Statement from The Venus Project ---------------------------------- The Venus Project Perspectives on the Occupy Wall Street and Occupy Together movements by The Venus Project - Global on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 11:49am The Venus Project realizes the significance of the Occupy Wall Street and Occupy Together movements and offers a positive solution for their grievances. We at The Venus Project fear that any acquiescence to the protestor’s demands will do very little if the processes that cause the problems are left in place. In this case whatever laws or regulations are made will be eventually bypassed or overturned and conditions will revert back. This has almost always been the situation historically. We are concerned that meeting the demands of the protestors while keeping the current economic system in place will not have the desired outcome. It will merely serve to temporarily pacify those who are abused and rightly angry. This will not solve the problems but will prolong them. When force does not work and superficial fixes (laws) are put into place without addressing the underlying problems, then no effective remedy will occur. It is the monetary economic system itself that is the root cause of these problems. Greed, corruption, and war are inevitable byproducts of the monetary system. We maintain an obsolete economic system that has been handed down to us from centuries ago. It has never been just or equitable, nor can it be. The main aim of the monetary system is wealth, property, and power. This results in everyone being out for themselves. Our current circumstances are merely the evolution of a monetary-based system. It generates scarcity, poverty, aberrant behavior and the accumulation of wealth at the expense of others and the environment. The main aim is not the well being of the environment or people. Is it any wonder that most of the money is usurped by 1% of the population? The wealthy buy and control the politicians, courts, judges, media, police, entertainment, and even the universities. They set the agenda and the laws for their own advantage. It is the taxpayers who pay the salaries of the police while they work for the wealthy (who pay very little taxes) to violently put down peaceful protestors who threaten the status quo. Those in positions of advantage will not yield their control willingly. Calls for stopping wars seems to be a fruitless plea when there is so much money to be made from them. Peace is the brief interval between wars. We have many real problems as a human species, but wars should not be one of them. Wars are the supreme failure of inadequate social structures. Conflicts must be expected when people have unequal access to goods and services. Some say we should elect more “ethical” people to government. It is not ethical people we need but the intelligent management of Earth’s resources for the benefit of all. Anything less will revert back to the same problems we face today. If we wish to put an end to wars, greed, and corruption, we must come to understand that the real culprit is the monetary system itself and the values it generates in order to perpetuate itself. It values competition rather than cooperation. People are pacified with the notion of “freedom”. As Jacque Fresco says, “one is only as free as their purchasing power”. Concepts of “individuality” keep people divided. It puts the blame on individuals rather than the system that has failed them, whether it is going abroad for cheap labor or automating to maintain a competitive edge. However, you are brought up with the propaganda that you are to blame, not the environment. This is not the case. There is an alternative. The Venus Project calls for a total redesign of society where human rights are not merely paper proclamations but a way of life. A society can be designed where war and want are distant memories. All people need clean air, water, food, a relevant education, and the necessities of life. This is now possible if we update our social systems as we have updated our technologies. We are not separate from nature and must live within the carrying capacity of our planet’s resources. This can be accomplished by applying the methods of science to the way we live with the main aim being the wellbeing of all the world’s people and the protection of the environment. Seth, Glad to hear you are making a contribution to this event. Has there been any talk of The Zeitgeist Movement in regards to the "occupy" event? There is some talk of it online....was wondering about Australia though.

OK ... Ya got me> How about this though..... The current "occupy wall street" and other "occupy" events are being influenced by the very things I'm talking about with things like "The Zeitgeist movement" and the resource based economy featured in the "Venus Project". People want change. As long as money can buy power, there will be no real change. The entire economic model needs to be replaced. The Resource Based Economy Idea is one that needs real, worldwide, consideration.

Watched the 2 videos of kids acting foolish after being stoned.... Not sure what relevance this has to the subject at hand... Would you like to discuss what you think those videos mean in regards to the Venus project or future earth societies? Curious....

Maybe this "occupy Wall street" mentality is what we need to kick some real changes into being? Seems like there is so much apathy in regards to what we do as single people out in the wilderness. Changing people's perceptions is the beginning of actual, physical change taking place in the world. Change your mind, and the world will follow.

Exactly....who owns who? To say we own something on this earth is silly. We are meant to be caretakers for those that come after us.

Michael.... When you bought your guns, how many times did you pay for them? Do you keep paying for them tear after year? When something is "purchased" it is paid for 1 time, taxes and all, at that point you have true ownership. Land, and homes, do not meet this standard of "purchase". Anything that you say you "own", would not have taxes to be paid on it year after year for your entire life. You are sadly mistaken if you believe you "own" land. Try not paying your taxes on it for a year or two, and then tell me again that you "own" it. Guns..big deal. what's a gun compared to an Idea that changes minds?

This sounds very paranoid to me. Please try to understand...we do not own land, no own actually owns any land. As long as we pay taxes on something every year, and if we do not and it can be taken away, then what do you really own? The only thing you really own...is your body. The Native Americans had the best idea about land, the land is our mother, it is she that owns us. We live such short lives, how to compare to the timescales of geology? If you think the Venus Project is a bunch of B.S., that's your right. But also remember something vitally important. It is the dreamers and the Idealists that create the future societies. If while living in a box, you can never imagine what is beyond what you have experience with, in that box you will remain.

To say he was a visionary..is to say to little. For a single person to touch the world and leave such an indelible mark, this is the stuff of myth. He will be remembered, for everyday we use the gifts of his genius in our everyday world. Steve Jobs...where ever you may be, you are now truly one with everything. Hate to throw it out there but here it is... The Venus Project/ Zeitgeist has nothing to do with any kind of barter system. Goods would be the right of everyone. Food, shelter, education all part of living in a civilization... that's "civilized", would be essentially free. Free because the benefit to society out weighs the detriment of the lack of these things that are necessary to all human beings. Not sure who started this "barter" line...but make no mistake the Venus Project is not about barter. Its about equality and whats beneficial to all mankind.
