idiot_stimpy said in the lobby: http://thetaobums.com/topic/35040-hello-my-brothers-my-name-is-paul/?p=550766 I am glad to see such expression. We are talking about this issue among admin/tech/mod/steward... but I want to hear the members voice their opinion. Would the members like to discuss the future of Mo Pai topics and discussions next weekend in a non-public area of the board?

Practice Question: Any way to stop excessive sweating?
dawei replied to EFS White's topic in The Rabbit Hole
I was thinking this... I'd maybe try a detox diet for a week or so... see if you can get rid of as much as possible and then see how the body is. I personally have a high threshold for sweating which I assume attributes to years of sports; my pulse stays low... But if I drink hot (green) tea, I'll sweat like there is no tomorrow... So I've suspected the toxin angle is real for my body. -
I've been to China 13 times... and almost never saw a family have water delivered... the majority don't even have this luxury and won't spend a penny for it. Boil the tap water is good enough... and drink plenty of Bai Jiu to kill the leftover germs

dawei replied to mike 134's topic in General Discussion
Please look this guy up and go see him... it will be driving distance well spent to explore this option. He is with the JAJ program as well http://tao-house.com/ I know another option if you want to drive to Orlando but that will be 4-5 hours. -

Mo Pai sub forum? In the pit? Come vote; only 1% voted so far

The voting and comments are closed. Decision made and posted there. -
This poll is in Bums Town Hall which is a non-public area of TTB. This area cannot be searched by the public and requires a login to even be in this thread This topic is to vote and discuss the idea of a Mo Pai Discussion SUB-FORUM. I suspect there will be other areas the staff will consider but as this is one of the more contentious issues, I'd like to let members count their vote on just this topic. This vote is only about a dedicated sub-forum area not really about whether we allow Mo Pai discussion at all. TTB is expressedly without allegiance to any one system/school/lineage and as such there is no prohibition to discuss Mo Pai... but these discussions often result in issues which need to be dealt it. One solution might be to just have a dedicated, non-public area. We probably would not Pit the problem threads, they would likely just get closed. The vote is NOT public so your vote should remain anonymous. The total count should show. Added: I thought to do this, this coming weekend but we got this non-public area setup (Thanks BKA) and so I just felt to get on with it.

I appreciate the votes and comments. The seven pages are thoughtful and full of good ideas. I feel my primary goals were meet: What are the active members thoughts and was there enough to give me a feeling on what to do about a sub-forum. The decision right now is that there will NOT be a Mo Pai sub-forum. Which means that the topic is open for discussion anywhere. Right now, I see no reason to single out and contain certain topics if there is no sub-forum [container]. The various thoughts shared shows respect for the topic and in particular the system. And while I do respect that the Mo Pai system is closed to westerners, this is a discussion forum and discussion is to be open. The main implication is the problems it has caused in the past and whether we should restrict the location of such topics and whether they should be searchable. But for now, I will not try to contain it in sub-forum nor searching... of course that could change if we continue to have some problems but I don't want to yet show any bias for or against it. We are taking a neutral stand. The topic of Mo Pai is open, anywhere. Let's move on with the Bums Town Hall... The next vote starts monday. No teaser... except that is the teaser...

Interpretation of the Classic Title - ้ๅพท็ถ - Tao Te Ching
dawei replied to ChiDragon's topic in Daoist Textual Studies
Your stuck in a text...and stuck in linearity of the unfolding beginning. Don't compare that with the biggest picture of what is going on. I stated in another thread: "The Tao of Heaven is the same as the Tao of humanity". Three Directions of Unity: The Tao of Heaven is the same as the Tao of Earth is the same as the Tao of Humanity... -
At one time, TTB had 50,000 registered members. That seems like an award level until one realizes that we are now at 4,000 registered members That was not a typo... we are now at 4,000 registered members How can that be? The staff which handles the accounts realized several years ago that members were creating multiple accounts and banned members kept trying to come back... and it seems at a surprisingly repetitive rate. Thamosh was so many incarnations we lost count... it is only a surprise he was allowed here as long as he was here.

Ah... another keeper of all knowing truth... as learned from {insert justifiable nonsense here} and divine mission to discredit all other lineages and practices I should give you a sub-forum? Or PPF

~~~~ ADMIN ACTION ~~~~ Vacation: 2 Weeks ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ P.S. To members... I hope we can agree this is not about the topic, be it alchemy or Mo Pai... It is about posting behavior. This is the second suspension this week for wanting to duke it out in exhanges with staff just to further their posting behavior.
-
I don't think the task here is to be a self-claim expert-on-discrediting self-claimed masters. Move on in the topic. thanks.
I believe it was Heshang Gong who said: "There is heaven within heaven"... And one could say, in the beginning there was Tao within Tao... I think his main point, as he stated: The Tao of Heaven is the same as the Tao of humanity". You can view the pieces but it is still Tao (singulartiy) within Tao (multiplicity)
~~~ ADMIN NOTICE ~~~ You can't eat your cake and have it too. It is not about mods are unhappy that you post this subject in other topics but it becomes confrontative and trolling at times. You have a history of intentionally trying to discredit another member. That is what will not be tolerated; in another thread or this thread. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The subject matter is fine and the history and explanation of YOUR understanding of alchemy and YOUR particular pursuit is going to interest people. Trying to tell another their lineage is wrong because yours is right is exactly the Mo Pai discussion problems. The topic is fine. The posting behavior can cross the line. BTW: I like the topic as I know others do. Let's not simply use it as a vehicle to try and discredit another. You can certainly compare two lineages or practices and show their differences but it is almost crossing a line when you start telling another person they don't have transmission in a school just because you don't want to recognize it.

The reason why that surfaces as an idea: That a lot of the Mo Pai discussions end up in the Pit one way or another. Even the idea of a "controversial topics" as a place holder in Pit area has been mentioned. Personally, that is just doing the same thing with a different title. If we wanted such a topic, I think it is better near Off-Topic... but if the idea was that Mo Pai goes there, then we are already showing a bias towards the outcome of the thread. It is only our perception they are controversial here; Is it really controversial all over the internet? (not looking for an answer, it is more rhetorical). I have a rather strong opinion that Mo Pai, given no sub-forum, gets posted where where the member wants (staff can always decide a more appropriate location if needed) and most will probably lean towards the Taoist forum (even if Mo Pai is not Taoist) since that is where energy arts seem reasonable. At this point, a Dragonball sub-forum is more likely than a Mo Pai one The leading idea so far, and it was not in the vote thread but in the Martial Arts thread, is by Zanshin. I've asked Zanshin to forumulate the idea but if we could come up with something which *could* include mind/body/spirit/energy type discussions without explicit subforums for martial arts and Mo Pai or alchemy or yoga, that might be acceptable.

Various Posts from Flowing Hands. If you read this thread, you will get the most information possible on him. Taken From: http://thetaobums.com/topic/22407-the-dao-de-jhing-is-a-shamanistic-treatise/ The Dao De Jhing is a shamanistic treatise There is no one term nowadays to describe a Dao shaman like me. There are names that mean 'spirit writer', medium, etc. and it depends on the origin of the practice. For myself, I am like the original wu, who will dance the healing invocation to heal many people at once, as well as do the fa fu and fa shui. This category is mostly like the Chinese shamans of the past. The wu character depicts a woman dancing because women were the equal of men and that Dao is a feminine practice if one wants to divide these things up. A shaman or shamaness, is someone who firstly communicates with the spirits of the spirit world. The connection between living and non-living is indeed very close and the difference very small. All things share in the one, all things are fired by energy, all things are connected whether alive or dead. Shamanism is not a religion as such, though there may be seen religious ingredients within its practices. Dao shamans do not travel to the spirit world as such, the spirit comes to them. In Siberian practices the drum was used to aid the shaman to journey to the spirit world. Drugs may be used to help on this visionary journey. Of course many a shaman has been mistaken by his/her own mind as unlike the Dao shaman he/she does not properly know whether the spirit has been communicated with. The modern interest in shamanism is based on this. There are many people who take up the Siberian way and then use drugs and pretend that they have journeyed to the spirit world but in reality no such thing has happened. Plastic shamans is the modern label. Journeying the soul to the spirit world is a very high practice and not easily done. I have always practiced that the Immortal comes to me then there is never a mistake. There are no drugs, no altered states by means of drums or dancing. When you beg for the Immortal to come only a sincere heart will alert him to your call. He/she will come to you physically and move you powerfully. You will know when he/she has come. There are no mind games, no way to fool yourself and others. You can't just decide to become a shaman, you are chosen by the Immortal by them coming to you after a period of you showing them your sincere heart and faith. Anything else is plastic shamanism. These practices have been taken and organised into religion. Religion has really nothing to do with shamanism. Temple Taoism, which may have a shaman or medium present, is very different to lay shamanism which is the true art. Women in Tao shamanism are viewed equally as men there is no difference, and the word for shaman comes from a woman dancing with feathers; a ritual of shamans that is used to heal groups of people together. In ancient times the shaman/shamaness were the head of the village. Ritual dance and prayers were important for the well being of the people the land and all life around them. They would consult the shaman for many things. The shaman would consult the spirits that lived in the local area. It was a dangerous job for a shaman in those days. When particular shamans became powerful with 'divine' energy and they died, people got to beleive in their spirits. Some shamans became Immortal, their energy lives living forever. So nowadays we have many gods who people beleive in and shamans don't have to open themselves up to any spirit that would come along. Now religion is human made it is more to do with the politics of altering human behavior on mass. Of making the beauty of human life in to a sin, to knock out the beauty of acting naturally and turning things that are natural to be wrong and dirty. To divide people so that they hate each other so much that they will kill someone from another religion. Shamanism connects all people, all life and all spirit. Religion does not. 'Tradition' meaning it has a long lineage stretching back thousands of years. The head of the lineage is the Immortal master who trains shamans to various stages of skill and knowledge. The spark is given by the Immortal master, although I can transmit and give power and teachings to another person it doesn't mean that they will be automatically taught by any spirit or Immortal master. It is the Immortal master who decides who he or she will teach.

I was wondering about that myself... but as an example: There are 125 people viewing right now.... and as it is in a non-public area, BKA has the smarts to post something in the public area to alert viewers... But it has not increased the voting... so that means the lurkers only lurk (?) And the active people truly come to have a look and chat... -
Someone PM'ed me this same issue... maybe the 'vote' has generated more thinking Maybe Town Hall has another thread coming... but I will wait till the vote is over as I want it to stay at the top of the Hall...
