  1. [DDJ Meaning] Chapter 65

That is a western mindset. Ask a chinese the meaning
  2. [DDJ Meaning] Chapter 64

The simplicity of this transmission seems to say it all. 1. Know the ways of nature 2. Hearts are simple 3. Trouble overcome 4. All things are due to something 5. Know this, and avoid trouble 6. As a Sage be free from desire 7. No discrimination nor distinction 8. Be completely open and yield to the even beyond the universe of thought 9. Help others but be unmoved 10. Observe life as it is and respect it
  3. [DDJ Meaning] Chapter 63

Virtue is generally the wrong word as it is more Confucian. De is the 'virtue' of Dao... do we assign integrity or kindness or caring or understanding to Dao ?
  4. [DDJ Meaning] Chapter 61

I found this a very interesting point as I hold it too ! LOL Male / Female tends to be used because it is the most accessible and understandable meaning, even if it is not exactly the meaning. In energy speak terms, it is about male/transmission vs female/reception. In real life, there can be a bevy of meanings.
  5. Yutang Lin

I have his commentary and while I don't always agree, his contribution is worth the book. Like books by Chan or Hendricks... you don't have to agree with their translations but their notes are worth it.
  6. Yutang Lin

No Lin Yutang thread should go without this great tool: http://humanum.arts.cuhk.edu.hk/Lexis/Lindict/
  7. [DDJ Meaning] Chapter 62

    Eno for thought: http://www.indiana.edu/~p374/Daodejing.pdf
  8. The Dao De Jing: A Qigong Interpretation?

I'll share a story in regards to YJM. He is a prolific author and practitioner... I was studying under a medical qigong master who meet him once. My master's 'push hands' expertise was in single hand only. Also, he participated in no rules fighting in asian, so was also doing martial arts. He was foreboding at about 6'2". He projected Qi while fighting. He controlled another's Qi when doing push hands. He meet YJM and offered to do push hands demonstration in front of YJM students. YJM declined the offer. Sometimes humility is the highest order of cultivation.
  9. The Dao De Jing: A Qigong Interpretation?

His books catapulted me into Qigong. I have several. In his Embryonic Breathing, he translated some of the DDJ, so glad to see a full treatment from his life long perspective. But he is a practitioner not a spiritualist. He is an engineer by training Nice thread on an interesting new book, thank you !
  10. I have created a first option and link within the Activity Menu to jump to this thread. Thank you Karen ! And Brian was an early one to talk about customizing this, so remote thanks sent his way too
  11. The Dao Trumps

Yes, I'm asking for exclusion of OG only at this point.
  12. The Dao Trumps

That was nicely stated, thanks. I'll reach out to Sean to see what can be done.
  13. The Dao Trumps

OK, so someone I know rather well wrote me to disagree with this because they use the activity and post options and find it filled with O-G content as a major distraction. For the record, I have never used these features as I just go to forums/sub-forums of my choosing. But the members, even newbies may use it. I think the only solutions is an all or nothing thing: I can ask Sean to not allow any O-G (or maybe any private forum) to show up there. Not sure of the level of effort to do that. So, the question is, what Trumps here... do you want to see new content, even if a tsunami of posts from one thread or not ?
  14. Central channel or Heart Field?

If it has infinite access ? Otherwise, it is being in a mindset or astral sense with boundaries in the end... but such boundaries may not even been known or understood.
  15. The Dao Trumps

I agree on Vmarco... and Deci ... I'd welcome back.. to try again here. I was contacted by a TDB friend who related the issue on O-G is that the activity and post views dominate the list. I don't use these but seems others do. My only option would be to ask Sean to not allow any O-G to go there, as individual prohibition would be too much customization.
  16. The Dao Trumps

It was already shared that this thread is a Split from another discussion... So the OP is actually me ! So yes, I'm opening some doors but one has to decide whether they step through or not
  17. The Dao Trumps

There is an 'opportunity cost' but that in and of itself is a 'time management issue' and at some point a 'cultivation test'. I've meet and been able to talk quite a bit with other members here in O-G that I don't think would of otherwise happened... I've gotten to know their views and opinions and how strong how life issues mean to them. This doesn't sound so much like 'spirituality' but IMO, it has tell tale signs. Well, if you raise something in the staff area, we're forced to listen at least Re: To keep the spirit of the conversation in line... To a small degree... IMO, if a nudge helps, it may be worth doing. If a thank you helps, it may be worth doing. But less is best in most cases. Folks bear responsibility for their posts. And that is why some diversity on staff is helpful
  18. Central channel or Heart Field?

Nice topic. I've not heard the term 'heart field' but it is interesting to ponder its usage here. One should remember that usually the reference to Daoist Nei Gong is already containing non-daoist items when Buddhist influence came into play. When I did Medical Qigong, they were very open to state it is a mix bag of Daoist tradition and modern practices, meditations, mco, chakras, etc. The central channel was very important in terms of unifying; the heart, along with all the organs was very important in terms of strengthening their roles. The is traditionally called the "General" who directs all the functions. In that sense, the heart is 'in control' when one is relying on the heart[mind]. I think that it may be possible that traditional Daoist practices didn't focus on the heart field because it is something that builds and grows and strengthens by doing practices like the MCO and/or central channel. But this is why I like and recommend Mantak Chia's inner smile which places focus on each organ with a 'smile'... the source of that smile is the 'heart', IMO. I generally agree but on your comment that the Heart Field is not the MDT... is that from the book ? Might be good to share why you have this thought so we can understand the definition of this.
  19. The Dao Trumps

Some background. The Pit (the name was that way so long, folks still like to use it) does not allow starting threads, although at one time it did. Then a long ago team decided that it should be more of a dumping ground of the worst threads but we try not to lock them unless they are really over the top... those that are way, way over the top go to sub-forum that only staff has access to. So in theory, the Pit/Chaos is not expected to really be a high discussion area but where threads naturally die [of discussion]. Off-Grid is not public but only viewed by signed in members. I don't see anything turning the forum away from the main focus of Taoism and Spirituality.
  20. Beginner questions

yang arising... but please do not include a child in the equation.
  21. Where do negative thoughts come from.

curious topic. Positive and Negative arise with duality. One might want to know if the early humanoids disguised it, likely not; Just woke up, find some food, take a rest, think about the next kill... go to sleep... repeat. More mechanically.. or rotational like the heavens above. Fuxi was said to look above and below and see their connection... but... Then, focus shifted to earth below... Negativity, IMO, is a judgement about an occurrence, event, or outcome. So is positive thoughts. I'd challenge folks to try something for a few weeks: Look above, what does your heart feel ? Look below, what does your heart feel ?
  22. My impression is that usages like Daoism or Daoist are from two chinese characters and not just 'Dao'. For example: Dao zhe 道者 - Dao - One Who is [ist] and related (lots of discussion on TDB on this): Daojia 道家 - Dao - Family: Those thinkers who studied the Dao and the text they wrote Daojiao 道教 - Dao - Teachings: - The study of Dao
  23. Decoding Dao?

Yes, found that a long time ago... and overall quite good... but some comments in the very opening paragraph I'm not sure I agree with.
  24. [DDJ Meaning] Chapter 59

weird... I randomly checked some of your other thread starters and one was blank... without any 'edit' text which would show to staff. Let's blame Russia or Trump.... flip a coin
  25. [DDJ Meaning] Chapter 59

This series is about extracting the meaning, but not through so much discussion. You can look at the past series for discussion. State the meaning as you see it. If there is doubt as to understanding, that is still a previous series. This series is more about a surety about an understanding.
