~~~ ADMIN MESSAGE ~~~ Thread was cleaned up. Let's stick to the topic. And it would be best if chinese characters are provided that there is some attempt to translate for the rest. Otherwise, it is distracting and also being used in disrespectful ways.
I am pretty certain my wife's mind stops quite often... and she never meditates This whole monkey mind and hamster wheel stuff is like John Lennon singing:
So this was one of the main reasons I started this thread: German legislators want to fine Facebook for fake news One of the reasons I feel FB is being unfairly targeted is that they just channel news out there; they don't start it... and it seems the original source is to really blame. When will people take the major networks to task, to remain objective and stick to facts instead of trying to steal headlines... it's a game but it's gotten out of control.
-
I think this is a good example fake news: 1. China takes a US drone 2. US working with China to get it back 3. Trump tweets that China should just keep it 4. News saying that such tweets will now make it harder to get the drone back 5. The drone actually gets returned very fast The fake news occurs at #4... that was sensationalism without any basis. This is happening likely hundreds of times a day... Creating news that isn't there. Its not so much that it is intentionally creating fake news but the obsession with trying to state a headline based on faulty thinking. So why did the opposite happen ? My wife agreed 100% and very quickly on why it happened... it takes looking at the entire tweet (or two) instead of cherry picking a part of it as news so often does. The part of the tweet they leave out in most new outlets is the part they didn't understand the impact of, and thus ignored it. That is the important part of the tweet... Tweet #1: Tweet #2: they stole back.- let them keep it! Anybody who knows anything about chinese political thinking and ways will realize the shudder the words above will induce. That was the kind of affront that chinese will do anything to quickly quell... All the US news spinners heard was "Trump told China to keep the drone" in order to sensationalize a headline. In the hearts of chinese, they heard, 'the president-elect just called us thieves..."
I basically agree with your point and this example can be viewed from either side as there are some things he said that obviously triggered people... but what surprised me the most is that the pre-election claims that the 'right' would cause violence and hatred if Trump lost, we instead are getting it from the 'left' folks who made those claims... and their outrage seems... quite outrageous on some level. But everyone needs to deal with their life in their own way. I'm just one of them, as many have said in interviews: He won and its time to move on; what's next... get to it...
yes... no reason to poke fun at the issue,except folks want to. But to push an agenda or poke fun at an agenda... seems the same.... but in either case, I will observe the fun folks have on their side of it... which means... they continue to create sides, in a way...
He wasn't banned.. but fake news has reached TDB... welcome back
I voted other. It is just the beckon call... If I had taken this several years ago, I likely would of only said, I feel pulled along a path but not sure why or where...
The previous comment of a tree is likely the most natural try... and if you won't try that, then you want more forceful methods? I still stand by this recommendation if your karmic destiny can follow a basic book: http://www.thedaobums.com/topic/40914-dr-yang-jwing-mings-best-book-to-start/?p=684642
JMO... but that is an expectation that I don't think even LZ would impose on others... let the 10,000 arise and fall according to their nature. that is what I look forward to.
Understanding is better late than never Gendao has been a member long enough to make such an accurate statement of the issue... maybe it takes close to 10 year But I saw it in about 2 years on staff... It is a mob mentality and a mob, in forum-speak is just a 'group'. This is my opinion that I have shared with staff rotations before: TDB is historically a very individual-based practice forum and our guidelines and rules tend to support that concept or ideal; equal voice, equal respect, equal standing. So what you can have happen, as has several times, is that a 'group' can easily fall into creating an 'us vs them' and the them turns into the entire board Most of the groups come here together, accuse everyone of attacking them and dividing the board up... it has happened so many times, I've lost count. The current group in question has done this more than once before... and they are simply back facing their same nemesis in the end: Themselves. Meaning, they form a loose coalition of voices and then claim they are being attacked. OF course they don't tell you the member's they intentionally ran off the board... calling them fake and throwing everything including the kitchen sink at the person... As with most groups, that is why it may seem like there is some air of hostility that surrounds them; they don't generally come in peace in the first place but we continue to allow them
It's been re-opened for a while... I locked it... but as said, it has been re-opened... but you know that as you've posted in it
Now your changing your argument from one post to many posts. You're throwing darts. I wish you could see that it is of no value to yourself nor others to find fault outside when there is enough to ponder within. Focus on your own participate and contributions. In the end, that is what you'll have to answer for or be responsible for, not another's. Anyways, that is my advice and I'm not here to flesh out some kind of allusions people want to talk about. I'm going to go back to just observing more.
I'm of two minds here... but they resolve... 1. The separation of Dao[ism] is a bit silly and pushed along by the debate on philosophical daoism vs religious daoism... and if one wants to claim two, why not three or 10,000 ? 2. Dao is inseparable, yet it can produce the 10,000... this paradox should never leave our hearts and minds. The issue seems to be the cherry-picking in tradition/teaching/practices. In this light, you will definitely find 10,000 ways of man reflectign Dao[ism]. if you look at folks who natural reside without knowing, then Dao is there along with other parts naturally residing too. Our being as a composite. So I'm not sure the problem... or maybe the basic question here is: Is there really something "Americanized" about Dao[ism] that may not be historical Dao[ism] ? I think I've answered that above... if you pick and choose... that is Doing... when you allow everything to naturally arise, that is Not Doing and yet nothing is not Done. I would only say that if one is of the former, they get a part of the tradition/teaching/history... the latter may be open to more of it but it may not completely come in this lifetime... but both should be patient and accepting of their way.
I think the former has more karmic destiny and the latter is more personal interest/intrigue/desire to be a part of or do something
There is no real conflict going on but a discussion with some disagreement/clarifications... not a single rude word spoken directly towards another. And even in the next exchange in her thread on "school" , they had started cordial enough with some difference of opinion... and then spiraled from there. So you're really stirring a pot of inaccurate accusations... as this entire thread seems to be. I would recommend you read my post here, and ergo only focus on your own posting and contributions. Anything else will just lead you down this type of compromised posting. http://www.thedaobums.com/topic/42779-lets-be-meaningful-and-polite-here/?p=725957 Best.
I'm not sure why folks waste so much energy in such threads and finger pointing... but as this comment feels like 'fake news'... I'll bite. Exactly what Thread that Opendao started where he offers skype interviews ?
To be honest... I find it rather shocking that anyone would use FB for news... That is why I think if FB wants to funnel news they need a better idea than reader's ratings.
-
Exactly... and they should be branded as such... refusing to be a part of a news standard on accuracy vs fake... I know my idea is like wishful thinking but in this day and age, I actually think someone should be considering it.
-
I think news organizations would have a vested interest to come together, with tech companies to create some data feeds that pass with news articles. That's why I mentioned google as another player. So let's say it is all passed in something like XML... these connections to FB (or whoever wants it) would re-query the data constantly to update the article and rating. So there would have to be a schema created and news organizations adopt it as a shared platform for their news. One thing I see is that some articles are being updated several times and I think that is a good thing but the problem is, most people don't go back to read the same article... but still an improvement, IMO. An early issue would be few adopt and thus FB would be feeding from few... but they could be feeding from others and just marked as not part of the standard yet... and they get like a '0' Rating to mean... reader beware, unless rated.
It may be inexperience on forums which prompts your questions as I have never seen someone need to ask this before. This tells me that any explanation will be rather difficult because what a member perceives as a rule issue and what staff will actually act on is a gap with many variables and issues that would be quite difficult to spell out. The most important thing to understand is that a member should first and foremost view the rules as to THEIR OWN ACTION and less about being forum police about other's actions. A majority of the members here read and/or post several times a week over years... so they have gotten used to how things work and what is the role of the REPORT BUTTON. Even among the veteran users, the Report Button has action taken about 2-5% of the time... so you can image what % that might be for someone who is inexperienced on a forum... somewhere close to 0%. So my advise is as follows: 1. View the rules as for yourself... you can even report yourself. That is not a joke, folks have done that before. So always view your actions as what the rules exist for. Think of it like you walk into a cafe or supermarket or bank... and someone else is mouthy or even bumps into you and says something rude. Are you going to be mouthy back? Are you going to report them to the business? Or are you likely to just ignore it ? 2. Ignore as a first step; just focus on participating and sharing your point of view of the thread topic. 3. Cultivate acceptance and patience as needed. 4. Inexperienced users should view the Report Button as a very last resort as if you need staff to jump in and immediately stop something before blood is drawn. Otherwise, see steps 1-3 and apply as much as possible. I hope this makes sense.
edit... just say you mention fear above... I am saying you are both right... just different perspectives.
I say nothing about fascism/authoritarianism, narcissism... other than to forget it. None of that predicted the outcome. So i am not relying on it. I accept others might continue to rely on such sources. That is simply where we disagree and time will tell the outcome. I say it is simple to imply once one lets go of the stuff I mention, other stuff becomes clear. It is simply that idea I present. I left that other stuff behind and then I understood a great deal more. If others want to hold to them, that is their choice. We will just come to different conclusions at this point.
