A big current topic is the sanctuary cities and states stating they are not going to perform federal enforcement of immigration laws as that is not their state level responsibility.... their thinking is: The feds need to enforce federal laws, not the states. I have generally been sympathetic to this basic thinking and the reason for the illegal levels is largely (so I think) to the complexity of enforcing this at a federal level. But it dawns on me that there are lots of federal laws and now it makes me think there must be some that states enthusiastically support and help with but it seems the illegal immigration one has become their selectively refusing a federal law now. Thoughts?

Awakened vs Enlightened... Let's discuss the difference

yes, we need 'Fifty shades of gray'.... and yes, I did watch the movie -
I have this small radar I apply which starts with a simple question: "Does it make sense"? Of course that can be a range of objective to subjective based on the issues but... That Congress authorized it and 40 nations were a part of it... it seems to make no fucking sense to me... JMO

Likely we'll never get away from talking some actual words as long as I'm sticking my nose in the verse But to the 'deeper meaning' idea, it would be interesting to maybe discuss Dust's [negative] criticism, which might be stated as: What good is it to really dump down the populous ? Is it just for an orderly mass of inept folks who are too stupid to know what to act on or how to act? BTW: This is taking some liberty and continuing Dust's comments, I'm not trying to put words in his mouth but the criticism seems to be the deeper issue to get our arms around.

His insertion of 'opening hearts' is a bit curious... the line is split among translators as either emptying the mind vs emptying the heart because the chinese character is XIN, heart-mind. I find it mildly insightful, if his suggestion is that as you empty your mind your heart will open. I'm not sure if Flowing Hands sees this playing into his common usage of having a heart of Dao, Dao Xin. (?)

And it seems the liberal side has created it's own form of hate and violence... seems more a stalemate

I'd prefer to at least see a title and short comment or quote so folks understand the context.

Correct words of Patriarchs
dawei replied to Arkady Shadursky's topic in Miscellaneous Daoist Texts & Daoist Biographies
Except the words used were 'incorrect', 'false' and 'intentional'... that is hardly to be re-stated now as simply bad. You're trying to claim the 'correct' translation without allowing there to be the chance your's is not correct either. So it is not really an invitation to discuss on some level but to pointedly show where one person is the object of your thread. You would not even have to mention anyone's name at all... but that doesn't seem to be a realization. The best course in such topics is to present a translation and offer your understanding and ask folks to discuss it. If there is really no discussion to be made but "read my correct translation and understand XYZ is simply wrong", and the thread is in the wrong sub-forum as there is no entire text being discussed but tidbits from another thread where they already exist... such stuff feels like spam and bringing in other threads of what folks said is akin to trolling more. From what I can tell about the entire thread, it is just a desire to discredit another member by pulling from threads all over the forum. That is not welcomed discussion.- 125 replies

Correct words of Patriarchs
dawei replied to Arkady Shadursky's topic in Miscellaneous Daoist Texts & Daoist Biographies
But you're just re-quoting posts that are part of a thread that was moved to Chaos and not really doing much different than trying to draw attention to another member instead of speaking your own words. This thread may end up with the same outcome as it is being used as a vehicle as mentioned.- 125 replies

Do you find the concept or real time travel interesting?

Where, or when do you want to time travel to ? -
Very interesting you came to that idea... It has been argued by Sarah Allen that the oldest cosmology of Tai Yi Sheng Shui is based on divination using the ancient cosmograph. THE GREAT ONE, WATER, AND THE LAOZI: NEW LIGHT FROM GUODIAN BY SARAH ALLAN example graphic: In brief: The center doesn't move and is static and eternal; The wheel spins and is life. Dao is the center; without motion. Every movement relative to the center is the manifest world. Many folks can talk to Form=Void but they can't explain Void=Form. The former is: there is no self arising; it is interdependent on previous arising. How to explain the latter: Void= Form ? (no self) arising = no (self arising) [credit another member with this] which just means: Dao-arising = 10,000 rising

I know this is getting off topic but they wrote. I'm happy to makes some recommended reading to show the general position of power they held. But if you like poets, try Li Qingzhao. -

IMO, then you didn't really experience China It is nothing about bars and clubs.. please.. that is younger generation stuff. Except that their beer really sucks and their wine is worse... but their baijiu is culturally embedded to knowing chinese. -
dan tians are like higher order space or pools in which chakras swim. There are many more chakras than we can ever know but lets stick to the basic 7... or I will for now. I would focus on the Tai Ji Pole as the root-to-crown , central channel , that passes through the 3 dan tians. That dan tians are like containers of energy and chakras like wheels [spinning] of energy is a good picture. The mountain waters lead to the ocean... they are all connected... flowing downward...

May be... but let's be fair... the idea of an 'alcoholic' in the west is very different than being somewhat norm in china. The key is to not project our understanding of terms and usage onto another culture. The best approach is to live within that culture and then one is able to speak in some way about it. What we need is for folks to know another culture in experience not just in books nor teaching. That may increase an understanding in history, teaching, and people. But it is not required but may be a liability till we reach that point where there is singularity of thought, understanding, and feeling. -
@TT... would you comment on the blue sections.

I read this several days ago and am still laughing inside.... you're clearly not married to a chinese lady The Way of Complete Perfection: A Quanzhen Daoist Anthology starting at P.32 Song on Awakening to Perfection by Wang Chongyang You can bet the wife would of written a very different polemic -
I'm not sure what you mean by health care costs... insurance or the provider side of care ? I would agree that insurance went up but I've not looked at whether provide care went up. I had assumed, and I'm sure someone's going to throw a few more links after that, that insurance companies found themselves paying out more than previously because they had to cover anything and they in turn jacked up insurance costs.

I don't see anything emerges from Tao... I see Tao as the 'rule' by which things arise and go their way. and why I did this thread, The GREAT ONE is not Dao where MB said:
