  1. About necessity of having a true Teacher

    so you can say with certainty that you are on a path of side-effect of a future physical immortality? And how many more lifetimes will it take to get there? If you are on a destined path of immortality, then I suspect you can see the future as the future is now. BTW There are some on this board who can see past and future... maybe immortality is now.
  2. There is a reason one can Wu Wei... and others are doing and creating more... and it is not about "You doing nothing..."
  3. and in 10 or 20 years when they change that label... what can we say ? Ignore labels.. understand people... seems Laozi said that a long time ago... @LL... get the point? Drop labels and quoting medical texts.... know thyself.... is to know others. How often did a label hurt others vs knowing them help others?
  4. And yet folks want to use labels that may still be pathological on some level... because they are not comfortable with another person... or president to be ? I think my example went way over folks heads... sorry for that
  5. maybe I don't know your definition of disorder... it seems that you call someone having a disorder when others actually understand the behavior... so it seems my examples doesn't resonate as a past discovery that others have now quoted. I lean towards understanding of behavior instead of using labels disorder and normal... labels, even from the past, seem to haunt folks to quickly quote from liable sources... why not just understand each other instead of any labels... How about I start another topic based on current events and then this one can remain open to talk about news pundit predictions of the future and disorders...
  6. And if he was gay then we should understand that personality disorder in some way too ? Why not just drop all the personality stuff and stick to reality... what actually happens and occurs. Comment on current events and not on imaginary ones. that's what I prefer to do... but this area is open to imaginary events nonetheless.
  7. Your predicting. just like the news pundits... Everything you mention is not a presence reality... more like a fear... I don't want to do too much crystal ball stuff but when I do, I say it... otherwise, I stick to what is going on now. Actual action by companies.
  8. The chinese are childish in international politics... should bring a smirk... what they are really good at, they should continue to do... investing in global projects and becoming a global presence. Wait till that dragon wakes up...
  9. I get that.. it is kind of the paradox of cultivation... for what's it worth: I never heard the word 'cultivate' for my first 10 years of energy work... only follow the nature of the energy flowing... follow what you are doing or feeling interacting with... so the word kind of makes me smile now... cuz it tends to carry some connotation of 'doing'. I once read the words of Baopuzi who said, 'practice is not natural'.... While I did not recognize the word 'cultivate', I did understand the concept of 'practice'... So I stopped 'practice' and went back to the core of follow and reside and flow with energy.. and it has moved me along much faster than I ever imagined... but I would say, that is simply my karmic path. If another tells me of their path, I can only try to help them within their path and destiny. All the talk of traditions, practices, paths are very individual, IMO... I don't wish any path on another other than their own path...
  10. Off Topic Discussions

    That is the basically the current way... but the goal (as discussed with the owner and past admin ideas) is to try and not lock posts... it stops their venting... but as you can see, there are posts locked... so it does at some point still require staff to decide if a Pitted topic has gone too far. I think you see the Pit/Chaos dilemma
  11. Focus on cultivation true reality ??? that sounds like more entertainment Any seeking, wanting, desiring, path enriching... it is all our own entertainment... no wonder Wu Wei is so hard to understand
  12. I agree with the first part... he is a hard read... but some know it. I would just lightly suggest that 'characteristics' is more personality stuff... and we should be past that... it is time to see what can be done... changed... moved onwards past and towards...
  13. Brilliant in the way a person tries a technology in a way never used before... and finds it is effective... His tweets are public but his message is directed... those feeling the direct message are responding on some level. That effect is brilliant as no past president has tried nor accomplished that prior to being sworn in. Whether that has any weight later is to be seen. But the fact that industry is reading and responding means they want to see this instead of the local news BS. Folks can take or leave his meaning. The important point is, how does industry react... Ford seems the most current positive example.
  14. Women are the canopy... men are the can-o-shit... China was originally matriarch... but succumbed to warrior type men... it is not wonder the Confucians extolled the "Sage-King" era... and Zhuangzi said that was a period where 'they left the dao'...
  15. Does everything include the deities, spirits, and entities that visit/inhabit the manifest world... and that some have contact with them? Whether that is a part of body, mind, or energy may be splitting hairs.. and why it is easier to just ask my question
  16. I hate social media... but Trump's use of Twitter is brilliant... not always hitting the target but an arrow shot is whistling in the wind... and when someone hears the whistling.. they can decide for themselves if they will do something.
  17. Off Topic Discussions

    I liked Bubble's posts and glad to see you raise it more as a discussion... the off-topic forum area, and reminder that rules apply goes back some time... just as the forum Chaos has a reminder that rules apply... there is no "No Rules Apply" area to the forum... as of yet I think I would generally disagree with getting rid of off-topic as there is a lot to share and talk about... and to blow off steam... instead of doing that in the other areas. If you look at off-topic, there are almost NO new members who join just to post there... most of the posters are established members who have learned how to disagree (aka fight) and not take it too personal... So I am not sure I would agree with the idea that the public viewing attracts new members. I will say that at one time, I personally did turn it off from public viewing... and there was backlash from the membership that they like to view the forum without logging in, and that including Off-topic. I listened, and I opened it back up. I like that members want to come back to read, even if not logged in. This site really serves the members, and by that I tend to likely mean those who have a serious recommendation to make the place better overall... and this topic can be a discussion in that way. I should close with some history and recent recommendations and folks can comment: 1. Chaos was and maybe is still affectionately known as the PIT... some habits never die..and that is ok... and at one time, one could start topics in the PIT... when that was done by a certain member (now banned but wish he would ask to come back), it was decided that these topics should not be started behind the public curtain anyways as they are too combative... so... starting topics in the PIT was stopped. 2. Folks could start a topic in, let's say off-topic... push the envelope... and get it moved to the PIT... the Italians have a saying: When there is a law, there is a way around the law... we found that out at TDB 3. More recently, at least two folks suggested a sub-forum of off-topic that was more like, off-limits... to suggest, no limit to the topic and that should be non-public... At the time, my counter comment was: that is the Pit/Chaos... although I recognize we don't allow new threads there. Also, I argued, to allow that might suggest we want such controversial topics here. Given the above, I hope others share some thoughts.. thanks for the topic
  18. I'm only trying to point out that even your explanation is built within some boundaries of tradition and path... although I really like to read your posts as they are broader than most. Now, you clever put back my comment but still did not really explain what you mean by 'know Dao'. So the person who naturally follows their nature; eating when hungry and sleeping when tired... does not know Dao ? Or are you talking about a higher order understanding? That is what I hoped to understand from your comments. I will also share, there are traditions/practices/paths/destinies that are not getting there by 'reversal'... Have you read anything on the topics of XYP here? This is much closer to my path and some others I know, or even those in daoist magic. In principle, it is a deity path. While maybe very little understood and less the road followed, it exists... very narrow indeed. Also, I see a fun paradox in, 'the road is narrow'... if one takes the ancient meaning of Dao as path or road... The Dao is narrow...
  19. The OP wrote about "foundation"... she asked about "foundation"... I'd just re-read carefully... and decide if the question is something you can answer...
  20. This seems a bit of a narrow road... Dao is so vast, it is in everything. That would suggest everything can (and likely should) know Dao. So do you want to say that to 'know Dao' may be something more of a teaching or traditional position ? Like when Zhuangzi said 'xyz attained Dao' ? The problem with your statement is that it only covers certain traditions and paths... there are some that don't follow your formula. That is all I am saying... But I do agree with your last comment.
  21. Yangshen perspectives in traditional Schools

    ~~~ ADMIN WARNING ~~~ This is the second time this morning you are personally insulting and telling someone to go else where... and we've had this conversation already about paying attention to oneself. It is the staff's position to deal with issues you're trying to claim and exclaim to other members. let's folks participate in the threads and let staff deal with the relevance. Let the thread continue with comments directed to the topic, not member nor staff. Folks can use the Report Button if they feel something should be dealt with but realize that less than 1% of issues are dealt with... which is to say: people over-react in posting and use of the report button. Everyone should take stock in their own participation foremost.
  22. Can you provide links that help show/explain the following, preferably from your website. I assume if you are a branch/school of WLP, then you likely share the below to establish it. Thanks in advance: 1. Founding and origin of Wuliupai 2. Branches before or after as applicable 3. master lineage leading directly to your school
  23. I generally agree with your points and there are likely ways one could reveal those findings to even a select group of techs who would then vouch for it... but even that or they shared it with Trump's team, he will likely just do is own independent evaluation using his new team. So I hope he just drops all comments about whether to believe the current analysis... and move on. I think the action taken was more a bone toss to him than anything else. It was a very weak move to remove the guys who have no role in the hacking anyways. So the government can at least say something was done; seems more symbolic particularly with Putin waiting to see Trump's next play.... and inviting all the US counterparts to a christmas party. Given that Russia has been hacking us for years and we knew about the political hacks 18 months ago and did nothing much, it's just too little too late in terms of action and excuses. Let the next administration decide on doing something.
  24. Talking bad about good things
    Somethings the initial issue is a cause and sometimes the second punch is the one the referee calls as more dangerous. In forum issues, both of these seem to hold true too. A person is allowed their opinion and a discussion on a topic. If folks find it groundless, they can also choose to ignore it. But continued posting in it and calling it spam or trash actually are reactive posts causing a more dangerous atmosphere at times. I've mostly seen the former calling out a branch as found in schools but has not called out anyone individual by name... yet the responders continue to call out people by name. That is showing less control over one's opinion as it is taken to a more, directly personal level. That is creeping on rules issues more than the former.
  25. Old DDJ translations
    I had put together something till the SQL errors popped up... so glad I checked back --- the irony is that the very first line of DDJ1 is problematic because nobody knew the original character Heng was replaced with Chang. That may not produce the greatest discrepancy in the text, but is confusing and misleading at the outset, to see the various early attempts. Balfour, 1884 The Tao or Principle of Nature, may be discussed [by all]; it is not the popular or common Tao Legge, 1891 The Tao that can be trodden is not the enduring and unchanging Tao Goddard, 1919 The Tao that can be understood cannot be the primal, or cosmic, Tao These three older translations are all over the place trying to figure out how best to describe "Chang" (常)... But the original character is "Heng" (恆), which somehow the below early asian translator seemed to imply that meaning although he also only have "Chang" to work from. Ch'u Ta-Kao, 1904 The Tao that can be expressed is not the eternal Tao I wrote on Heng and Chang : Heng Chang An issue often raised is that of comma placement; the original does not have any but many translates assume them at certain places and that drives their interpretation. Chapter 1 is a litmus test for some because depending on the comma placement (even mentally there), you get a different meaning... look at lines 3 and 4: Using Wang Bi's received version: 無名,天地之始 有名,萬物之母 Chan The Nameless is the origin of Heaven and Earth; The Named is the mother of all things. Chen Nameless (wu-ming), the origin (shih) of heaven and earth; Named (yu-ming), the mother (mu) of ten thousand things. 無,名天地之始 有,名萬物之母 Lok Sang Ho Emptiness is the origin of heaven and earth; Existence is the mother of everything that had a birth. Chad Hansen 'Not-exist' names the beginning (boundary) of the cosmos (Heaven and earth) 'Exists' names the mother of the ten-thousand natural kinds . If you just want where the early translators were wrong, then we'd likely need to do a bit of a study on them as I don't really read them that much but I am sure there was much learned since their translations.
