  1. Interesting meanings behind your name, and your command of knowledge of the Tao Te Ching is most impressive sir. And thank you very much Da Le for expanding my knowledge on the one I have chosen. :)

    Shen

  2. Another note about me and the name Shen is that I've felt a resonance with that name from the first day that I heard it, it speaks to me on some level though I'm not sure what that might be. My guess would be that it could be the true name of my soul though I'm not really certain.

  3. I used to live in St. Helens myself, was a small town when I was there. Now I'm in another small town, Vanderhoof is pretty tiny. Anyways thanks fo the positive thoughts, every little bit helps. The Shaolin believe that all movement and exercise is meditation so I'll do the same for you with what I'm going to do, I'll wish you success too in my meditations. :)

  4. Oh and I was born in Las Vegas, but was adopted and went to Oregon when I was only 10 days old. I moved to Canada with my elderly adopted mother just before I turned 6 years of age.

  5. You make a good suggestion, I've been considering such a DVD player for some time but have been putting it off to buy other things lately. I'll have to get one sometime soon for sure though.

  6. Only the Shaolin Workout is in the R1 format. However some of his new higher level DVD's are R0 for all region. But anyways that is why I chose the external part first.

  7. I Live in the states and he lives in the UK so this is definately a distance learning venture.

Should have the DVD's in a week or two and then I can get started. The curriculum is called Shaolin Warrior, and I am starting with the external portion he labels the Shaolin Workout. The internal is the Way of Qigong series which covers the forms I mentioned.

  8. My actual name is James to be honest. I just thought Shen sounds cool and I knew the one meaning of "spirit" but I had no idea of the other two, cool. :) Oh and I'll be happy to keep you posted on my progress and yes there is some qigong later in the curriculum, the ones taught are Ba Duan Jin, Xi Sui Jing and Yi Jin Jing. I'm doing this through DVD's by Shifu Yan Lei.

  9. Was thinking of taking up Flying Phoenix Qigong but decided to postpone that and take up Shaolin Gongfu for the time being to prove to myself that I can be dedicated to something, enough so that I can dedicate myself to the rigors of any system of Qigong or Gongfu.

I understand perfectly, thanks for giving me an idea of what it's like Sifu Garry. I certainly have my work cut out for me but I won't be detered, I'm going to give it all I've got. To be perfectly honest I never expected a picnic though. Warmest Regards, Shen
  11. Yeah dragons are cool indeed and actually in the chinese zodiac I'm a dragon and the saying I've read is that dragons were always rather lucky, I can attest to that as my luck has been good for about 80% of the time.

Thank you very much Sifu Garry and your more than welcome. I understand the implications that kung fu entails and have a good idea of what I'm getting into, truthfully I've wanted to learn it since I was only around 8 or 9 but never found what I'd call an adequate means to study it on my own until just recently, I had found that as I read more and more I eventually discovered that the appropriate means to learn it was always right under my nose, I was just simply too immature and perhaps too fanatical earlier on to realize it. For me the kung fu practice is to first empower my physical body and after that I plan to take it to a more spiritual level. I will gladly keep everyone posted on my progress. I'll be putting in my order for the neccessary study materials in just a few days and then It'll be time to get started. Best of luck to everyone on their training and I will work as hard as I can on mine. Warmest Regards, Shen

Thank you very much for that reply, that gives me a lot of hope as to what I can do in the future with enough training and hard work. You Sifu Garry and Sifu Terry have got to be the most open minded people I've seen online when it comes to this and for that I'm greatful and can only imagine that your students must have great skills indeed. Teachers of your quality are indeed hard to come by, Grandmaster Doo Wai really knows what he's doing when he certifies a teacher if I do say so myself. Warmest Regards, Shen

Thank you kindly Sifu Garry, I appreciate this bit of history you've shared. I'm a bit reclusive and am not really a traveller, truthfully my travel papers expired ages ago so these DVD's that act as distance courses and these forums with all these nice people on it are the best I can do for my life situation. I may not reach the highest level of skill but I have hope that I will be able to do fairly good at least through a lot of study, training and good old fashioned hard work. Truthfully I've always believed that with enough hard work one can achieve anything. Oh and is practicing the kung fu first as a warm up then the meditations second after my body has been woken up a good workout plan, or should I reverse that? again any thoughts are apreciated. Warmest Regards, Shen
  15. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung

Actually I haven't begun just yet, I planned to start them both at the same time, I found a distance course to learn through, from a Sifu Sam Chan, Small Tiger is indeed where his curiculum starts however. Thank you Sifu Garry for your most valued input, this puts my mind greatly at ease. Warmest Regards, Shen

I have a somewhat different question from my previous ones. I intend to learn the beginning portions of the Flying Phoenix meditations but I also want to learn a kung fu style called Jow Ga. My question is that since Jow Ga has a physical strengthening qigong called Iron Wire (taken from Hung Ga actually) built into it's curriculum, will the two conflict energeticly? I'm just curious because I don't want to get my wires crossed here. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out here. Shen

Yes indeed, good luck to you Sifu Dunn. I've learned a valuable lesson from your example, I think I'll keep my works to myself and not make any proposals to the big guys in the future. I think I'll also self publish my work at that. Nice to know these things while I'm still young. Oh and thanks for the additional reply, I intend to start with the first two DVD's in your series and just build on it from there, I figure that should give me a good starting foundation. I'll be putting in the order later this month and I'll keep everyone posted on whatever gains I make. Warmest Regards, Shen

Thank you very much Sifu Dunn, was worth a shot to ask at any rate or so I figured.
  19. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung

Interesting suggestions, thanks guys. I'll see what I can find.

Just curious but has anyone had any luck on correcting myopia(nearsightedness) or other sight problems with these meditations? Just curious as I've had myopia for many years and know several other people with issues in their vision such as hyperopia(farsightedness) and cataracts. I've also had issues with my sinuses for years so could it possibly help with that? My thanks to anyone in advance. Shen P.S. Happy new year of the rabbit Sifu Terry...
  21. Cool, I'll be starting that system soon too, from what I read of it, it looks awesome... :D

  22. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung

A good enough answer for me. this help's me greatly not only to make a decision on what type of technique I want to practice but also on a life style decision too. Thank you very much, I appreciate your most humble input. I believe I'll order the first two DVD's that make up the basic level after February 11th (mom's credit card bill cuts off that day, lol.) and get cracking. Oh and grats on 56 years of life Fu Dog, I'll be 23 in april myself. Oh and while I'm here I'll say to Sifu Terry, all the best on the legal work as I know that's always a real pain in rear. (I'm no lawyer either, lol.) Shen

A question to any who are willing to answer and I'm not sure if this has been asked already... But has anyone ever used these meditations to generate the neccessary qi to enter the astral plane?, I know relaxation is important but I read that to make it that much easier a good wellspring of spiritual energy helps maintain ones form in that plane as well. This is just a curiousity of mine as I've always been fascinated by that realm, mainly just as a means of learning more about oneself and the world, and I've been trying to find a way to generate the neccessary power to achieve this end. Anybody? My thanks in advance, Shen
  24. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung

Just curious but is there a difference between Sifu Terry's Flying Phoenix and Grandmaster Doo Wai's Flying Phoenix? If so then what differences are they? Sorry if those questions come off as offensive, if so then I apologize right now. I'm just curious to know is all. James V. Horner
  25. Hello everyone :)

Hello everyone, James here. I'm happy to be joining the forum and to start things off I have a question. Can the Flying Phoenix Qigong system be practiced along side Xingyiquan or Baguazhang? Will there be energy conflicts cause by differences in styles? Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed light on this, I just don't want to mess my body up beyond repair is all. James
