  1. Nihilism

Fair enough... but what you call the freedom of choice for that road is a choice towards some destiny... the other path is also a destiny but known only to the gods
  2. Spirit Essence

So you mean: The spirit is the essence [De] of all things Seek and find this spirit The shaman knows this spirit and so it is revered In revering the spirit one knows the beginning of all things; the ancients called this 'Spirit Way'. It was the ancient understanding. The ancients knew and revered the 'Spirit Way' and so Dao became a reality Dao is the way things are, the spirit is the essence [De]. Make life simple and follow the Dao, you then may become closer to the spirit essence [De].
  3. Nihilism

I may of misunderstood your quote and I can only share what I am expressing. Your comment was: "without true self or the working in that direction in one way or another "all is the vanity of vanities" IMO, this is religious dogma approach to spiritual journey... if you are not doing this then your going to hell... kind of thing. It is making the spiritual journey a bit black and white for my taste. Instead of judgement over the direction (or lack thereof), I view it as: Everyone is where they are meant to be... and journeying as they are meant to journey.... in this lifetime. There are many more to effect something further. So I take a destiny point of view rather than what one is working on or not as 'meaningless'.
  4. Yes, Jetsun has explained it correctly and it is the sub-forum which is 'women only'. And while Nuwa and Fuxi do not exclude the other gender, it is supposed to be strongly focused topics to the one gender. That was a mouthful, so I'll try to give some examples: Nuwa: Topics focused on women's cultivation but men could post to it if the topic is focused on women's cultivation. Fuxi: Topics focused on men's cultivation but women could post to it if the topic is focused on men's cultivation. Kunlun Garden Grotto: If the topic is cultivation for both genders or when in doubt about if the focus is really going to be on one side, then also post it here. @Seth: Thanks for raising this... members with some history here know this is not about segregation but rather an attempt to value all members... and a recognition that a 99% male forum do not easily extend such value to female members. I believe this has given some female members something they would never otherwise get and gives them a reason to be here... and opens up our gender discussions even more.
  5. Spirit Essence

This made me realize that I tended to view 'De' as the essence of Dao (and thus all things). How would you differentiate Spirit and De ?
  6. Screen/account name change request

Done This will affect your login and display name.
  7. Nihilism

This is not vanities but destinies... Acceptance of this is chicken soup for the soul...

  9. Thoughts on Wu Wei

I generally agree... there is action... the motivation or intention matters. I probably disagree here... Eat when hungry, sleep when tired. One doesn't need silence or stillness; one just needs to be of one mind with the internal seeing/sensing. This is much simpler than most portray and children have it the easiest of us all; How many children are silent and still
  10. I have had Qi tear drops in the past doing the MCO but that seems to me to be an overflow of Qi pouring down the eyes. Here is another thread: http://thedaobums.com/topic/32200-energy-stuck-in-head/
  11. I'm a follower of tongue at point #1 24x7... fire position. And right for the MCO. As Dr. Yang says, don't let it touch the teeth as that will make the body feel tired. Another related thread: http://thedaobums.com/topic/24056-microcosmic-orbit-tongue-position/
  12. BTW: I figured out why that happened... and know how to avoid it. thanks again.
  13. I think what you are saying is that the mind 'creates' because it holds an idea of past and therefore creates a future. There is thought, analysis, and projection/future. We need to have 'Perception, awareness, consciousness', then "When we allow ourselves to step into this place, we perceive everything as it is." Nicely said
  14. How to learn Chinese

My wife is chinese but I only seem to learn all the bad words/curses/phrases Immersion is best... live among the people, go to a school, etc... or find one in the US with chinese language. Here is the kicker: If you just learn it in the US you will learn proper chinese but not sure you will learn colloquial speaking.
  15. Interesting info... I am not sure which post(s) triggers the 'follow' but I do appreciate the feedback.

  19. ~~~ THREAD CLOSED FOR REVIEW OF MAJOR CLEANUP ~~~ This has gone so far off topic, which is fine in some situations but the hijacking of logical reasoning posts is getting quite bothersome. Re-Opened in Off-topic as a Split.
  20. Conducting poll

When you start a new topic, to the upper right is "Manage Topic Poll". I think you can hide individual responses or they will be shown how members voted by name.
  21. Get The Most Out Of Your MCO

Nice posts thanks Have you experienced non-breathing meditation? I had it happened to me a few times. It was like I fell asleep and stopped breathing for about a minute.
  22. Get The Most Out Of Your MCO

I would only say that a proper MCO has this natural interaction... but I don't know the details of your method but if you could explain more? To me, however naive: In normal abdominal breathing (NAB), everything moves in 3-D; if the stomach expands so does the HuiYin (outward movement)... I don't quite understand the idea of 'distracting'... can you say more? What do you mean by negate? not needed? IMO, Reverse Abdominal Breathing (RAB) has the stomach and huiyin still in concert: Both contract (perineum pushes upward)... maybe that is your LMP technique to disengage the two? Ok, so this is a small answer to my question but this is not my experience. If one views the stomach in 3-D and the huiyin as a natural extension which moves in unison... they simply will move together. Maybe your saying that for most this is not the case and I can accept that. Very cool
  23. John Chang

A few problems with what your saying but one example should serve: What did he actually say was silly? Carpenter moral: Measure twice, cut once [faithfully] Posting moral: Read twice, post once [faithfully] BTW: JMO... Kosta's book was an incredible account of a naive student with suspect writing skills. His personal/emotional experience seems to take precedence over simply observation. Does anyone even know that his subtitle of "Teachings of an Authentic Taoist Immortal" was not agreed to by JC? JC said he was not Daoist... So why did the subtitle persist? There is too much emotional investment in 'the story'. JMO
  24. I may be wrong and only Bindi can correct me... but I read her original point differently. I read it as she equates God=Cosmos=Source... you can pick a name/label... If one says: "There is no god when you reach the Source/Tao/Nirvana." This is just replacing her labels with another set of labels. If God=Cosmos=Source=Tao=Nirvana is a dualist concept of the mind, what is this a dichotomy with? What does '"God" is transcendent to mind mean'? That sounded a bit like Christianity transcendence but not sure the meaning? MInd can reach pure light... is pure light a part of dualism of the mind?
  25. The Father and Son of Taoist Philosophy

MH: A really brilliant dialogue method... Many thanks how you weave each other's thoughts and they then finish the others point
