Hello all, Can you recommend books in this particular genre? Also a little note on why you liked them? I've read a couple of them: The Snow Leopard by Peter Matthiessen, Beyond the Sky and the Earth by Jamie Zeppa, Couple of Pico Iyer, A horrendous book called Don't Fall Off the Mountain by Shirley Maclaine and starting The Gods Drink Whiskey. Can you add more to the list, please? Thanks

Hi Aaron, You should read this book, No way for the Spiritually Advanced by Ram Tzu. I read it again just yesterday after 7 years. I always thought this book had a way of cleaning the ego within me. Hi TGF, I don't for a moment believe you'll find love on internet dating sites. I've seen friends get into a constant circle of drama which lasts from a day to three months. I get bored simply listening to their stories. And often wonder how do they have the courage to actually put themselves through it again, and again. I also believe what a better thing to do is address the issues which are perpetuating you to find a partner. Loneliness? Boredom? Then addressing those will be far great option than getting a partner. Sometimes deep relationships simply happen, without you doing nothing. Depending on what frequency you vibrate at you'll find someone exactly like you. So if you want someone better, stop a moment - work on yourself and see what comes before you again. Also why bracket in your mind that you want a Taoist or a cultivator? You begin to give the Universe lesser options. Or your thinking comes in the way of what the Universe actually wants to give you - which could be far better than what you want. A lot of knowledge is available so easily at this point. So you'll find a lot of guys saying/speaking things which will wow you. But do you want to be married to that? Just listen to your heart. It can take a long time till you successfully learn to listen to it.

Hello Below text is about Ramana Maharshi. This has fascinated me for a long time. How could someone reach so deep within himself to be Enlightened just contemplating death. It sure it takes a great being to do that. Thankfully they left us reference points. Depends how we use it to our advantage. In his seventeenth year, in full health and in normal waking state he was suddenly overwhelmed with the fear of death and fully convinced that death was imminent. The inexplicable feeling would not leave so the boy began to ponder on the meaning of death. He was alone in his upper story room at the time so he decided to act out death and inquire into the meaning of it. He laid down with his arms stiffly at his sides as if dead, held his breath and said to himself; "Now death has come but what does it mean? What is it that is dying? The body dies and is carried off to the cremation ground and reduced to ashes. But with the death of the body, am I dead? Am I the body? This body is now silent and inert but I feel the full force of my personality and even the voice of the 'I' within me, apart from the body. So I am the Spirit transcending the body. The body dies but the spirit that transcends it cannot be touched by death. That means that I am the deathless Spirit". The awareness of this knowledge took full possession of him, not at the level of mere mental awareness but at the deeper level of complete spiritual self-awareness. He suddenly became the Spirit and knew himself as That, no longer identifying himself as merely the body form that had been called Venkataraman. Good list. Add patience and the ability to keep your mouth closed. Men require a lot of patience if they have to feel grounded, as women are gifted with a lot of emotions she can easily make a man not sure enough about himself feel the ground below him move. So stay quite - let her speak, scream, or play the quite game. Just hold her when she allows you in her territory again. Overtime with your support she'll display lesser negative emotions. Another important point for a man is to be grounded navel downwards. Root Chakra corresponds to owning Land (house), Sex Chakra to having a faithful partner and navel to the ability to feed oneself, so food. These three things in place and a man will be pretty well grounded. And a well grounded man is pretty successful with women. -
There is something happening all the time. There is a certain guy here who said there are huge wars in the astral plane happening all time. It's good we can't sense them. Why do you say so?

What's the first obstacle for a beginner in meditation?

I think sometimes it does an aspirant good to have people tell them they are going the right direction. It could be another spiritual friend or a mentor. So in my opinion the biggest obstacle is not knowing if you are moving along in the right way. But off course like someone mentioned in the thread it's first making it to the cushion.
