  1. "Mutations" and "Natural Selection"

Dr. Sermonti became professor of genetics at the University of Camerino, then at the University of Palermo in 1965, and finally moved to the University of Perugia in 1970, where he is presently emeritus professor and where he manages the Genetics Institute of the University from 1974. Since 1979, Dr. Sermonti has been Chief Editor of Rivista di Biologia/Biology Forum, one of the oldest extant biology journals in the world, founded in 1919. He is the discoverer of the genetic parasexual recombination in antibiotic-producing Penicillium and Streptomyces.
  2. "Mutations" and "Natural Selection"

Yes, I am sure we have all heard before the statements like "science isn't perfect", or "science can be wrong, but religion can't admit to being wrong". That's all great. Of course science can be a useful tool. However, many people believe in it too much, and do in fact believe it is always right. I think it is always important to remember how often scientists get things wrong. Now within evolutionary theory and in these particular cases, it seems obvious what is happening here is that evolution is assumed to be true and is taken as the starting point, while the data is being made to fit the theory. That's backwards. All data should stand on it's own, but many scientists always try to make the evidence fit with evolution any way they can.

  4. "Mutations" and "Natural Selection"

Here's a fact for you that I did site already in the OP, from the journal Science. The fact that when scientists discovered Hox genes, they immediately began trying to fit them with the theory of evolution. They still try to do this to this day. They theorized that Hox gene duplication could provide the long missing genetic mechanism to allow one species to turn into another species. In 1997 however, that evolutionary theory was proven wrong. The so-called "mutations", or "disease resistance", or "adaptations", do not in and of themsleves provide an adequate genetic mechanism for a bacteria to evolve into a man.
  5. "Mutations" and "Natural Selection"

There are Molecular Biologists, and Geneticists, explaining why according to data they have examined in their particular fields, one species can not turn into another species.
  6. "Mutations" and "Natural Selection"

So the obvious thing people are going to say is, what is your belief? If not evolution by natural selection, then what? Here is an absolutely great explanation of a theory I sense makes a lot of sense- http://www.biology-online.org/biology-forum/about7594.html?hilit=Formations

This brings up another important issue. You see, some things indeed will have so called public support for longer periods of time than others. The Star Wars Franchise has been going strong for a very long time. Exactly, you are catching on. In the process of creating, while intelligence and spiritual/moral characteristics are 2 very important factors, both those things in and of themselves are not complete. You must also number 1, be accurate, precise, and consistent. And number 2, have enthusiasm, vibrancy, energy, and magnetism. In any creation you need to use those 4 things, energy, intelligence, accuracy, and spirituality/love. These are the 4 measures of any creation or creative force. There is a reason. Things always sway back and forth, between 2 extreme polarities. Everyone in this life, will have times where cirumstances and events will relatively be in their favour, times when chance seems to conspire against them, and times in between. Those who can stand the test of time, and best weather these storms, ups and downs in life, are those with the most energy, vibrancy, and magnetism. Those with the most intelligence, discrimination, and reason. Those with the most accuracy, consistency, and perfection.....and those with the most spirituality, love, trust, and tolerance. A good example is Jesus, he had those 4 key areas developed completely. For this reason most men today stand in awe of his achievements, and his words are worshipped by billions today. Yet Jesus was loved one day, then hated and crucified the next. That's true, but those corporate powers, are indeed powers in and of themselves. Their greatest power is the power and energy of wealth. "Green energy", you can call it. There are reasons people are attracted to Paris Hilton. She may or may not be lacking in some areas of life or character in some people's views, but in many aspects she is extremely powerful and attractive. Obviously. She is certainly pleasing to the eye, and has a certain charisma. There could be many possible reasons. It could have been ahead of it's time and most people didn't have refined enough tastes to appreciate it. Societies change and people's thinking changes with it. It could have been that it was strong in some aspects, but lacking in other aspects, so developing a taste for it came on slowly. I agree that, for various reasons, that statement is and can be very true. Like you say, they have enough wealth channeled, that they can lose some of it and the payoffs still eventually make it worthwhile in the end. Research and studies can be valuable, but they aren't everything. It's not really hard to see that wealth channeled in certain directions, money, and resources can add to and guide creations to make them very appealing and attractive. This is also only one method of creating, there are other ways. Not everything that is popular or successful is created by big companies either.

It's not an argument ad populum. It's not about what people's opinions are. Often times people can't objectively explain to you why they like something. What is it that makes one painting sell, and another not sell? What makes you like one musician and not another? How often have you heard a girl say, "I hate what these rappers are saying, but it's such a catchy song I can't stop listening to it, and can't talk bad about it." You can have 2 paintings of equal skill level, and yet one attracts people and the other can't draw flies to horse manure. You can have a movie that has tons of intellectual content, well developed stories and characters, that should be a good movie on paper, and yet people still aren't drawn to it. People can't explain why this happens. Whatever you do, whether you are an artist, musician, filmaker, athlete...there's more to it than just the art. In anything you do, you have to give it life, you have to give it energy. One of the ultimate tests is whether you can draw. How much attractive power what you put out has. There is an x factor that most people can't identify, so they think it's all about skill, but it's not. It's about whether you put energy into it, the energy to attract other people. How much attractive power you personally have, will be reflected in the product that you create. So again, numbers don't lie. It doesn't matter what you do, it's worthless unless it can attract and draw. Anything you do is worthless if you can't put energy and attractive power into it. Nothing has value on it's own, it only has value for the results it gets. The ultimate criteria for the quality of anything is how much energy is implanted into it, and how much attractive power it has. Attraction and Energy, that is the only objective inherent value something can have. Star Wars, certainly has this. More so than other movies that should be "better" movies on paper, but don't cut it in reality.

People can have all the personal opinions they want, but George Lucas' success tells you the real story.
  13. Falun Dafa thread - open discussion...

When someone talks a lot of smack about others, it tells you more about the person talking than the people they are talking about. A lot of people get jealous when they see others who are shining and are popular. When someone hates on something, it's because they already have that hate inside themselves.

That actually doesn't sound too conspiracy theory-ish.
  18. Falun Dafa thread - open discussion...

I addressed what I thought were 2 major points you did bring up, that people may find relevant. Namely, the claims this system of Qigong is racist, and allegations that it is a cult. From what I see, these claims aren't true. I didn't think they were good, I found them mostly to be sort of twisting things around. I would dispute that the teacher of this system is "Infallible" or can not be questioned. Any leader has to have consistency. If for example a teacher taught a certain set of principles, they can not all of a sudden change and go against everything they have taught. The students of any system would question in that situation! However, just having a leader is far from enough criteria to deem something a cult. That is the most broad use of the word cult possible. If we use that criteria so many of the world's religous sect's could be cults. Is the teacher of Falun Gong way more infallible than say....the Pope is to his followers? Probably not. We can't just throw a term like this around like it's not a big deal, and call anything we don't like a cult. Leader's are necessary in this world, and at the end of the day, not just in spiritual movements or religions, but in many institutions like businesses and schools, someone has to be the boss and have final say. This is not sufficient to make something a cult. What about the other citeria for cults? Seperating people from their normal lives, or friends, or family? Believing in a Doomsday scenario? Believing all other ways are evil schools? That is overly paranoid. Actually, if you didn't know already, I'm a member of Jerry Falwell's ministy of fundamentalist creationism. Lol, but really I'm just a poster on the internet who saw this topic and decided to look into it. No I do not practice this system. You have to make your own decisions, I can't tell you what to do. You have freewill and have every right to practice or not practice whatever you want. It sounds however, that you may be blaming the system for qualities you disliked in other, imperfect, humans, who also practice this system. It also sounds that emotions can come up, and get pretty intense. People die to practice this system in China so it is not hard to understand that some people could become emotional and over zealous about wanting the world to help and make changes. Many religions might consider someone who didn't behave well, according to whatever tenets that religion has, as "evil". Let's not get too out of context and blow something out of proportion. Just cuz you're "evil", doesn't make you the devil. You have to decide for yourself though whether my analysis of your story is correct or not, whether it is the people in the system, or the system it self.......or perhaps your own preferences, prejudices, ego, hang ups, etc,...that is the cause of why you feel negatively about your experience with it. Who is the Falun Organization? Admittedly I've never had anything to do with a Falun Gong organization or anything like that. Don't you make your own decisions about things though? Why do you really care what anyone says about you? I've never seen such a thing myself. All I ever saw was people practicing in parks, and meditating for hours outside embassies.
  19. Falun Dafa thread - open discussion...

When I looked into this issue, I found these claims to be inaccurate descriptions of the beliefs of this system. The fact is, a lot of Chinese people are less progressive, and hold prejudices many peolpe today dislike and see as outdated and wrong. It is not so uncommon to hear about a Chinese family that disowned their son or daughter for marrying a White man or woman. What I found in Falun Gong, is that it eliminates all of these prejudices. Anyone can practice, and anyone can marry anyone in Falun Gong. With Falun Gong, there are no more excuses for prejudices. Getting to Know Falun Gong: Marvellous Connection to Chinese Culture for an American Couple Although the environment changed, her seeking of spiritual relief became stronger. She described that feeling - to seek for that feeling is just like finding a home, the final destination, and the place where one feels very comfortable. She discovered that the majority of priests and ministers did not put their hearts into the teachings of conventional religions. Falun Gong puts an end to Prejudice, in Chinese poeple, and all people....yet you blame it for the problem that it is in fact curing. When I looked into Rick Ross what I found out is that he is not in the mainstream when it comes to Cult experts, and his views go against what acredited and educated Cult experts say. He is a psuedo-cult expert, who clearly misrepresents some things, and is not unbiased. Kenneth Roth Dir. of Human Rights Watch agrees with the human rights community, Falun Gong can not be considered a Cult- http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7992170078946426845# Here is a documentary with Canadian cult experts explaining why Falun Gong is not a Cult- http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4839951926874847556# This practice of qigong should not be considered a cult. Legitimate experts and professionals say it is not a cult http://clearharmony.net/articles/200203/3761.html also http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2001/6/29/11785.html and- http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2000/7/30/7566.html more- http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2004/12/3/55206.html Here is some info so you can understand the subject- http://en.epochtimes.com/news/5-6-18/29565.html So when it comes to this particular system of Chi Gong, Falun Gong, the obvious thing to do if you are interested, is to go to the source and find out for yourself. See what it says for yourself and see if it really is in alignment with the rumors, second hand claims, chinese propaganda, and words of illegitimate pseudo-cult experts. I found that it is not. Disclaimer, the preceding post is only my understanding interpreted through my human mind, it is not intended to be taken as an absolute truth in any manner whatsoever.
