  1. @Brian: You can do a search of "notification" in this thread to see there is a history of issues... in the way past, I see on upgrades there has been issues and then resolve when we identify the issue. BKA had one item to test but if members refuse to try it, then we can't know if that works or not. See if you find a pattern to the issue... maybe we need to know the last upgrade date... and just need to elevate this issue.
  2. What can feminism do for men?

    Maybe there should be a working definition of feminism... and what it is supposed to do for females... and for males... I don't think most people doubt equality ideas are important. But I am not sure that the answer to 1 million pushy, egoist males... is 1 million pushy, egoist females. That is not proper equality or balance... well, unless some think that is...
  3. A lot of questions

    This thread is about energy / neigong.... TCM does not understand these issues as fully as energy systems. This is where study in higher levels of alchemy, magic, and Medical Qigong are better understood.
  4. Which 'Neigong Forum' Banner Is Best...?

    The sunrise should be just breaking over his head... to show the 'light' which arises...
  5. FIFA World Cup 2014

    The top two teams of each group will advance. Ghana still needs to play Germany and Portugal... seems their bags are maybe already packed at this point. The US tie with Portugal is not a bad situation, except that they gave the game away by playing backyard soccer like children in the last minute. Chasing the ball which is called 'bumble bee ball'... pathetic history of US soccer. Because of Portugal's big goal differential, it may put them at a bigger disadvantage now; Germany really spanked Portugal and some think the Germans won't come out swing as hard against the US as they are likely to advance without trying too hard. The US should advance with a tie or win over Germany. A loss will likely make goal differential the difference.
  6. Would you allow people to meet up with the group and integrate with the group ? Meaning they would leave from somewhere other than UK to get to Shanghai.
  7. Did anyone try this and there is still no change? (no notifications)
  8. A member should not be getting email notifications unless they are signed up for them within their profile, or they had some action taken and when that is effected whether an email notice was marked as "send"... For the latter issue, Staff will have to remember to manual send an email to members.
  9. Hopefully you will see that your defining in very narrowly... and then if you define a number following that narrow definition then 10 may be true... for that definition. Neigong has been around for a long time and in various teachings. I posted a quick history in another post but one of the worst things we can do in regards to energy work is to see/set limitations on what it is and is not... it will always be much more than our minds can comprehend.
  10. Hello From the States!

    If you knew how much time, staff, resources, research, discussion, debate we spend on even one member. Usually it is not just potential, we have to be certain... but we make mistakes. And I am willing to own up to that and change an action if we find we are wrong.
  11. Hello From the States!

    FYI: Look at the member pic in the OP... this member is banned. Potential sock puppet.
  12. The Sage not acting for reward

    IMO, your scenario is fraught with incorrect ideas about the sage. You keep equating the sage with regular human ideas and outcomes and desires; and then a teacher. If we understand the sage as one who treats all people as straw dogs (as does heaven and earth), then we know he thinks to change people as much as he thinks to change the weather... An important chapter is 16: Empty the mind of everything, let it reside in peace. Being at peace you can watch the Ten Thousand Things rise and fall. They follow their natural path and eventually return to the source of all things. This is the way of Nature. Returning to the source is stillness, for Nature is unchanging. Knowing this constancy is having insight into all things. Not knowing this leads to disaster. Knowing the source, the mind is open. When the mind is open the heart will be open too. Being open hearted, you can act naturally. Acting naturally, you will be at one with the Dao. Being at one with the Dao, you will be at one with Heaven and Earth. Being at one with Heaven and Earth, you can become eternal. Although the body dies, the Dao will always be eternal. -FH Attain the utmost unoccupiedness. Maintain the utmost stillness, and do not interfere with all the things that rush together in activity and grow luxuriantly. Then you can see how living things flourish and renew themselves. Yet, they all must return to the root again, each to its simple source. Knowing to return to the root is to be refreshed. This is called subtle revitalization. To restore one's vitality is to constantly renew oneself. To know constant renewal is to have achieved clarity. If one does not know constant self renewal and thus acts foolishly, disaster will soon occur. Knowing constancy in renewing oneself, one can extend the duration of one's life. If one can deeply understand the extension of life's duration, one is able to contain all things within oneself. To be all-inclusive is to be impartial. To be impartial is to realize the positive, creative virtues of Heaven. To be Heavenly is to be one with the subtle essence of the universe. To be one with the subtle essence of the universe is to enjoy everlasting life. Such a one will be preserved, even after the dissolution of his physical body. -Ni
  13. A lot of questions

    ~~~ Admin notice ~~~ Thread cleaned up. Member warned about continued banter, troll, and challenging without caring to discuss. Last warning. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  14. A lot of questions
    There is a long history of alchemy and probably most may think of the later developments of Quanzhen or maybe the best known text Awakening to Reality. But in fact, it could be argued it starts back with Dao Yin practices on some level, and in the ancient Qi Inscription block, and in Heshang Gong, Baopuzi, early visualization as shown in The Central Scriptures of Laozi, Celestial Masters practices, etc. So it really depends on exactly want you want to discuss.
  15. A lot of questions
    Source: JAJ Medical Qigong Manual For example: Qi is congential or acquired. The former is often called preheaven, prenatal or congential. The latter is often called postheave, postnatal or acquired. But the word prenatal [qi] comes from 元[氣] And the word preheaven comes from 先天 some past threads for the OP: http://thetaobums.com/topic/6586-pre-heaven-jing/ http://thetaobums.com/topic/20263-how-much-do-we-undersatnd-the-microcosmic-orbit/ http://thetaobums.com/topic/22419-translating-questions-and-answers-on-the-golden-elixir/ http://thetaobums.com/topic/32451-where-is-the-concept-of-neidan-came-from/
  16. A lot of questions
    I know you think Medical Qigong is nonsense for children's belief but if you had any background you would at least know that your wrong to even suggest post heaven 先天(xian tian) is translated as postnatal. While it is true that post heaven and post natal are interchanged in meaning, they are two different chinese compound characters. You don't know what prenatal is in chinese energy... else you would of cleared that up. post heaven = 先天(xian tian)
  17. I understand this point but I do think SotG has a point too. A writer is still writing with his words and thoughts. I had a little problem with his incredulity at times, given his years of martial arts. But let's take one example which is on the cover of the book. It is sub-titled "Authentic Taoist Immortal". When Kosta asked JC if he was a Daoist, JC said, "NO".... yet the writer decided to sub-title the book against the words of JC. That is what writers do.
  18. The Ch'an Bums
    ~~~ ADMIN COMMENT ~~~ I want to comment on this issue as we are getting some concerns of such cut/paste. In general, I agree with the sentiment that cut/paste is not offering any discussion. But Pinned Threads are generally reference material and less discussion. I am going to say that such posts, within reasonable word limits are ok in pinned topics. In a regular topic, I would say there will be less tolerance by all at simply cut/paste without some discussion. ~~~ ADMIN OUT ~~~

  20. I don't really disagree that much with the idea that creating a 'western' prefix to a certain group is maybe imposing an unnecessary distinction... but nobody was talking about being "born into the Mo Pai clan". I read back through and am not sure why your harping on that idea as your making up that idea. GP only said "those accepted" and "adherents". So it seems it would be best not to dramatize too much another's words. The same argument is made about philosophical and religious daoism; a western distinction. And Kirkland wrote what was Taoism in the western imagination as it appears to not be what it means in the east. And is a person who reads Mantak Chia in a book any less 'practicing' than one who learned from a student of his or who learned from MC himself. The issue has nothing to do with being 'born into it'; it has to do with how are they claiming their practice is a "progression through the system"; who can really say the book is exactly the system in the proper and safe way? You can practice it but you may end up with hurting yourself or with cancer. The two biggest arguments I've heard at this site for such labeling is that the system is closed to the west; so there are no official teachers of it to the west. And the Indonesian adherence posted here that they wished people would not post on Mo Pai... I hear it in passing and do not know the links. I can certain agree to drop the 'westernizing' label but I don't really have a blind eye to the fact that not all practices of a system have the same proper foundation.
  21. Dantein

    Please start your own thread. that would be interesting.
  22. Are you 'following' the thread where you are not getting notification for quotes? I think there is a hierarchy of sorts... if your following then you get that notification and won't get the quote notification. You can test that by turning off the 'follow'. I see your username has notification for quotes turned on.
  23. I don't want to generalize too much myself but I think the point you are making is that energy practices like Mo Pai which are highly specialized and require a high degree of master oversight, could end up with energy and spirit imbalance. This is true of any energy/spiritual practice.
  24. You don't think you can just mix and match.... so why not discuss your point of view instead of claiming you don't want to get into it... Your trying to have your cake and eat it too. I would say: say what you want in terms of the topic, support your position and idea... or just stop posting to the thread. This is not the place to discuss why not to discuss. Because of these kinds of games by similar posters like you, it will not be tolerated. Stay on topic and discuss. Your free to speak your point of view on why you cannot just mix and match, etc.
  25. Meditation

    Member is gone. Stop just quoting previous posts. Leave it alone. You already have a thread on this... take it there.
