Thus far it has been established that yi is an intentional chameleon of aberrant change and directed attention and it opens the secret elevator down to the basement where the gardening tools and bikes of spirituality are stored. Good, time for a shower and late lunch.

Well, you're missing the point. If your reasoning doesnt turn back to the starting point where men should not orgasm, women have some sort of mysterious, exotic, obscure endless reserve and practice vampirism or succubic parasitism (while also being qualitatively inferior and impure) while people who are homosexual cant be taken into accord because they just mess up the logic and all the quick and easy answers go awry,If the world doesnt fit a particular logic then the world is wrong, because reason and the logical unfoldings of living energy set the rules. Btw, i'm adding a caveat just to play it safe: i found your post very funny and steeped in my favourite type of irony now that i read it again and i'm trying to banter with sarcasm about ideas that i hear variations of on weekly basis. It makes me sad and upset, so instead i joke, it's a mechanism to cope with the pain while reminding myself that the majority i'm part of (swm) has me collectively responsible for all our shortcomings even though theyre constantly pointed out by first and second hand witnesses. So much in fact there are whole fields of academic discipline and study. I mean no offense to anyone i'm not trolling.

Yeah, i was in a hurry to post earlier but i get what you're saying. I'm not at all against people using illustrative language that arent on the dot correct but give you an idea, but i've heard afew similar rants about quantum mechanics in situations that just became cringeworthy. Your previous teacher sounds like he was ripe and ready to fall off the branch, good on you! Mostly it's completely exhausting for me to put up with people who argue that science has a logical truth-value of it's own when all that serves is to fill their own fallacies. It's like peddling sunflower seed oil calling it superglue. Then you got your "recent studies have shown" ads and lobbyists who quote cherrypicked secondary statistical conclusions as bonafide firsthand quantitative material. And at that point we're not even taking semantics and expanded associative meanings. If one is a manipulative douche or just a blind fanatic it's not at all hard to ducttape all sorts of proofs together and expand it with speculative questions right? That kind of stuff really pushes my buttons. I also proclaim myself as a low-odds favourite for winner of "TDB Neologism championships of 2017" with my brilliant typo: "Pornlem". Ooh, Emmh Gee. Somebody facepalm me.

Daoism necessarily incorporates physics and science. Science is hardly what get portrayed in media or arguments made by those who twist science into undisputable proofs and whatnot. Real scientists understand the principle that your results are o ly as good as your questions and that sometimes the answer is a new question to a whole new pornlem.

If you're feeling hot from inside i've found drinking iced water slowly (not slamming a whole glass one after the other) you gradually direct the heat of thebody to warm the cool liquid back to body temp, it works best after exercising, an have a couple of glasses over a long time, sip by sip. But maybe thats not so good then? You say it upsets the yin yang balance which i hadnt thought about, can you explain it a little more please? I dont want to give out dangerous advice in the future.
-
Have a couple cold drinks of water with ice. Cooling showers are good too but not cold ones, just not warm if you get my point? I also suggest rubbing or scratching your skin and sit around in your underwear for a while, sometimes opening pores up helps the skin dissipate heat better. Dont go sit in a cold draft or something, just strip a layer off and relax in your home. And have a cold drink. Hard to beat cooling from the inside

Marvels Iron Fist [potential spoiler alert]

Who does run Hollywood? Illuminati, Aliens, the Lizards our lords and masters (praise to their teeth and claws for they are the scales that balance our insolence and uneducated ways)? Huge monetary interests that equal the most insecure teenagers in selfassuredness and integrity? -

Yes, we did. And what is this Airmover you are talking about? There is no such movie or anything related to it, stop gaslighting the people. -
Oh snap, i had missed that post about lesbians not existing, it intrigued me because i spoke to one just the other day and thought "i must have been mistaken then." But i did a search anyway and apparently, i've seen a source on TDB saying it's such a valid nonexistence based on traditional medicine that some people would agree with others on that. Usually that is the outmost pinnacle of stringent argumentation: if someone agrees with someone, then it cant be anything other than truthful fact... *ahem* I laughed. I'm sorry, i know it's bad form to laugh when people say terrible things but i did laugh.

I've had issues with those readings of yin yang, as i believe femininity and masculinity were common ways to illustrate the dynamic interrelationship between things, the big takeawY from there for me was always that if they stop moving, transforming and shifting this immobility will in itself cause a new cyclical shift further along. All the metaphors of opposites and polarities make no sense without each other. What was regarded as feminine and masculine back in the days when this stuff was written? Wojld be interesting to know. I think gender roles in the TTC are metaphorical. Looking at true nature, wu wei and the grand ultimates then gender roles and societal situation that need to be taken in account start to take on a very confucian aspect of rules of "proper" position and decorum. I still think heaven smiles upon those who follow their true nature, even through ordeals and hardship. Being gay sounds like following ones inner nature to me at least. If i understand correctly jing is spent making semen. And skin. And phlegm and earwax. Semen is high priority production in a healthy male body (or at least thats what i hear but who knows) and that is one of many signs that jing is abundant. Of course frugality is good and not being exhausted is a good way to make ones pre-heaven stores less strained for longer so dont waste jing making more semen than you need and make sure to replenish post-heaven stores so you have energy to spend... 2 cents at least...

Some article mentioned "white savior" trope, highly relevant in a lot of these things methinks, paleface turns up and kicks ass or gains hi-level priviledges so fast it makes no sense. Last samurai for instance. I guess it could be offensive if it had to cast an "asian" in a move to be non-offensive. Imo the issues lie in the original script and character: Danny Rand is a childish and sometimes condescending prick even though he's a decent person mostly. As entertainment it's pretty cheap. One thing i did notice is that most people of color turn out to be badguys one way or the other, that could have been easily avoided. Now Hundred Eyes should have been it's own series, way too short indeed! I'd be happy if it was just a "villain of the week" show, it'd still rock -
Ooh, i saw what you did there, smooth!

Thanks peeps for this! For sure: Hundred Eyes is the obvious big boss, i couldnt get through Marco Polos second episode, but i go bled up the Hundred Eyes special and watched it again a week later because it was captivating. ST you make a very good point about the economics involved in tv-shows vis a vis spending time to optimize the details. Dust: yes. Oh dear me yes, please just kill the bastard and be done with it. Wolverine has his spanners in the works also but it's almost always entertaining to see/read! Most definetly the story is following a certain script. It's almost as if the gazillionaire orphan with legendary martial skills is a convenient way to establish a no-loose-ends violent but lovable character AND kill off the "yeah but how did s/he get that gizmo or technique?" "Shut up, here's what: unlimited cash resource and ninja training, satisfied?!" Seattle: right? Right? Jones sticking his ass out like that, why?! It takes one quick google and 15 minutes to find out how it ought to look halfway decent. Not that i'm saying Jones derrier isnt fine, but it just looks horrible. Sure, for a trained eye even proper Shaw stuff looks weird and full of errors but it's cinema. It's easy to let a crappy stance or follow up slide when the overall illusion doesnt rest on thin ice. And i have to say that high level fight stuff doesn't make the monk. Quick example: Donnie Yen and Michelle Yeoh got brutal chops and make it look good and easy, but some productions they're in just lack storywise while others that are remarkably cheesy just work anyway. For Donnie "14 blades" is a flop, no matter how awesome it is to watch him take out baddies by spitting chicken at them. Michelles role in "True Legend" is kickass, even if it's a great flick the sheer amount of cheese-melt is annoying. Michelle and Gordon Liu make for interesting turns, have badass skills and costumes that look really comfy Iron Fist has displayed a huge hole and some of the worst kung fu i've seen lately. To find a silver lining or two: there is room for much improvement and it's weirdly encouraging to see what is passable tv does a lot worse than some first year martial arts students. Gives hope for the future. I'm saying that with a complete lack of irony and sarcasm btw. Onward forward, upward ever! So, the hunt for a decent or good KF show is on. I'll wash my eyes with some old Shaw or Jackie scenes. Almost all portrayals of Beggar So are dope also. Drunken fist for the win! -
Now that would be very interesting to hear some first-hand accounts of! Understandable if it's not something one would feel 100% comfortable with outing, but it would be very very interesting to get a glimpse of how a transition can affect cultivation. I'm guessing, far out on a limb, that the hormonal changes, operations, illnesses that occur in anyones lifespan can be significant so how to discern? Otoh: For me i've only gone through puberty (didnt cultivate before or during so who knows?), surgery, self medication by alcohol and different cycles of mood and neurological meds, they've all had some impact but how they translate is hard do say, in hindsight i seem to have stayed the course and kept on discovering and developing my practices. I'm not equating the above with transitioning of course, it's just hard for me to say how i'm different from other people since i have little experience of their cultivational history and how they view it. Rant rant, i'm going to stop here for a while now, sorry if i go off on tangents...

However, even if there could be a wish to cause agitation i think it's important and brave to ask questions about homosexuality, transgender, queer etc if one does indeed feel ambivalent or confused, even if only "how should i treat this, what can i expect from others here". Asking the question is a brave also, the asker runs the risk of being stigmatized or yelled at or even worse getting new perspectives on something that's not necessarily so easy for everyone to wrap their head around And it relates to identity, what kinds of meanings we put into the body-gender-orientation-mind etc etc questions and answers we take for granted. "Who is the man and who is the woman i bed then?" However frustrating and offensive that question is it can be very honest without malignant intent. Sure, there might be a lot of snickering because those who tend to ask such things rarely consider being a woman as good as being a man, especially if that woman is a man... it's very confusing for some. I grew up in a context where the most gracious attitude to gay men was "they are neurological,y dysfunctional and cant help their confused state", lesbians did not exist, crossdressing was disgusting and trans was incomprehensible and aggravating. I never subscribed to those views myself but i had no clue how HBTQ-people lived and felt because it clashed with my idea that identity had an axis around which it rotated around having a gender-coded body that made up ones personality. But what i heard about "other" lifestyles made no sense, assumptions on pedophilia, mental illness, being a broken person, violence, rape etc. It just made no sense. There was not one person with direct experience i could ask until my early 20s when some friends came out to me, they were very patient with my questions and i sadly don't see them anymore but they're a big part of how i see our world and it's inhabitants today. But there are many many sources to ask and read on the web before one gets into the specifics of gender and identity in taoist contexts... it's a complex topic.

I think the Tao smiles upon those who fight to be themselves and endure many ordeals to protect their nature. Transgender people are among those who really do imo.

Is becoming a Creator the height of Spirituality?
Rocky Lionmouth replied to MooNiNite's topic in General Discussion
To be that guy: You cant avoid being a creator and a destructor every day. Shuffling the materials and energy around a person creates something every day as well as destroying something. Often by its "counterpart", meaning destruction is a creative act and vice versa. If you are an artist you place heart and skill into doing. I'm an artist but i call myself a craftsman because it's a better description. Technique and experience matter, they only grow with painstaking work and the only way to keep doing that is either because it brings you joy or satisfaction somehow, imo at least. People who say they cant help themselves or stuff like that enjoy the satisfaction of having completed their compulsion if thats what it is My disposition might give me the inclination do create things that are deemed beautiful, at times at least. But it is no more a divine process or spiritual height that having skill with a rifle, servicing a vehicle, tending a wound, planning a trash route or whatever. An artist is already on a gong fu path, that is beneficial for their understanding of many things if they are prepared to see whan an exquisitly ordinary and human endeavor they are pursuing. It's not theatrics, it's not illusionism, it can be communication or a way to illustrate concepts and context by way of interaction, where a reciever of the work can use their impressions and direct experience to relate, organize, delve deeper or what have you. I'm of the "everything is magic so what makes one thing more special than another?" idea camp, AKA "Nothing is magic". Boredom and dullness are my teachers -

Daoist attitude to diet in the modern world

It's cool to drink distilled water? I thought that stuff was toxic (something about the molecular structure affecting the outer layer of red blood cells?) even in small amounts but you're obviously doing fine ST so there's that for me to consider- 43 replies

Daoist attitude to diet in the modern world
Rocky Lionmouth replied to DSCB57's topic in Daoist Discussion
I do know that there is a classification of foodstuff and tastes that places them in the 5 Phase system. I remember @Taomeow saying that it was a pretty complex thing to determine wether a certain produce or spice etc was metal, wood, fire, water or earth in it's fefect and i have no clue how to do it myself. It's easy enough to find online info about but it barely scratches the surface i think.Iirc taste, nutrient content, energy, color, smell and so on each play a part. Combining a meal that is suitsble to your specific situation (boosting this, lowering that) Yin and yang food is a thing also i think, like hot and cold, wet or dry etc. The 5 Phases relate to the organs, the body, the mind: emotions (negative) and virtues (positive). This isnt to say that one food will always have the same effect on everyone (except a few ingredients that are almost always good as i understand it) because we are all different and our phases can be more or less harmonious, it takes training and experience to understand these things, it's a whole paradigm of science and a lot of people cherry-pick stuff from traditional and classic chinese medicine, mix a little of this and that etc. Trained TCM and CCM practitioners also have a few different theoretical systemtics to base their analysis on. TLDR: food is medicine basically and it affects us on a complete level: body, mind, energy, emotions. Certain ingredients may be beneficial for some and they might be affected by other ingredients. But on a general level: to be healthy one should eat fresh food that is cooked without damaging the ingredients, food that smells scrumptious without adding a lot of extras, if there is no smell and taste, it's not really doing much for your body and therefore your emotions will be affected. Rough example: a person who has a natural tendency or a habitually caused water deficiency shouldn't overdo sweets (sweet relates to earth and earth absorbs water). If you have a water phase problem it can be reflected emotionally through a fearful disposition, perhaps your metal phase is being sapped by it so depression might come. Pinch of salt: the above is merely examples of it, i'm not sure if i illustrate it correctly in the details, i'm just trying to tie the 5 Phases into the discussion.- 43 replies
