  1. Is Fascism Left or Right

funny that those of us who support Trump's policies are seeming leftist... we are the deplorable ones after all.... and those on the far left want to attack us for being on the left ? yep deplorable in the ends. So deplorable....
  2. Financial tips for the bums

I don't follow the dividend angle. So how did they fair today ? I'm into day trading but investing in retail leading up to Black Friday. I was following PG&E this last week and I missed their moment today... went up almost 40%. I had tagged Viab to watch... but forgot... up almost 4% today. Missed it. Day trading is exhausting. Still don't recommend it.
  3. What is the Taoist religion?

I wrote elsewhere about Taoism seems to me to be this path: Primitive Naturalism > Divining and Mythology > Shamanism/Spiritualism > Political Philosophy > Alchemy > Religion > Dark Philosophy > Modern Philosophy I find Flowing Hands to be a Daoism Shaman. His is not religious as much as he is a shaman spirit. Why did alchemy arise? Folks lost the old arts. He has the old arts, is my point.
  4. What is the Taoist religion?

    That's Confucianism... well, Zhou Rites....
  5. Is Fascism Left or Right

but you sound so right on issues... seems you are left and reaching for the bottom
  6. Is Fascism Left or Right

Ok, did this one: https://www.politicalcompass.org I am economic and social just barely, slightly left of center. Vertical of Authoritarian vs Libertarian I am dead central... So I have previously said I am neutral... who would of guessed this result They ask some stupid questions and no neutral answers allowed... So I see a problem with it
  7. Is Fascism Left or Right

I went back to re-read myself. I think in today's world, it is difficult to mention a color and not have someone say it is racist. I think in the past, you could mention it as an opinion or citing a fact but today, if you mention color, you are suddenly invoking racism on some level. I completely disagree with the latter idea as it suppresses some form of free speech but that is the trend. I personally don't think Pilgrim crossed the line but one particular line (I won't cite) was close, but we have to try and see the point being made without citing racism so fast. I will say that pushing back like you did is equally valid; it gives us an understanding of how you feel the expression... which is to say, both sides were a valid expression , IMO. Thanks for being metered in your responses given your feeling.... a TDB friend
  8. Is Fascism Left or Right

So how to replace it ? The circle still has opposite sides. Your input has been really interesting to read.
  9. I tend to agree here. First focuses on life; latter focus on pre-life.
  10. God as Self, Atman

Sorry to come to this thread late... but who is this God who is exploring ? Have you meet him or visited him?
  11. Financial tips for the bums

So all retailers dropped... Macy's , JCP, Walmart, Dillards, Kohls, ... despite most had higher earnings reports... so why ? Ahead of black friday, there is apprehension about revenue outcomes... or a market game to get prices to drop... Best Buy is up.
  12. Financial tips for the bums

Also look at VSI... or BZH... we bought before they surged... even the dow was down ! Got hundreds of dollars.. It is all a game.
  13. Financial tips for the bums

Just look at Kodak... crazy fall over the years... but when to jump in ? About three weeks ago. RYB crash 53% down... but we made money on it by buying when we felt it would rebound today. It's not an easy game to play.
  14. Financial tips for the bums

At times. Depends on the strategy. You want to get in and out fast, or ride it out? Sometimes, cut your small lose to find another big gain ! I prefer more day trading style but you have to spend a lot of time to research the earnings reports game. I'm following that idea so far. Based on your questions, you realize the use of the items you mention. Stop Loss/Limit Order: so you set a price if it drops below that amount you want to sell? It depends on how you view the investment. Do you want a year or 5 years wait, or just a few days? But in short times, if we think averaging down is good because the stock will go up, we'll do we.. We missed it big time with JCP, who was stating their earnings today... They Dropped to $1.05 and we should of jumped on it... lesson learned. Our goal is $100 a day. So we look for how to make that happen. I will jump in and out when I realize I made a mistake to find another will jump. My wife is more calculating and rarely loses but is much slower. I'm learning from her but she is learning the US stock market movement. In terms of earnings reports, the before and after market reports are very telling. Retail is taking a huge hit in the market despite good reports. Next week is black friday and that will turn around.
  15. Financial tips for the bums

It is a mixed bagged result, so far. I don't look at cryto. Here is my current way. Research the earnings reports that will come out. Some BMO (before market) and AMO (after market). If you do day trading, I'm now looking at AMO because one can sell the next day easily at any time... on Robinhood. That is a free trading software. I'm still feeling my way through the data points and when up means up or means down. The challenge is, when is it really up or down for the stock price? I guessed a few times really good, as did my wife... I miss communicated to her because of our different views.
  16. Taoism: What's the goal?

To release oneself seems to imply one has realized they have a wrong understanding or path.. not sure here. No Goal: Simply reside ... but the mind will think more.
  17. Financial tips for the bums

Ok, so I see the turn went to the stock market... my wife has played the chinese stock market for 20 years.. and was hesitant to do the US market... so we are doing it together.. I know data. And I did mutual funds before. So Our approach is, I find the hot stock of the next day, she researches it (on chinese software as it is much better)... then she decides. I'm more flamboyant, risky, and stupid. Across two days, the Dow went down 700, but we made $300... next day we lost $200 cuz we jumped into a few stocks with earnings reports a few days away. Lesson learned, bad idea... I am re-focusing now. Retail, Macy's, JC Pennys, Dillard, Williams-Sonoma, Vitamin SHoppe, etc... all this week came out... It was a mixed reaction from the market. I learned alot from prediction as great news doesn't mean a great stock reaction. We adjusted today and got back all our money to be at $400. It is a very challenging thing to try but here is what we are doing. Ignore the DOW... that is the major players. Find the small players who report earnings and dividend reports. My wife still likes chinese stocks in the US markets. She jumps in and out... She said to me today, I always sell at a profit. Today is no different. But Macy's is killing us... so need to ride it out to black friday. They reported higher earnings and good numbers but they tanked in the market. We're basically doing day trading. I keep seeing some initial impulses I find jump but I'm too late to get it it. So need to continue to read them each day. The problem is, it takes too much time on some level. I really don't recommend it.
  18. The Brexit Thread

While there is a lot of talk on how folks like tradition or practice diversity on the site, I have really liked the geographic diversity and hearing about the EU or Brexit or asian countries has been a great, free history and current events lesson. Its good to hear voices from across the pond Thanks for this.
  19. Defining the Left and Right

wasn't sure where to put this so settled on here. So to disagree with something on the right: https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/fox-news-made-fun-alexandria-164400155.html I don't agree with her socialist stance and not sure it is good for the left or if embraced pushes them more to the left... but the diversity of those elected brings new ideas which is good. She is the youngest to be elected and that she is kind of in a bind over getting an apartment in DC is a real, tangible issue for her. Fox should, instead of mocking her, offer to help her. What is truly so hard about reaching across the isle...
  20. US Constitution 101

Yes, well done ! I'm glad it is here. I can go back and re-read as I skipped parts as I was not able to keep up with your speed of posting Maybe this is a seed for such informative threads The interim AG comments were very helpful. Great stuff.
  21. The Spirit of the Dao Bums

I'll give a few comments... likely turns out more than a few: 1. It is not that the majority of the posts are this or that but what is the majority of the membership... there are only about 5-10 who even post in O-G. If it was closed down, then all such threads would move to The Rabbit Hole as that was what we had before, a single sub-forum where it all went. 2. I decide to go out to eat and I have 100 restaurants to choose from. There is one I really don't like so I go in there and demand they shut down as they give off an obnoxious, offending taste to me and so the rest of the community must feel that way too. 3. Or, I know I don't like that restaurant but see folks in there anyways and they seem to enjoy it, I just don't. So I go eat where I like. 4. I used to really hate Yahoo mail, their developers, software, and features seemed awful and tiresome to use. I could envision a bunch of devils sitting around trying to code a useless and awful piece of online mail. I can't say exactly when, but that all seemed to go away at some point by itself. I still use Yahoo mail. 5. My chinese wife likes to feed me a piece of food or wipe my mouth, or clean my ears or cut my toe nails. I absolutely was feeling my personal space was being invaded and I pulled back at every turn. She explained in her culture, these were displays of love. Now I let her invade my space as much as she wants and I found a huge barrier drop; a kind of cosmic expansion of my being felt released. Like after a cold, you can breath easier. 6. In my current practices, it has to do with the same idea as #5, interacting with the space around us, including people, deities, dimensions, beings, etc... One bit of advice I got was, the more it bothers you it is that interaction trying to breakup and fix what it is that bothers you. I have had my limits at times, usually more with people than deities or beings. So I have realized I need to keep going with the people stuff and keep releasing barriers. Then any action I take is based more on an inner sense than an outer perceived obstacle. 7. I like all weather, whether the sun, rain or snow. When young, the snow is a thrill. But now, I choose to get out of the north and now live in the south where there is more sun than snow. 8. I really dislike killing even an ant till red ants descended on me one day in this beautiful south and bite me many times. I don't think I'll get past letting them crawl up me to bite me. I still have some limits on my personal space.
  22. Democracy

Wonder how the safest places to live in the world correspond to eroding freedoms or being in the democracy index (I know, I could look that up with the link).
  23. Democracy

At least we're not under British rule anymore as we were the first Brexit ! I get your points and Thelener's that in the end, a person tends to judge with how much their own, personal life is affected. My chinese wife had no problems living in such a suppressive culture as she understood what you can and cannot do. When I would say, 'but you can't do this or that'... she would say, 'so I won't do this or that, I'll do what I can'. But the encroachment on freedom in the US seems inevitable both by internal (politics, media, entertainment, cultural issues like PC, etc) and external (we're a target, hated by some, immigration, etc) influences. Box these all up, wrap them in a bow and you get the US of Orwellian proportions. The march of time is unfurling things we never thought 50-100 years ago. Just think the computer or smart phone and how technology is a culprit to less freedom. I can't even do something without someone want to have 'access to my location' and someone proved that even when the phone is off, the location is still accessible. Media, tech, and entertainment are incredibly influential in a way they never were before. It seems inevitable and what happens is regulations step in to control things but ultimately it is still another cut in freedoms.
  24. Is Liberalism Dead?

I think it has taken a few turns... as Larry King said, an ex-CNN host said, "CNN stopped doing news a long time ago, they do Trump" King criticized CNN for carrying Trump “more than Fox News” Maybe it is like a snake that slithers to where it can go and find something to eat...
  25. Albert Camus Quotes

I have this two part audio cassette where three of Camus's works are lectured on... I've listened to it more than once only because I can't recall all the richness of the lectures ! It has been remarked that Camus would certainly reject the title of an existentialist... well... and Jesus a christian... so let's forget about whether labels truly fit or not In Camus's the Stranger: "The benign indifferent of the universe"... is he talking about existentalism or Dao
