  1. Enforcement will always be an THE issue. I reflected on what you said about the Women's Cultivation area and I was wondering it it wouldn't of been better (in hindsight) to leave it as a PPD... it would of been better controlled but I hoped visibility was an asset. I'm not sure anymore. I wonder if 'doable anarch' is destined to become yet another oxymoron... more below. That sounds like Lord of the Flies on TDB. Create a subforum where everyone is MOD and there is a free-for-all where you could end up deleting anyone else's posts in the end There is a board-wide 'mod' log... but that creates more work to monitor it... but yes, we can see what is going on. I've been a part of something similar at two sites: Failed: An anything-goes section. Any member could go in. We said there were 'no rules'... it was shut down in one week... I guess we opened the doors to Armageddon Worked: A password entry is needed. You also have to stand on one foot and touch your nose and recite as many sins you have committed in your life and predict how many more you will do... The password doesn't seem to work until this is done So it can work. In my mind, here would be the conditions: 1. It has to get approved by Sean 2. Maybe need a Grand Puba assigned to oversee things... I really don't want staff taxed with it 3. Define rules and reporting and how it is handled. I didn't really understand the concept at first and was at about 99% 'fuhgeddaboudit'... I can now see the point of it... and maybe am at the mid-point... which means if members want to continue then I'd need to do Step 1 above.
  2. Yea... this sounds like the PPD. I think I do get the difference... it is simply a general PPD. The technical problem is the OP having the reigns. This gets done in the PPD because each person becomes a 'mod' of that PPD (I know you probably know this but speaking out loud so others understand)... so they have control over every thread. This seems the closest method to get it. I would say that anyone who wants to do it, would have a sub-forum put in their PPD... maybe they are all the same name for identification. Then there is a general running thread with a post to a new topic in the persons PPD Sub-... the OP would have the reigns. The only other way is to create an entirely second set of PPDs and assign people each to an area they control... but it still isn't quite a single forum area idea. I would think another reason this works better in the PPD is that staff is generally not expected to monitor that as much as the PPD owner really controls it as they like.
  3. Pre-Heaven Qi, lost forever?

Energy is like a nanny.... not the mom, not the child, but it understands both sides... and acts as a passage gate of understanding. Energy is an realized outcome. A result of life. All species feel it within the realm of their local understanding but it can go beyond that... just depends on stuff. Energy is a gateway... the very first tinny step to... something... more...
  4. In Waysun Liao's Tai Chi Classics, he relates the same basic story but does not really say "he created the long form (108) and taught that". Waysun calls it the 'family style' (Yang style) vs the 'exercise style'. That Yang, "deliberately modified the Tai Chi meditation forms, converting them into a kind of slow-moving, outer exercise and complete ignoring the inner philosophy and mental discipline which is the key to Tai Chi".
  5. LDT method: hui yin <-> navel

I would think that anyone who has done the MCO w/ synchronized huiyin movement to the LDT was developing a similar connection... knowingly or not. There was a time when I was doing that quite a bit and I put most of my focus on that synchronization... I believe that kick-started a temporary kundalini (at the time I didn't know what to call it); and since then, my energetic awareness of my huiyin is rather strong. But I will say that I didn't really think so much about the exact connection as related here. I saw them as parts of a whole doing their part. It would be interesting to take it in the direction as the video suggests: Huiyin (negative) connection to the LDT (positive).
  6. How do I learn Chinese well?

There is more than one side to all of this... - personal motivation and drive - ability to learn it... tones, etc - access to learning, and quality of learning I know someone completely fluent in chinese and is a lawyer... yet his chinese in-laws chide him over his pronunciation To some natives... you're always a laowai My [chinese] wife says the key is to drill the tones... repeat in military manner the four tones of a word... rattle them off till you drop in the rain puddle below you and you reverently bow to her and thank her for another word to start with I can hear in my sleep the speed with which she rattles off a four tone word... and another... and another. Now... looking back at all this torture kindness I've had over the years... I would say without some form of immersion (and jiaozi to warm your mouth movements of saying four tone words over and over)... it is going to be difficult to learn. I've got several books which I think are really great... but any trip to china evokes more learning than months of reading.
  7. Do you have a blog or a website?

The pinned topic has a collection... but none are necessarily owned by TDB members... http://thedaobums.com/topic/31980-taoist-sites-blogs-and-links/
  8. One more stat which made me laugh... what is the highest rating given the most?
  9. That is a great example of the problem with it I actually never knew of it till this thread and I immediately felt it was troublesome. And as Thelerner rightly says, it is a heavily skewed result based on the very few who decide to use it... Of 4200 members, only 650 have any rating applied by others... and of those rated (650), 550 of them have only 1 or 2 ratings applied...
  10. Why not just have the dislike button and not hide behind a rating
  11. My added note says that I think it averages them... so the best you can get in the end... is ... average
  12. There was a precedent set by not having the "dislike" button... so this seems consistent to not need have this. As well, if five people touch it, you see the last one only... and no record or accumulation of anything. Added: It does appear to be a form of average rating.
  13. ...

Happy to see restoration on many levels
  14. Clarification and Apology

Threats on the board are not welcomed. You should step back a bit and consider what your trying to accomplish.
  15. Clarification and Apology

The operative word is 'deleted'... if they are truly gone, there is no threads to tied back to ones being exactly your posts. And it was mentioned that in the past, empty posts were deleted.
  16. question

The continual negativity and suggestive judgment seems enough. It does not belong to anyone is true... other than TDB. That's why it still exists. There was regard, but the regard goes much further than just a thread... but members are not privy to all the issues. Life goes on. Thread closed.
  17. question

You average two a day... so you get a platinum pass saying if your post disappears... you can guess where it is
  18. question

There are six pages of threads in the Abyss... almost 1100 posts... the oldest goes back to 2004. I'll put you on continuous detail until you reach every poster and explain every reason their post was removed let me know when your bags are backed and bring ramen noodles... I'll leave a microwave with you
  19. question

There is no face-saving aspect here. Folks request their threads get moved there... as Brian just shared in another thread.. .that is common... so putting it there 'now' would be no different than what others do. Others have had this exact issue but there was no problem. I'm just talking about the idea that someone 'owns' their post. I quoted a very specific comment. Rhetorical... ok. I understand that is how you see it.
  20. question

It would be a compromise... Except a PPD doesn't follow that guideline. Deci seemed to want to argue the same idea... I don't think that floats yes, but I empathize with a much bigger issue/problem which is private and which I cannot share. Such is the life of an Admin at times. So we will likely not find a middle ground but have our two perspectives.
  21. this is super cool I kind of hope we'll get a Lǎozǐ 老子 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laozi
  22. question

    why too late?
  23. question

Viruous resolution... interesting wording. would it of been better to have moved to Flo's PPF?
