First, this is not a public forum but privately owned and run. Second, we could just close the thread and let zen-bear open a new one but the longevity of its following and purpose makes it seemingly better to keep one thread instead of two. If zen-bear wanted to start a new one, it would be no different than what we did. The PPD has been around a long time so there is nothing new with its use. It is a good environment for someone to control content and there is some discussion going on about 'clubs' would likely be somewhat similar.

I think that is a fair point but I think MH may be talking more in regards to trade and tariffs. Trump seems to want to balance that aspect but I would agree one cannot view that without also the trade surplus/deficit aspect.

I never stated political philosophy but agree with how you end that sentence for the most part. Sure, you included spiritual belief systems and I think that is good. Consider whether you sometimes mistake a 'trump supporter' with someone who just doesn't have an issue with Trump... there is propaganda on both sides, so that argument seems not well taken to me. Words matter when one takes them as needing to matter. What if one doesn't need words to matter so much?

Interesting points but missing a major point: Someone can seemingly follow Dao and not be a Daoist. To say what people should or should not be doing is no longer Dao talking but a personal voice, maybe even Confucianism. This subtle point may be why folks can't accept Trump, suddenly as he has not changed in 50 years... it is more what they think he should or should not do... this is a personal opinion and not really about Trump on some level. I wonder, what should Dao own up to ? Seems it is only the minions asking this about the minions...

my chinese wife bust enough of my balls and it is rather personal on a daily basis... She extols the work of Mao, D.Xiaoping and X.Jinping. I wish she would join this conversation for a chinese point of view. For now, my 15 years of travel to china will have to do a circle jerk on the topic

That's an interesting point for sure... I'm type O blood... and very much liked the Blood Type diet book that emphasized for me, protein; very true for me. But as life goes on, I just want to eat less and less of anything... but I'm also fighting body issues of injuries... so my case is not likely normal. I used to really question God on the singular basis that we need to eat and consume anything... Now that God is out of the picture, I just consume less. That's just me.

It is not that PPDs become public but the idea is a kind of pseudo PPD that happens to be public; public with a leader with elevated permissions. I think "clubs" does this in a way but even this creates a 'leader' of the club , ergo a hierarchy in a sense. I think the current PPDs serve a great, private purpose and hope folks continue to use them as they see fit.

BTW: There is a feature called "Clubs" which may basically do what you suggest. We thought to open one to test its usefulness. The only draw back I see is if we decide it is not worth keeping around, anything in the clubs would be lost (deleted).

Yes, that is the downside to the PPD area, guests won't see the updates... I wonder if you set notifications to it, will you at least get them? For now, the disruption in that long standing thread seemed best to let someone control it. Zen-bear has agreed to do so in a PPD for now. Your alternate solution is an interesting one, like a public PPD. I'd be open to hear what others thought of this general idea but the PPD does it expect for visibility issues.

While we are a trade surplus with Canada and trade deficient with China they are related because Trump is also focusing on the tax/tariff issue. i just heard somewhere that German car companies were actually espousing the Trump idea of no tariffs ! But China is a tough read to the west for simple reasons like we make plans for 5 years out and they make plans for 50 years out. And yet their form of communism is predictable and their goals are not far-fetched in the way ours are. Their form of progress has a lot longer time to go than ours but they are usually playing the long game.
