  1. A Subforum for the Tao Teh Ching

112 translations just in English - then there are the other nationalities with individual languages...
  2. A Subforum for the Tao Teh Ching

Sometimes it takes a fresh face to see through the fog. Methinks Twinner came along right when needed. It's been an interesting cycle.
  3. A Subforum for the Tao Teh Ching

For one, I think it is an Excellent Idea. In fact II've writen the Forum administrator about it with a copy of yor post. After all, it is considered by many Chinese to be the Taoist equivalent to the Bibble. (I have many Chinese Friends that I have talked to about TTC ) And with it being originaly written in 'Ancient' Chinese which, even when translated, still keeps the highly cultural specific alchemical nature. To be a New-B you make the best use of your short time here! Here's a website that has 29 translations, by different authors, for your new subforum. A snap shot of the introduction webpage "Tao Teh Ching - Line-by-Line Comparisons" "Chapter Index All 29 complete translations Author Index This web site is a tool for the study of how different English language translators rendered the ancient Chinese text of the Tau Teh Ching." You can browse the TTC chapter by chapter and see 29 different translations in line-by line comparisons. This is yet another MDiv project administered by St. Xenophon Seminary - work on this project is ongoing." Click Here to go There: Tao Teh Ching - Line-by-Line Comparisons, Chapter Index, with All 29 complete translations and Author Index Hey - I think Your baby has just taken it's second step! It has a Library !
  4. My Resignation as a Moderator

    An Excellent Closure!
  5. My Resignation as a Moderator

Ditto The Iggy Button is much beter - It lets every individual be their own moderator.
  6. Free Speech and Moderator Action

Agreed - In a timeline, we had to screw up before the moderators could screw up. My opinion is that it was not the moderators - it was the method. An on-site Ignore button alternative ?

Mal, Evolution is a fact of life that has allowed us humans to rise above other animals. Evolution is breaking out of the egg into outer space. Simply put, We take one step back to take two steps foward. What is obvious is that you and Sigwerd have done your best for this first step. As a Research & Development Chemist my first lesson, as a professional, was to learn that the true value, of research, lay in learning "what not to do" as it points the way better for "what to do". Think about it... I'm from the mountains in USA where one wrong step and a person would never rise up again. I know it takes balls to walk the cliff to see all but the all that is seen will tell of danger or benefits that lay at the bottom and ahead. Mal, you and Stigweard have been at the forefront of TTB's evolutionary process. No screw-up. Just simply following the laws of nature - the TAO.
  9. Free Speech and Moderator Action

I can't help but wonder how much of this is written by Mal...
  10. Free Speech and Moderator Action

I tend to agree - although - like anything from food to water to breathing air etc things can be overdone. My suggestion is the Iggy (ignore) selection, for who not to listen to, in your profile. It gives every individual the ability to monitor his or her own posts and reading.
  11. Free Speech and Moderator Action

I would think that if an accurate time line of the member's actions "before the banning" were used and the action's after the banning - as in the Reaction to the banning - The point of dispute which many are continuing today -left out- it would be reasonable. The point of dispute is obvious as Reactions to the Banning continue today. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ineveiably the "Where to from here" must be seen as an evolutionary move to learn from our mistakes. *** To me, the issue is not the moderators but the method. The method implies personal revenge. *** Also:The ignore option takes the place of moderators. All that is needed for moderating is for the individual to use the 'Ignore' option. So - Why the moderators?

The poor me thing is getting old really quick. read my previous post to see my view. We all are Volunteers. It seems that some have a 'need' to play police/tyrant/dictator. All have rules to follow to gratify their needs -the sad part is that all 3 are death wish - gratifications. Please read the first paragraph of this Link: My link
  14. Free Speech and Moderator Action

Apech, I only see the term 'toxic enviornment' used in your post - maybe you can explain...?
  15. Free Speech and Moderator Action

How do we know that you are not just one of the 'Shapings' that the moderators put in place to create the 'harmonous' enviornment that they desire ?
  16. Free Speech and Moderator Action

WoW ! I just discovered that there is still the IGY Button ! No Need for (adjetive deleted) Moderators ! Actually, I was just reading my Tarot cards and they told me that the real reason for the moderators was to see that the Bums didn't post any Liability problems for the website. That - I can understand.
  17. Free Speech and Moderator Action

As for your suggestions - it seems that most of the posters - most of the time - are working to advance TTB - Is this your end purpose - to end TTB rather than verbal warnings before Banning? Shaping discussions... This is just too weird too tyrannical ... too much of a controll freak. AKA: Micro Management. Please read the definition of Micro Management Effects at this link: My link We all know of the Hundreds of other Taoist websites such as this one: My link As far ss the moderators go - I am Strongly in favor of returning to the old system where there was an "IGNORE" that gave each and every poster the power of having a personal moderator. The moderator of No Moderator... 'Sounds Taoist doesn't it.
  18. Free Speech and Moderator Action

Diictator?...Tyrant?.. or was it another Moderator Shaping the Discussion???
  19. Free Speech and Moderator Action

Interesting in that this is a copy and paste quote from Stigweard's post... Now who gets banned for the abusive language ???
  20. Understanding the Tao

I agree. Meditation has been my diving platform from which I explore and begin to understand.

Discussions of banning should be held BEFORE the ban - not afterward. After a King Kong action, to come in to say that: "But let me reemphasize my personal position ... the moderators are the lowest rung on the ladder, we are just the muck sweepers and drain-hole scrubbers that do their best to stay out of sight and only come into view when some half-wit jams the toilet up with too much toilet paper " It means nothing - the Action says it all. Talk first - Act as a final resort.
  22. Understanding the Tao

I discoveed this website some years ago and have been studying it since. His writings are like simple Buddhist Koans (word puzzles) that are designed to help with the understandings. Although the following websites disclaimer, written by the websites present caretaker, does not seem to understand the writings - I have found great value in them since bout year 2,000: The Books he points to were originaly published by Hong Kong University press. "This site is intended as a resource for those interested in or curious about Buddhist/Taoist philosopher and essayist Wei Wu Wei. It includes extracts from eight books originally published between 1958 and 1974. It also contains essays published in various periodicals during the same period. The material is primarily metaphysical speculation, and is not representative of any particular sect or tradition, though it draws upon many. It is doubtful whether this site would be of use or interest to those seeking introductory material on Buddhism or Taoism." Quotes from a past Master on the Tao Wei Wu Wei The website, where his writings are stored, are at this link :My link Please note that the website is a member of "The Wandering Daoists" A webring of websites that has formed to promote the study of the Tao. - The Link is at the bottom of the page. TTB could be a member ! The table of contents from the introductory page (all aree clickable on the page): My personal favorite is : "BITS AND PIECES "CONTENTS OF SITE: INTRODUCTION - background information and quoted passages regarding objectives. BITS AND PIECES - a selection of quotes from the works of 'Wei Wu Wei'. PUBLISHED WORKS - BOOKS - a list of all books with details of publication, contents and extensive extracts. PUBLISHED WORKS - PERIODICALS - links to pieces also published in various periodicals. CITED WORKS AND RELATED READING - a list of sources cited by 'Wei Wu Wei' and a selection of related works. LINKS - links to cited works on-line, related web-sites, book sources, etc."
