And maybe the coffee itself too... so what difference is there between the mug containing the coffee and the coffee contained by the mug?

I'm curious to at least hear you describe your two iterations more. Not sure if this is the thread to pursue this... but how do you know it is not more than two iterations?

I believe I am common sense at its core. And I think Wu Wei is the daoist concept of it to some degree. I once meet a guy who had developed some technology and my first thought was, "this is 20 years ahead of its time"... he was a 'genius' in this regard. He just didn't have a practical side to creating a tech revolution for this invention. He told me during my job interview, "I have not meet someone who can talk from common sense about anything I throw at them... he hired me purely due to that feeling". The point is not that we need everyone at the same High IQ or the same common sense. We will always have a diverse level within humanity. To attempt to destroy the natural diversity is really showing a lack of intelligence. JMO.

Strength and Vitality: A West vs. East view
dawei replied to thelerner's topic in General Discussion
If someone knows chinese culture, the answer is simple and the same. Their tradition wants 30 days of bed rest... some areas may want to serve black chicken (you can buy that at local asian markets too)... but that is getting into the lack of nutrition ideas. A US woman is likely back on her feet in 3 days and doing some small chores... Now do you see the point? -
Can you please tell me the names of Daoist scriptures and their authors?

While this area was conceived as a softer place for newcomers to start threads of interest, there is really no restriction on how complex the topic goes if it is on topic. And in the long run, some of them can be moved to more appropriate areas but the hope is that newcomers simply feel this is an open and welcoming place to post when they otherwise are unsure where to post. -
What if what you are looking for is nothing... How would you know you found it? If you found it, then it would be 'something' and would then mean you didn't really find what you are looking for... The point is: Why is one seeking something? As long as we're seeking, we are not being lead naturally... we are prisoners to tradition, practice, and seeking...

Strength and Vitality: A West vs. East view

Your just talking from theory and thought... it would be much better to just experience it directly yourself. As that might not be possible, you can try to understand what is stated or not. I've known this for a long time based purely on observation but my [chinese] wife bemoans the fact of this difference in the two cultures. I'm not going to try and justify either side as better or the causes, etc. We could do hundreds/thousands of examples... Let's take a very simple and universal example of child-birth: How long does a chinese lady need (or think they need) to recover from child-birth compared to a western woman? -
My point in the last part is that I suspect he wants a binary decision making processing which likely would answer the same question in different situations with the same answer. On the other hand, 'common sense' needs to view the entire situation and change even one variable can change the answer. I'm likely just making an argument that what the world doesn't need are robotic decisions just because it is based on a high IQ but rather common sense should prevail.

I wanted to come back to this... Tao is primordial guidance but what you 'hear' is from just an emanation of Dao. For our purposes, it is the manifest world. But we are just psychical half of the emanation; The other half is the spirit realm. Taken together, there is not two parts but our minds like to treat it that way. I do belief you are here due to guidance of some divine being. As are all of us, but you seem to know it on a certain level. I would say, Dao=Path=Destiny.

it is not about grabbing power. Just an intellectual, logical pretend-framework of, attempt to a binary understanding of life. It is the ultimate misunderstanding of duality. So your latter point is about the "individual". So I don't disagree with the point. This comes closer to the reality about what High IQ means (and where it falls short). Here is my litmus test: Given 10,000 situations, which do you choose? A High IQ would likely judge in similar fashion to each situation but 'common sense' would show that each situation needs its own outcome. Ergo, a test of one's common sense is actually much more in need than a test of one's High IQ.

Strength and Vitality: A West vs. East view
dawei replied to thelerner's topic in General Discussion
There is a deeper issue going on... likely DNA level. East: Weak constitution; needs herbs; needs rest; needs social stimulation. needs constant vocal from others of "mei shi" (doesnt' matter). West: Strong constitution; likes to drink and eat freely; can co-exist in social and individual space. Has their own opinion for what matters. -
I'll likely watch the other videos provided as well but I find that he is a victim of his own thinking at times. The "priesthood of the elite" and population control is too reminiscent of the movie Gattaca. He talks of some ultimate agreements made on the basis of logic not dogmatic quibbling... yet he doesn't realize he'll end up with disagreements based on varying interpretations of logic. As a joke I once heard goes, "if everyone agrees, then nobody else is needed". So his ultimately ideal is everyone is just a clone of his own thinking. He bemoans how the world is lead by dummies.... and then extols the modern technological world. He praises his early speaking as something meaningful and yet compared his IQ to Einstein. Einstein didn't talk till age 5. He claims to a 'trick knee and bad back'... and his choose of work is to be a bouncer.

Does anyone know the Origin / Artist of this Artwork?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neijing_Tu While the original Neijing tu provenance is unclear, it probably dates from the 19th century (Komjathy 2004:11). All received copies derive from an engraved stele dated 1886 in Beijing's White Cloud Temple 白雲觀 that records how Liu Chengyin 柳誠印 based it on an old silk scroll discovered in a library on Mount Song (in Henan). And on TDB, here -
But I'm wondering if the problem is that there isn't room for 'valued education' to get in and grow roots for some reason... meaning, other stuff now fills those part of their brain cells and keeps the more important stuff from getting in. The fact that there are changes to be noted, like you mention, suggests there should be some explanation. I am not so sure it is simply teaching has degraded. At a time when we think we are all getting smarter, education appears to be moving in reverse. But I'm not sure we can blame education. It may be responding to the problem that kids don't seem to get it... I think education has failed in a few different ways and it is not really seeing how or why on some level... So while education may be failing kids, the kids may be failing education too but by the outside influences of social issues... which also might be to say that parents are failing them in this. I think there is a blame to spread around. So I am not so sure we can just re-introduce the material at a younger age, if there is just not room to pack it in...

My feeling is that it is not so much that children are taught there is no value in learning... they are learning but what they are learning is changing. And it may be that the value is coming more from social rather than educational pursuits. Maybe put another way, the social stimulation has changed over the years and that seems to be gathering 'value' in a sense.

You said "last few years"... Where are you going with it? What is the goal? Or in another way... are you pursuing or being lead somewhere?

You mean they should tear it all back down?

As you seem to want religious scriptures, they are generally a small collection of short text in although some go to specific topics like neidan practices. The more exact you can be the better. The one book that comes to mind is Early Daoist Scriptures by Bokenkamp Have a look here on our site: http://www.thedaobums.com/forum/439-miscellaneous-daoist-texts/ These are small publications which can actually all be found online somewhere and I'll continue to post there.
