~~~ MOD WARNING ~~~ If there is a continuation of belittling, insulting or rubbing some issue in someone's nose continues, some mod action may be taken. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ --- That was explained as only temporary halt to posting to allow mods to figure out the issue... I could do that now so other mods can decide on any possible action or not. I will choose not to for now, but any continuation of treating others with this kind of talk may result in something more. Thanks for taking this into consideration as you continue.
Maybe we should do a poll for where to send it...
Is taoism about self-promotion? I suspect that the examples you seek are already outside the questioning of such 'newbie want-to-know' questions. One can claim it is about self-understanding or self-knowing... I suspect it is more about Tao-Zen smiling at the wind blowing... The wind wanting to know if the wind is felt by others....
Yes... you missed something then. Whenever a newbie comes onto TTB and proclaims certain things; we take notice whether there is something more than a newbie which by happenstance seems to know the person in question, and confronts more than one member, plus a mod. That is not typical of newbie's. Unless they have an agenda. Do you now understand? This thread was left for a while but has worn out its use.. Thread Closed. Edit last line. I did not mean to imply the OP or TG had some hand in starting the thread.
This is in Off Topic, so the range of discussion is not really limited. If someone wants to explore a newer or different angle, they can open a new thread... but not required. Great topic and great discussion... Carry on !!
Allow Northern Avid Judo Ant to Return
dawei replied to SonOfTheGods's topic in Forum and Tech Support
I think there are not many times when someone tries to help others, but when they do they simply find there is no help they can provide and instead they are getting pulled into a dark corner of the other member. I don't know NAJA, and I don't want to continue discussion on her here... but I know Songtsan practically began to stalk and post about you and for that reason we took quick action after a few occurrences. I will say that sometimes these people have their own issues going on and deep down they are good people who are lost/seeking/mixed up, etc. Such is life. We all play some part in seeing where we can help and when we realize we cannot, then we cut the rope and move on. Your concerns are noted and appreciated. Bringing back banned members is not usually done without much discussion, some sighing hesitation and a little faith in the person. I know of one member recently brought back from banned status and the reasons for the original banned status showed up rather strongly again... and again... and again. After a quick chat with the member, I was glad to see this settled down and I have faith it was the right decision. Not all our decisions will be right but they are thoughtful and consider the person; that includes bringing them back and banning them, and everything in-between. --- I would like to close this thread as the original purpose has been noted, with some agreement and disagreement. The mods have seen it and appreciate those concerned about other members. Your open and honest opinions are all noted. We will discussion the issue below the Pit... in the dungeon... I'll ask BKA to bring cookies and coffee. -
Sometimes it is a matter of how and where we channel our energy. I am glad to hear she can focus on her practice. -
Difference between Qigong and Neigong?
dawei replied to JustARandomPanda's topic in Daoist Discussion
This is the second time I have seen you mention "no flame wars"... which is already throwing kindling on a fire you started... How about this: As a new member with no history of members here and topics here... let's just avoid the John Chang and Mo Pai references till you have something specific to share in terms of experience. Your repeated reference has the attention of a mod or two, and I don't think a newbie usually intends that.. unless they do. -
Seems as someone new to the forum, you know a lot about TG and are quite comfortable to confront a longer standing member who has exchanged over the years on the topics mentioned. What MO said is quite easy to understand. He stated his opinion and while one item was maybe not correct, the rest of his opinion seems (to him) to be supported by the recent action to ban TG. is there anything you want to tell us?
I am not 100% sure as this was something done in the past... but based on this thread, she asked for her account to be closed. http://thetaobums.com/topic/31431-over-a-coffee-pot/ One issue we have discussed in the mod forum is that historically this is handled by 'banning' the member as there is no 'close' option. The problem is that 'banned' means something specific and 'closed' is not one which most would guess. We have talked that we should really track the reason for the 'banned' status. -
Yes, I assumed it was tongue in cheek (or rather down lower) at those making fun of the wire... It seemed consistent with his dark sense of humor.
Thanks for sharing these verses. This caught my eye... references to the ancient masters (before Li Erh) and "this vs that" which is reminiscent of Zhuang Zi (after Li Erh). His message seems to be the summation of thought which transcend time on some level. And parallel to becoming one with Dao (which is beyond before-this-, and after-that).
I received a rather strong objection to his avatar but I explained how I viewed it given his discussion about 'wiring the perineum'. I might of been wrong in my interpretation but at least I backed him up on his use of the avatar. Something he never knew, BTW.
Being a subforum, there should be more respect for serious posts. The side-tracking posts can be split out if requested.
If there is a response, it will be in an understood language. That is the way of Xian Ren response to such begging.
How do you surrender yourself to whatever your doing?
dawei replied to TheExaltedRonin's topic in Daoist Discussion
This was what I was going to say The concept would reveal there is separation where there is really none except in our head... but that is enough to hold us back. -
Good point . On some level... I was following you and not Sima Qian --- Shall we move on
-
I agree... that is why I have argued NO KINGDOM means NO KING... just an EMPIRE, so an Emperor. Although it goes through periods of disunity, I think the internal evidence that he took an imperial name and was post humous name referred to as Emperor Gao is enough to show the continued use as Emperor: Gao Huangdi (高皇帝; lit. "Emperor Gao") "Sima Qian referred to Liu Bang as "Gaozu", meaning "high ancestor" in the Records of the Grand Historian. It is not clear why Sima Qian used "Gaozu" instead of "Taizu". Historians after Sima Qian often used "Emperor Gaozu of Han" to refer to Liu Bang. "Emperor Gaozu of Han" remains the most commonly used title to refer to Liu Bang in modern China." I think we probably agree more than not and it is interesting to discuss these nuisance. Liu Bang was a peasant rebel turned emperor...
Emperor is ruler of an Empire; King is ruler of a kingdom... part of an Empire. This is seen in Chinese history and later dynasties seem to use Emperor, IMO.
-
I did not mean one gets China out of Zhong Guo. I mean the origin of Zhong Guo is more interesting than the origin of China. But I'll not sidetrack further as that all predates the timeline.
-
I would tend to call him the first Emperor [of the united land]. "King" was used long before the Qin. I think more interesting than the origin of China is the origin "Zhong Guo" Maybe another thread
What are daoists supposed to do with thoughts according to Lao Tzu?
dawei replied to TheExaltedRonin's topic in General Discussion
It seems you are asking what should you 'do' or 'think' ? Just be one with yourself... which is to say don't try: 37 The subtle essence of the universe is always unoccupied, yet it leaves nothing undone. If the people of the world were wise enough to plant the root of their lives deep within the Subtle Origin, then the worldly affairs of life would coherently follow their own natural course, and harmony would abound of its own accord. When confusion takes place in one's surroundings, it can be dissolved with the power of undisturbable Simplicity. When life is ruled by undisturbable Simplicity, desire and passion naturally fall away and reveal people's true, original nature. Then the peaceful order of the universe prevails and unity manifests again of its own accord. -- Ni
