite obvious that we will be at it for longer than I care to argue with anyone over the internet. Hopefully you will not take it personally if I leave these questions unanswered, so that we can move on to more productive uses of our time and enjoyment of TTB. Peace H.E.

Not hard to predict based on past actions So why give them fodder? If you look up his name you will see that he is a pastor. It matters because they have political power and sway, which makes it irresponsible. What's negative about it? Not everybody is narrow-minded. Many more are impressionable and misinformed. Tell that to Nazi Germany

Actually, what I should have responded here is that: He was explaining the meaning of yin and yang, and yes he was explaining dualities, and yes I am jumping on the fact that he explained yin and yang as good and evil working in harmony. However, all the Christian fundamentalists and divisionist religious figures etc would love to hear that "Taoists believe evil and good balance each other out" so that they can continue to say that Eastern religions are selfish and have no morality. As I said, it is simply irresponsible to misrepresent the religion in this way, if not offensively and dangerously negligent. I know, and he knows, how fundamentalist Christians will hear what he said, and a large part of his audience is informed by this way of thinking. It was a huge error, unintentional as it may be, which is like sweet syrup for the ears of those who would like to discredit other religions. Maybe he would feel bad about it, but it really didn't help anyone..

It sounds like you also gave him exactly what he was literally asking for, on top of everything else. It's not like you tried to injure him afterwards. He wants to know what boxing's like - this is what boxing's like: You get punched in the face. Fun hey?

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.
  9. How do you handle other's intertia

Thanks for the reply Ya Mu. This is pretty much my approach now.. just waiting for them to join my side of the fence, and I'm glad you also see this as something perfectly respectful. As you said, it's not the person I'm trying to change, just trying to make them feel "lighter" or something without using any force as I don't like it, myself, when I feel like someone is trying to manipulate me into enthusiasm. However, if someone has some extra "shine" one day I'm perfectly happy to eventually "get up offa that thing" by my own accord. So basically, keep a good chi field in place and patiently let nature take its course. Works for me!
  10. Physical

In terms of changes that take place with age, yes supposedly hair changes back from grey, skin and hair and everything becomes younger and healthier looking. But to get this far I'm sure superficial motivations will not get you so far. A lot of it has to do with tonics and herbs too.
  11. Video about Taoism and Taoist Monks

No, you missed my point. He basically said that yin=evil which would mean that everything yin is evil. What is evil but total disregard for others which if related to yin or yang would be an imbalance of one or the other.. such as excessive yin taking from others, or excessive yang destroying everything in its path (though, sure, it gets more complicated than that). Neither yin nor yang is evil. He makes it look like Taoists worship evil which is an incredibly irresponsible thing to do in front of a Chritian majority audience. Well, what do you expect from the BBC but subliminally divisive programming.

See the last question/answer from Chapter 7, "Holding on to the Center." I think it answers your question exactly.

Geeze, didn't know cold was evil. Well, better throw out that devil loving refrigerator!
  14. ^^^ So you know this is actually a legitimate question, here are the lyrics: note as well, that in his autobiography, Brown mentioned that Native American drums were one of his influences...!
  15. How do you handle other's intertia

Yes, this is more what I'm talking about. Letting your positive energy remind others' energy "hey it's good over here" and they sort of come out of the mud.. I'd say I am mostly neutral with people I don't know, but I like to be engaged with people when I'm with them. I think it is inevitable that if you are engaged with someone you will both end up around the same frequency eventually, so it makes sense to bring them up. I know that when I am a bit low frequency and someone elses' energy is higher and they effect me I am glad for it. So, I don't feel that I'm looking to do anything suspect by doing the same. I think I do know what you mean about the shifting though . Yeah, the benign happy mellow frequency is cool. It's more the muddiness that seems to be pulling down that I want to clear away. Glad we're effecting you Marblehead

Sloppy made a very good point about internal structure. Even the water trigram is explained in this way, being flexible without loosing its essence. Don't forget that water must be respected as it will always be water and even a little can do a lot of damage. Sometimes we get small reminders of this which may prevent some of the more serious disasters that can happen when we fail to respect the nature of water. Expect it to be any different and it will quickly correct you. As a side note, please be careful. There has been a record number of water related tragedies in Quebec this year, already, as of early June
  17. How do you handle other's intertia

Yeah, I feel there is a natural harmony that takes place, lightening their energy just by influence, maybe charismatically, though I do have to be careful it's just more fun when you're both "vibing" and bumping up each other up Yeah, I'm not into using magic to override intentions, but just avoiding the pull down so they are pulled up naturally. Just the same as cheering someone up is not manipulation. Giving someone a smile might raise their energy level, but it's not some dark hoodoo to make them feel better right?

  20. Help to understand a experience during meditation

Personally I don't know much about what all the visions and things mean. I keep my eyes closed most of the time as I've read repeatedly that visions are mostly just distractions that can cause various illusions. It seems logical that once energy is building up it has the power to distort the vision so I figure whatever I'm seeing is just distortion rather than absolute. The important thing, imo, is what is happening internally. You might see something, but how does it feel? I think the importance is on this focus. If you feel something euphoric, then work with that rather than whatever visions it induces, imho. Chi tends to build up in the hands, maybe because the hands and feet hold end points of energetic meridians. Sounds like you were tuned up for it but never really turned it on so you had that sort of "virgin high" experience, hahah. I suggest learning some qi gong as you will quickly get more used to the presence of chi and likely feel it very quickly. I wouldn't get too freaked out about it though. Really, these are not uncommon experiences. Get into a good qi gong routine though b\c it's important to have balanced and balancing practices when working with chi energy. I find that Nei Gong is especially active after qi gong.
  21. Jing conservation / sexual balance

Yes, the dreams will diminish, especially if you meditate (sitting or standing) for a while before going to sleep to let the excess energy stabilize and also move upwards. When short on time, just letting the energy rise up the front channel to lower dan tien until you feel it is stable there, then later to the solar plexus which is sort of like a fire, and if you want to the heart but no higher, is also effective. However, in general you should follow the Secret Smile method which goes up the back as this purifies as it goes through a number of energy centers before reaching the dantien. It's also important to wake up a bit earlier as it's usually just before you wake up that those dreams occur. Sometimes the perrennium exercises will kick in during dreams too. I'm sure you've checked out the "100 days of Retention" topic as well. Lots of great posts on every page...
  22. Jing conservation / sexual balance

Great to hear! Yeah, the Secret Smile practice is awesome for harnessing the energies. Turning that creative energy into just enjoying life, and knowing that there is more to life than just "feeling okay" and that you don't have be intensely positive to be positive.. It's good that you've found that "mellow high." That is a very good space . You've applied the practice to your life. That's going to teach you what you need to know, imho. 23. The Enjoyment of Music and Singing

I think sometimes music can bring one more into Tao. One might be unnecessarily repressing things which music can loosen up. Or if one is feeling really down, sometimes depressing music can actually get them out of it by allowing them to accept those feelings and move on.. I think a big part of it is that a musician has an instrument of expression, a tool of expression, to express things that they otherwise might not be able to. When they get in and search these emotions they can become more aware and accepting of their deeper feelings. This, in itself, I think is very healthy as it relaxes the mind and reduces the stress of holding these things back.. allowing a sort of emotional wu wei.
  24. I've found this list of precepts to be very helpful in keeping a proper view of true and false paths while trying to walk a spiritual path. Just posting it here as I think it could be very beneficial for all those who walk spiritual paths. "The Supreme Path, Rosary of Precious Gems" I find these precepts to transcend the limitations of any particular spiritual path, and so am putting this in the General Discussion area rather than the Buddhist Discussion. I hope all will enjoy their wisdom!
