There has been some discussion on Qigong [i mean energy work or willful moving of energy], its need or lack of it when compared to Stillness meditation etc. in the past. This question is mainly for those from Master Nan's school who think stillness meditation is simply sufficient as one of the lower stages of meditation involves opening of all chi channels. Anyone here, who has been only practicing stillness meditation or more of it, would like to comment? - As the practice opens the energy channels, does it bring in the health benefits of Qi Gong as well? Are Zen monks physically healthy as well? There was some discussion on this at my local Buddhist study group but there seemed to be no concrete answers regarding the explicit health benefits or healing, which has been demonstrated through Qigong.

Only Stillness Meditation anyone?
SiliconValley replied to SiliconValley's topic in General Discussion
Thanks mwight. Like I stated above, I have read the "best thing to do is do both" thingie and accept it. But I was interested to know how those sticking to stillness alone fare in the physical health department. Yours seems to be an experiential statement than a picked up quote. Thank you -
Really a basic practice and there are better stuff available in this genre. Not sure how much his tape costs but I would not pay more than 5 bucks for it. May be useful for newbies but not of much use IMO.

Thanks ... found it useful....in spite of the length

Ok Tao meows at YMWong, YMWong shouts back and meow purrs back! We've seen both do this earlier, but can this be done with some amount for respect for each other? If one does not agree with another, why cannot it be stated with a little more respect? Justing thinking it loud... Anyways, keep it coming meow ... if that helps anyone

Chi Power Plus claims to impart one with the ability to move stuff with Qi etc., something like the John Chang stuff. It even has a 90-day money back guarantee http://www.chipower.com/products.php

Very easy to learn from the video and less chance of making mistakes... And of course.....exercises are very effective ... I have also liked Flying Phoenix Chi Kung by Terence Dunn.

Silly, if you pick a random example such as this. Any decent book on linguistic studies in East Asia or Indology can be referred to find even the specific example on the word nibbana, its origin from the Sanskrit word nirvana, its root/dhatu etc. Its no kan and li requiring brain stuff to decipher So?

Not true! Samadhi in real sense is Laya or complete dissolution. What is there to concentrate on afer dissolution? Well, ha ha! Even the word nibbana is a corrupted form of its Sanskrit predecessor Nirvana, which comes mainly from the Yogic tradition. Ok! Jesus is the only way to salvation ... Which Samadhi are you talking of? Sabija, Nirbija, Salamba, Niralamba, Savikalpa, Nirvikalpa, Kevala, Shakta, Unmani....? There are differences among these states and there is a varying level of duality in some, but the purpose of none of these is really attainment of Siddhi. Buddha did teach Vipassana but was that not simply a re-packaging of the Hamsa Upasana or Sakshi Bhava Dhyana discussed and practiced for hundreds of years [as supplementary techniques] before the origin of Buddhism by adherents of Monism, Yoga and Tantra? The same can be seen extensively with Mantras, Mandalas, iconography, names of deities etc. It is better to appreciate the uniqueness of various techniques without getting into comparison or competition, especially in cases such as these ...
