He died at 23 ! He was incredibly insightful (and a prodigy) but his version has been shown to not agree completely with his notes... which means the distributed version is not so purely his. He was confucian... in the sense that a those who consolidated philosophies had a base philosophy...

Oh please... we have a serious problem in historical understanding

I'm going to give a cope-out response... although I have already responded I think it is similar to Deci's post that "there is no location". I am a big adherent to the Taiji Pole; Crown><Root... straight down the middle... 3 dan tians; 7 chakras. But this is just a physical location in the physical body... I'll ignore whether there is really anything physically to consider. As the "Supreme Commander", the Heart Rules. The spirit rest herein. But the various energy centers call upon the spirit, as do the organ energies, and the mind, and the physical exercise of the body. Which makes us consider not just Shen (Spirit) but Ling... and then Hun-Po. IMO: De is to Dao, as Ling is to Shen. Primordial Spirit is simply waiting to return...

Neidan: Refilling yuanjingqi, building the foundation
dawei replied to LaoZiDao's topic in Daoist Discussion
There are so many relative relationships; Spirit can be both Yin or Yang... as can the heart. The comparison is Xing and Ming I think another support for this is: Fulfilling Ming is “doing,” fulfilling Xing is “nondoing.” Liu Yiming, Cultivating the Tao Awakening to Reality maintains that the cultivation of Ming (Life) should precede the cultivation of Xing (Nature), and that “doing” (youwei) should precede “non-doing” (wuwei). MIng = doing = Yang Xing = non-doing = Yin -

Neidan: Refilling yuanjingqi, building the foundation

I think the point was that one has to gather true vitality and not let it 'spill'; the former rises to vital force and the latter cannot be gathered. This is Ming. If not done properly, Xing will not be fully achieved. -
Would you be surprised that the oldest cosmology, Tai Yi Sheng Shui, relates it as: Taiyi ShengShui: Great One → Water → Heaven and Earth → Spirit and Light → Yin Yang → Four Seasons The "initial conception" or what I prefer to call the "primordial illumination" (big bang) is extreme fire which 'hides' in a gas like water until space and matter form and align themselves. I don't think this is water we as physically known; it just as the first light is not as we physically know it. They are pre-celestial building blocks. I guess to be on topic... this is Daoist

I agree in the sense that there is an inseparability to Shen and Ling. Laozi said from DDJ39: The spirits (Shen) attained One and became divine (Ling). Others translate Ling as powerful as in efficacious. "Let us go back to the Beginning: Before the Beginning was the Tao. Let uscall the Tao zero, neither negative nor positive: pure potential (ling)." -- The Returned Spirit (Gui Ling) of Traditional Chinese Medicine By Lonny S. Jarrett But one still has to ask: Powerful/efficacious to do what? Before I mentioned the Shaman could intercede about something... due to their completeness (they possessed the power to do something). So it is about achieving a level or something? I would simply say it the fulfilling of one's destiny; this is not about physical immortality as much as spiritual fate. When one has obtained The[ir] original spirit, they have activated Ling (The[ir] original power). The power of completion. I know that some equate Yuan shen as synonymous with Dao to say: Dao is powerful but I don't mean this. To me, they all are a part of the original spark which illuminated into space/matter. I personally don't hold that practiced alchemy is the only way this occurs.. I've seen too many exceptions to know that there are many paths to this ascension. I think there are alchemic processes which some experience but we won't find it written in books.

I think it is more natural for these to emerge... and unnatural for them not to... so it seems to me that is part of the 'return' many speak about.

Some background on Ling but it may or may not help your journey. The ancient character is of a Shaman begging/calling down the rain. Although the shaman is often viewed as an intercessor between heaven and earth/man, the ancient rites spoke of in the oracle bones show it is due to their 'completeness'; unity with One/Center. Anciently, this One depicted the center of the cosmograph which itself is unmoved but all others rotate around. This was based on the view of the sky and particularly the pole star which was the 'center' (The Great One). Interestingly, Laozi in DDJ22 says to hold to the center and the line contains the cosmograph character as well... So there seems little double when combined with DDJ10 (embrace the One with your soul - Yutang), and DDJ39 (heaven obtained the One and became clear) that the One and Center are which we should unite ourselves. Early alchemy saw no difference between inner and outer; the distinction is much later. Ling to me is the soul aspect which arises with Dao along with our consciousness. We unite to One / Center / Dao through the guidance of Ling (inner soul-person with outer soul - Center).

"All CLAN AFFILIATIONS (not people) are treated like STRAW DOGS""
dawei replied to Harmonious Emptiness's topic in Daodejing
Reading a small part: he seems to present the problem as unity vs disunity; the ultimate problem as dualism. Heaven and Earth are often mentioned as united; Heaven and Man, not... so it is a problem in making distinctions. This is not a metaphysical issue but a practical, humanistic one; bad things happen in life. So I do find a connection to your opening line use of "do not distinguish between"- 54 replies

Senses... observer... IMO, this is mentally attached to the sense of observation. Fully aware: How? Through what means, observing? Inspired to respond based on what? observing? Observing is a sensory input... that you link this to whether you are required to respond or not is based on what? A mental decision?
-
Loss of [mental] awareness based on distinctions and the gain of energetic awareness based on the whole. What you probably can't really grasp is that it is a different kind of awareness which arises whereby your actually more in tune with the thing-behind-the-thing. As has been said in other threads: One can talk theoretically all day but until you actually develop it, it is meaningless on some level.

Think ripples in a pond... When the rock hits the water, the point of impact is the awareness of the water that something has connected; it responds with a localized action to absorb the rock but it propagates waves (expands). Sometimes our mind might see the ripples as separate concentric circles but in fact they are all part of the original awareness and connection. As part of that propagation, the further the ripples move the more they spread this energy outward. Ultimately, why is water responding this way? We have a local understanding of the physical world but ultimately, it is the energy in the system and the light which sparked the whole thing. These latter have propagated outward but we tend to do is simply explain everything in terms of the physical form and action we now see.
-
I would suggest that is the small, inner subset of the local mind being engaged with the environment. IMO, It is contained within the energy bubble and then that is within the light energy bubble. It is not quite Dante's seven storey mountain but there are levels/layers to fully integrate the Way of wu-wei.

My Medical Qigong master had a mantra: "allow".. which is saying the same as "all is permitted"... This is the Great Way... Anything less would put a fence around what is accomplished by the Great Way. When you choose to do on the physical level with lies, etc... is your local fence. Only need to ask: Who build the local fence
