  1. Yin Yang symbol

This is a fairly common explanation based on 'origin': Yin as dark side of a hill and Yang as light side of a hill. It should be noted that in the oracle bones, they were two separate concepts and not used together as a singular meaning of Yin-Yang. http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Yin_and_Yang Origins of the Terms "Yin" and "Yang" The earliest Chinese characters for yin and yang are found in inscriptions made on “oracle bones” (animals shoulder blades and turtle carapaces used in ancient Chinese divination). In these inscriptions, "yin" and "yang" refer to natural phenomena such as weather conditions, especially the movement of the sun. There is sunlight during the day ("yang") and a lack of sunlight at night ("yin"). According to the earliest comprehensive dictionary of Chinese characters (ca. 100 C.E.), Xu Shen’s Shuowen jiezi (Explaining Single-component Graphs and Analyzing Compound Characters), "yin" refers to “a closed door, darkness and the south bank of a river and the north side of a mountain.” "Yang" refers to “height, brightness and the south side of a mountain.”[1] The concept of yin and Yang probably arose from ancient agrarian religion and the daily life of peasant farmers, which centered around the sun. Daylight was the time for work, night was for rest. Yang (dong) represents movement, yin (jing) represents rest. The two characters were not associated in their earliest usages. The two characters first appear in writing together in a verse from the Shijing (Book of Songs), a compilaton of poems from the Zhou Dynasty (1027-771 B.C.E.) through the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 B.C.E.): “Viewing the scenery at a hill, looking for yinyang.” The phrase describes the effect of sunlight and shadow falling simultaneously on the hill.[2] Hsi tz'u, or “Appended Explanations” (c. fourth century B.C.E.), an appendix to the I Ching (Classic of Changes), contains the phrase, “One [time] Yin, one [time] Yang, this is the Tao.” The concept is called yin yang, not yang yin, because the former has a preferred pronunciation in Chinese, and the word order has no cultural or philosophical meaning.
  2. The Goal

this question carries an inherent assumption... that their method of practice is something one is interested in or trying to learn. If one has no interest in their paradigm of mixing Daoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism as a practice, then it is almost moot what they are telling you about what you are practicing. My observation is that very few at this site are interested in this as an active practice. My observation is that most follow much earlier/more ancient energetic, magic and/or natural methods.
  3. New Wikileaks allegedly

And yet.. not that surprising otherwise, we are living in glass houses
  4. EPA under Trump WH

To answer to those who fight against some assignments, like Pruitt to oversee the EPA... He claims to have sued the EPA many times and won... so why assign him to oversee the EPA ? In my common sense world... if an agency has problems... those that agree with the agency don't understand the problem. Those that oppose the agency problems do. So, give it to someone who understands the problems and clean house. Drain that EPA swamp.] I'm not talking authoritative but just from my common sense view. I understand the appointment. If he goes too far, then that is a discussion point for sure. I think he wants to push EPA responsibility to states... I'm not sure it is useful to discuss if he is right or not but rather, what is the direction he is going and what implications that has. JMO.
  5. Yes... that seems almost surreal... but now past stuff... a grand pass given without investigation or oversight. I've almost forgotten it as I don't like to look to the past too much except for context of 'what makes sense', 'what is in context of past admins', and 'lets keep common sense on this'. We could explore a topic on HC but I'd rather not for a few reasons... she had her day, a few times. She should be remembered for a lifetime contribution to government. I truly believe Trump likes the Clintons and predicted he would not take any action on her. Until she creates a personal presence again in politics, I'm giving her a personal pass...
  6. EPA under Trump WH

This seems a fair topic as they want to change stuff and there are implications. My take is they want to push responsibility back to states to clean up their mess. I would personally like to see something like Federal directive that states need to abide by with some leeway that they need to also just do what they want... Like we do in the auto industry in the past. The Feds direct and the manufacturers need to comply. In some cases, states created strong regulations. Color me naive but I think a good topic.
  7. Clapper lied under oath... and later apologized. that is a felony with up to five years... NO ACTION. BTW: Snowden, the awful traitor revealed it. There is a remote option that he simply was not in the loop on this but I can't see this as realistic. Either there was a warrant (which requires criminal intent) or FISA which requires probably cause in relation to a foreign entity. I think I've seen there is some wide-ranging leeway to intercept any foreign communication and this would explain some things but would be most troubling as it could of been used in a focused way against the other political party. In the end, the thing that bothers me the most is, the initial claims there is something between the Trump team and Russia and all media ran with that and has resulted in many comments that 'nothing was found'... but Trump's tweet is now meet with cries of 'unsupported', 'unsubstantiated', etc. It's a whole different universe the press panders between.
  8. Fair point... but I tend to think regardless of the republican who won the top spot, the Russians held a grudge against Hillary and likely wanted to harm her reputation. Hillary Confesses To Causing Putin To Hack The U.S. Presidential Election Why Putin Hates Hillary When was the first Russian hacking ? June 14, 2016... prior to Trump's formally announcement to run. So, what we can say for sure is: Putin was anti-Hillary...
  9. Here's a curious thought... play out the situation that Flynn actually tells Pence the truth... and then Pence needs to spin it in interviews... and if he is not really forthright, then who does the FBI call in to have a sit-down with ? In a very strange way, the WH dodged a major bullet that might of been aimed at the VP. Ergo, the WH should thank Flynn for keeping to some secretive way he preferred to behave like, and let him 'out' himself.
  10. For the record... I'm actually glad Flynn is out and McMaster is in... Flynn brought this on himself and there is no excuse for lying. What this does raise is a curious issue... IMO, he must of believed that there was no way in the world that anyone could know about this call. The fact is, the call was intercepted by intelligence and the rest is history...
  11. That's why you don't understand Trump... he was not calling on Russia to do it... it was a pulpit moment he relishes. He does that kind of thing over and over. It is meant more as a joke. Not to their chagrin... they just requested a full scale investigation by probing both sides of it. And the investigation has been going on since like July or at least Oct due to the Trump servers in question... and again, several people (not anonymous) within the WH or committees said 'no ties were found'. I'm not sure they are really be any clearer than some of the current issues as they may mean no ties between the server issue they were concerned about. If this were Japan or an ally, it would all be moot... so there is a Russia bias to some degree as we love to make them out as the bad guys. Like we're afraid to actually get along with Russia...
  12. senior American officials said I'm beginning to wonder why folks are only talking anonymously when this is so simple: Comey can come out and make a statement from the FBI. And publicly call on the DOJ to join with a statement... In fact, that would be better for Comey to say it as it was the NYTimes that reported they got a FISA order. There is no response from DOJ to date... and I'm not surprised. Spicer said he was approached by the FBI to say a news report was false and he could quote them on it... and Spicer did the common sense thing to ask them to just make the statement... and then we're told by Spicer the FBI didn't want to get involved... although they supposedly raised it. But now the FBI wants the DOJ to make a statement ? Some of these stories just don't add up... my common sense radar is flipping like crazy. It all sounds like a shell game as no one wants to talk from an official capacity but are willing to run their mouth as an anonymous source...
  13. But you called such actions of talking to Russia as 'dirty' and 'crooked'... the point is, it is actually commonplace. Senators and the speaker backed Flynn's ability to talk to Russia. The call nor a meeting is out of line.
  14. I tend to agree with the arrest part... he lied in public but likely told the truth when questioned by the FBI... so nothing criminal occurred. There was nothing wrong with his making a call and he did not promise any deal. The contents seem likely very similar to Obama's off mic talk about "after the next elections, I can be more flexible" with the Russian official who said he would relate that to Putin
  15. Yin Yang symbol

In 1987, at Xishuipo Cemetary Ruins in Puyang County, Henan Province, figures of a dragon and a tiger were unearthed in a tomb. Also see here: MandateofHeaven.pdf I wrote here: http://www.thedaobums.com/topic/37889-3-holocene-neolithic-cultures-11000-2000-bc/?p=614708 wiki:
  16. I do agree that the eventual focus will be on the FISA (or not) issue. Trump's actual tweet is but a peanut on a pile and not the real issue. Of course Hillary's past dealings will be completely ignored and should be at this point but shows how she was given a pass given the Clinton Foundation.
  17. I might guess there are two higher categories to either confront it or let it go. The former seems more modern psychological and the latter more Laozi nurturing. LZ said the sage nurtures the 10,000 rising and falling... meaning to allow them to do as they will. I remember when I first meet my wife and some discussions where I asked her: "Do you accept the sun but not the snow?" When we make it personal, we take it internal. I don't want to minimize the issue but simply share one idea of complete release by accepting the comings and goings. If you say, you have accepted this all.. then why the thread
  18. Yin Yang symbol

We would have to bring in feng shui or the earlier, Kan Yu practices... Maybe Taomeow can talk to that. I mentioned in my histories threads: http://www.thedaobums.com/topic/38022-1-legendary-period-to-xia-3000-%E2%80%93-2200-bc/ I think that the earliest understanding of the 'Way' things work and moved revealed an inherent duallity and likely the sky, as your first link showed, and observations of heaven and earth continued to give rise to such ideas. The earliest chinese cosmology is the Tai Yi Sheng Shui and we find LZ repeating a phrase in it about Dao... but this is worth a read: http://www.thedaobums.com/topic/18957-the-water-book-taiyi-sheng-shui-%E5%A4%AA%E4%B8%80%E7%94%9F%E6%B0%B4/
  19. Yin Yang symbol

Shen become two parts later... Yin and Yang are just archetypes for duality. Go back as far as possible in chinese history and it shows up. Fuxi and sister-wife Nuwa are intertwined as serpents. The first recorded evidence that may be symbolic of Yin and Yang was made by neolithic shells to form a tiger and dragon. 6,000 year old tomb. It shows up in several more archtypes as one progress through the centuries.
  20. constant 'error with SQL server'

Agreed that it is very strange to see it, and so frequently but not worth the time to invest into fixing it as we'll update to all new everything, hardware and software. I have a small nagging feeling that it started when there was a conversion of the data character set. Originally it was not UTF-8 and I had raised that chinese characters don't render correctly in titles but do in posts. There was a change made to the software settings on the character set but it doesn't mean there was a proper conversion of the data. Sean looked into what a conversion would required and it didn't seem worth the time investment. In any case, thanks for your patience and help in sharing forum issues
  21. Yin Yang symbol

nice link... I recall finding that many years ago. I shared this else where and not sure I'd push this is an origin of the Yin Yang symbol, but I can't help but admire the similarity: The ancient chinese character for Spirit, 神:
  22. I would not characterize Sessions as having lied but answering too narrowly to an exact idea of whether he as a surrogate of the campaign meet with the R. Ambassador about the campaign, elections or future direction. Compare that to the McCaskill and Pelosi who both said they "never" meet the Ambassador. And compare the response to Trump's tweet of O wiretapping. They only answer that O did not order the wiretap... it is narrowly answering exactly like Sessions. They are not answering if O knew of the FISA investigation into Trump and Co. The 'wiretap' comment is essentially not the correct way of saying what the FISA is doing. Even Paul Ryan admitted nothing came of the investigation he was aware of.
