  1. [TTC Study] Chapter 8 of the Tao Teh Ching

    I would move more towards the idea of 'harness'. In past discussions on Wu Wei, some have said this is about getting out of the way to let things go their own way... I have argued more for the idea that it is not getting out of they way, it is becoming ONE with anything... Be[come] the Water; Ride the Wave; Harness. Thus: The highest Good is like harnessing Water But in the sense of getting on a horse and riding it and be one unit... but I feel harnessing is not exactly my feeling/picture...
  2. Women & TTB

    Ironic you mention it... this thread caused me to start some discussion on the definition of anti-hate speeches
  3. If "God" exists, has he always created?

    I think this belongs in General if we're not talking really about Tao. IMO, Tao doesn't really create; it is the master blueprint in creation of things arise, evolve, create, return. Thus, it "shows up" in the beginning of things. IMO, Tao comes from ONE (Singularity, pre-manifest).
  4. [TTC Study] Chapter 8 of the Tao Teh Ching

    Very aptly put There is a causality we observe and most often we talk of Yin and Yang but in fact it is simply the natural, relative relationship like the vessel and its emptiness; the wheel spokes and the empty hub (DDJ11). Dao is an empty vessel... (DDJ4). This classic juxtaposition of contradictions, formless form, is what many love about Laozi.
  5. [TTC Study] Chapter 8 of the Tao Teh Ching

    My main thought was instead of "depends on" to be "is in its relationship to". The goodness of a home depends on the earth The goodness of a home is in its relationship to the earth There is an element of relative relationships.
  6. Help us help Buddhist Discussion

    A new sub-forum is created here: http://thetaobums.com/forum/391-buddist-textual-studies/ We will expect that posting is on-topic and respectful.
  7. Windows 8.1

    I can't imagine why anyone pays for the behemoth, service and memory devouring Nortons which I have heard so many complain about... when there are free ones like Avast, AVG, etc. Glad it's working... Pale Moon fanboy I am also a Chrome fanboy but it seems to run into issues once too many windows are open... so many processes running too.
  8. Help us help Buddhist Discussion

    Actually the current staff has to deal with it. That's why we started the thread. There will be changes as any forum / sub-forum is not an exclusive club of selective posters who determine how that area should be run, and how they run out others. ---- For all: 1. Any forum area should appear to welcome posters and not be the exclusive posting area of a few. There may well be only a few posting in certain sub-forums but it should be because they are interested to post, not because everyone else is run-off, put-off, and generally feeling ill by coming to it. 2. There will probably be some utilization of admin "broad discretion to protect the civility and resources of any aspect within TTBs e-community." See: TheTaoBums' Three Foundations: Eclectic, Egalitarian, Civil. An example might be used when a tone and style of posting is too restrictive of allowing others their opinion and is diminishing the free flow of dialog on the board, and/or contributing to a hostage or hostile environment. 3. Based on CT's thread Feedback please! Intention to initiate a group study on Buddhist Ethics. , I would like to create a sub-forum under Buddhist Discussion called "Buddhist Textual Studies", which is parallel to the "Taoist Textual Studies".
  9. Chat room

    Yes, the Junior Bum group did not have access to Chat. That is fixed now.
  10. Chat room

    Let me check the Junior Bum Group setting for Chat. It's probable that chat is not turned on till you have 15 posts and change to The Tao Bums group.
  11. Windows 8.1

    In ACP, it shows that we can upgrade to 3.4.6. I have been talking to Sean about this.
  12. Befriending Money

    Now I understand why the woman bashing thread started
  13. Help us help Buddhist Discussion

    The image is one of shoving something up your ass. The original post of the image which result in a few days suspension was hidden. After his return, he linked to it again. This was hidden as well. GIven the topic and hope for serious discussion on improving an area which continues to concern staff, the insensitivity to want to insult through gross pictures is not acceptable.
  14. Help us help Buddhist Discussion

    SJ is indefinitely suspended until we come up with a 'how long'... for posting a link to the same exact image he was suspended for before.
  15. Longmen pai retreats in the UK

    ~~~ Admin Message ~~~ Thread cleaned up (Pit). Let's stay on topic. ~~~ / Admin Out ~~~
  17. Likes Error
    I mentioned yesterday, that a user cannot like their own posts; ergo the like does not show to the user who posted... but everyone else can see it. So others can still like your post.
  18. Deep-Centers
    Ok, so I went back to read the OP Deep-center (new word to me) as used here implies to me the moment of neither/both; maybe I should just say Unity but it is momentary in movement exercises. A close friend in both Taiji and Qigong once said if he could do it all over, he would of followed Qigong as the methods and results are faster and more direct... but he followed the path of Taiji and slow movements. When I consider his remarks, I actually find myself drawn back to Taiji slow exercise movements... why? Because the core of all the exercises I learned are about the deep-center (as I understand the usage here). Their focus is on opening meridians and enhancing Qi flow ( energetic point of view). My personnel challenge with them has always been to tame the Qigong methods which come more naturally to me; to use them only to a point of enhancement instead of domination.
  19. Recognizing Reality
    This makes me think of, "Not-Two; Not-One".
  20. Recognizing Reality
    I often like Jesus word when he said, "I am in the world but not of the world". I personally never found that abstract coming from a manifested mouth.
  21. Likes Error
    I understand the explanation and interpretation of the rating system. My interpretation of the TTB spirit (as per Sean and others) is that 'dislikes' should not be public announcement for the gang-up clan.
  22. Recognizing Reality
    IMO... the ten thousand is a manifest idea... the arising... the living. Where does it originate? (ie: get outside of manifest, arising and living)
  23. Help us help Buddhist Discussion
    The two-edged sword to this issue is: 1. Who do we want to attract to post in the Buddhist sub-forum 2. Who are we scaring away if left as-is? Ultimately, TTB is a discussion forum, not a clique of warring schools or ideologies. If you can't even discuss without personal insults or posting rude pictures or being an elitist.. then TTB is just not the place for some members.
  24. Help us help Buddhist Discussion
    This is a reasonable issue to flesh out. School wars occur in Taoist Discussion for sure and get pitted and closed, etc. But the fact is that the other areas have more oversight and participation of the staff. It seems to be a historical preference to ignore the Buddhist drama and wait for a Report; and it seems that the Buddhist circle has gotten used to the crude slugfest of words and insults and we only get the really suspect posts. So in the Buddhist forum we are more like, wait-and-react to reports but in most of the other forums we are proactive. I generally disagree if it is just school/lineage insult but this would be fleshed out in our normal review process.
  25. Likes Error
    I am not really against the idea and think it is useful... but I think it would become abused in 'gang-up' dislikes. For that reason, I don't want to go there.
