  1. Mawangdui texts

    Ironically enough, MB and I once had a PM exchange on the MWD.... here is part of our exchange but updated with a few items: Dawei: Here is what I found out: - D.C. Lau did one in 1974 but the criticism is that he didn't stick to the MWD enough... so enough of him. - Boltz: There was some comments of his having written one but I only find a journal article... so let's journal that. The most promising and available: Mair: Tao Te Ching: The Classic of Integriry and the Way But here online: [The] File [on the Cosmic] Track [and Individual] Dough[tiness]: Introduction and Notes for a Translation of the Ma-wang-tui Manuscripts of the Lao Tzu [Old Master] I have one from Taiwan which is chinese-english. Very articulate english. But this is the one I mentioned early which translates Dao as "divine law". The Old Master Modernized Laws Divine and Human (Chinese-English Edition) MB: “ And I found a Red Pine translation of the ttc and immediately grabbed it as I have never had access to his translation. And guess what. He used the Ma-wang-tui texts. Copywrite date is 1996and first printing in 1997. He translates from a Shamanic point of view so I am sure I will have problems with some of his translations. But I still want to read it. “ Dawei: On Amazon: Red Pine Hendrick: MWD Translation

  3. The best thing you should do is always follow your feeling/heart/instinct on what works best for you... and that might change over time, so remaining open is as important. If one is your cup of soup, sounds (and tastes) great I would read several just to see what style you prefer and then narrow down. Do you tend to like short & literal, more wordy, vague yet mysterious, spiritual elucidation, etc. I've read likely 60 authors and versions. Here is a great single location to test many authors words: http://terebess.hu/english/tao/_index.html I have Chan's book... and his notes are great. I've moved on from him but he is a great fall back when I question some passage. So if you're settled on Chan for now, you made a great choice for the bedside table
  4. Time to Rotate

    This is the title of the very PM I sent to MS to let him know that staff would be rotating. I do recall talking to an ex-mod, Zero, who recommended staff rotate at 8 months... I found that very insightful as the previous staff went to almost a year and that was longer than it should go. At this point, there are two new mods and two more I am talking to to join. MS is now back to regular member after 8 months as a volunteer who didn't ask for all the BS but endured it as well as can be expected. I'd like to thank MS for his tour of duty
  5. Time to Rotate

    Admin Note: I realized that the original locking and message could be misinterpreted, and too much read into it. There is review going on but no one is in present danger of summary execution
  6. Time to Rotate

    True... but I suspect (my feeling) is that folks have gotten used to the idea of how these threads may turn... a few have commented on this. Like the crazy uncle syndrome... let him do his thing... and move on. You could report some posts so I can see your point but as you know we act on very few reports in the end...
  7. Time to Rotate

    Actually I started the thread so do I have owner's permissions... actually no... but yes due to being staff But nobody has reported anything... yet. I appreciate the point your making. I can only say this: This area we tend to treat slightly differently because based on announcements, emotions get stirred and there can be a lot of steam to blow off.... and if not here, than somewhere else on the board. This instead of somewhere else feels more appropriate. Maybe we need to rename it to Forum and Tech Support and Blowing off Lots of Steam ?
  8. Time to Rotate

    Read the latest PM... and the original PM that was started... That is where the Administrative conversation started with you and was stated as needing to remain in the PM exchange.
  9. Time to Rotate

    Open, accepted and knighted
  10. Time to Rotate

    I think the controversy is fueled by conspiracy... the rumor went that, Chat had been taken over and next is the forum... I heard this from 2-3 people, and each time I replied that is absurd... never going to happen. But the idea seems to continue to today...
  11. Time to Rotate

    There is rarely a sole reason... but timing is [almost] everything... Moving on is actually a good thing
  12. Time to Rotate

    I'm sorry you see it all that way... maybe it seems hard to realize that there must be a time to rotate. And certain circumstances make certain times seem more appropriate. Now is a good time with two new mods and two more in discussion. Recruiting for staff takes almost the entire year. Folks who agreed now I actually asked before you last year. Someone who agreed in the middle of the year has not turned it don't. So it is important me to strike a rotation when the iron is hot. Sometime I've said before: Admin's tend to know most of what is going on, Staff maybe 70% and members maybe 50%. I am enthusiastic about and supportive of most of the groups which have come through here. But I don't expect everyone to know the extent of that. I was accused of supporting Mopai too much too when many wanted them booted off. I was supportive of Lomax's group when issues arose with that. I'm supportive of the healers, psychics and magic and astral folks on the board and have worked with several to see and understand their practice. I think some like yourself have focused so much on one group, and then wanting to be critical, that you've missed a bigger picture on some level when on staff. I think you have some angst feelings and your wife, for some reason, lashed out when I have never talked to her. So you may be telling her more than meets the eye, as is happening here. But I appreciated your time on staff.
  13. Time to Rotate

    You had your chance once or twice to run for the hill I recall an ex-staff member saying in a thread on moderation that they thought 8 months was a good time to rotate... Looking back, the previous rotation was almost a year as they were willing to put in extra time but I don't think it was a good choice now. So, it seems to me that it is better to rotate sometime before that... no shame in serving out any length tour.
  14. dbl post?

    Double Dutch Bus Or just view it:
  15. Please welcome Cheya as the newest addition to the moderator team. She thought she could get away from my request of 9 months ago... but I don't give up easy on someone who has been a strong contributor and supporter of TDB. If I have contacted you in the past, this is fair warning, I'm coming again
  16. [TTC Study] Chapter 1 of the Tao Te Ching

    Maybe we can say, the secrets are useful
  17. dbl post?

    Double dog dare
  18. Gospel of Thomas

    ~~~ Admin Notice ~~~ The last few posts were brought to our attention. This is a topic started by a member with Owner's Permission, so they are able to tidy-up the thread. But if trolling comments continue to get reported then staff may take action... carry on ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  19. Forums Outdated
    Thanks. I do appreciate the detailed response. That is an add-in to the board software, so I'd like to see if folks find it a useful addition in terms of expanding the forum software.
  20. Forums Outdated
    Thanks for the info. I had posted this link about the future of this forum, but I've not really looked into it to understand it... Do you see any value in this? https://invisionpower.com/files/file/7264-group-collaboration-full/
  21. Are we overcomplicating this?
    Just for reference... this is translation from Zuowang. http://www.oldoakdao.org/yahoo_site_admin/assets/docs/Zuowang_-_Shi_Jing.176122155.pdf
  22. Just an update... We have been testing IPS4 and found two rather major issues in how they changed permission assignments. One of them they admitted was intentional and another as a bug. Our plan to see when they fix at least the one issue so we can test it. A big part of upgrading would require Sean to skin the theme. There are no real timelines at this point but we're willing to go to the supported version if it can handle the permission setups we're after.
  23. Problem signing out
    I noticed that too... I don't appear to log out until I clear cache. Maybe someone has some comment.
  24. I believe in path over practice... the path brings the practices.
