  1. [TTC Study] Chapter 77 of the Tao Teh Ching

人之道 Taking the context from the MWD B script of the text from chapter 81; this can slightly change the context we view the Way of Man in this chapter. In my opinion, the context of this chapter shifts slightly. As to relationship of Man and Heaven. The Way of Heaven reduce the abundance and nourish the lacking. The Way Man reduce that of himself (lacking) and nourish the all under Heaven (abundant). The Man can't reduce the great to serve the small, it is not in Man's place. Something along this line
  2. [TTC Study] Chapter 81 of the Tao Teh Ching

Well presented, Lienshan. Clearly received. Informer, I revisit the Way of Man; 人之道. The context is a little different than we have discussed. But there's a logic that can be apply for the through out the TTC.
  3. Hello...

Hi Padma Norbu, The rules required you to post here first. Welcome to the Tao Bums
  4. Hello;

    Thank you...

    wellness to you :D

  5. Question for Buddhists

Six Realms of Existence Good and Bad fruits of Greed Anger Delusion Buddhist say that all state of thoughts can be attributed to one or more of this roots. Six Realms of Existence are comparisons for the state of thoughts. So tell me, from the formless; one can think of myriad things. How many thing can you think in this moment?
  6. [TTC Study] Chapter 81 of the Tao Teh Ching

We could also use Lienshan's favorite remarks. Objectivity and Subjectivity
  7. Boundless lesson

Hey! Stop teaching us ways to be attractive to womenz. And Where is the comic version? Just for you pleasure: Here's what you may like, some member posted it on the forum before: Cow Teh Ching Remember that the Taiji is just a Taiji. It may have 4 parts but it's just a Taiji.
  8. [TTC Study] Chapter 81 of the Tao Teh Ching

@Lienshan and Chidragon Do you think 人之道 (the way of man) worth revisiting in other chapters as well?
  9. [TTC Study] Chapter 81 of the Tao Teh Ching

    Hi Jeff, I merely used the same word as the translator; you can replace 'not contending' with 'not interfering'. I think the feel of the translations would still be similar. And hence same question, with the Sage is one with the Dao; how can the Sage interfere? If the Dao doesn't. If he interferes, he is already not with the Dao. If he contends, he is already not with the Dao. So how does one be with the Dao? How can he be called a Sage? Maybe the fool can be called 'XieJia" Be Mindfully forgetful;

They work wonders; I am lucky to have met some of people with similar healing capabilities. Keep us update and do tell me the expression of the conventional doctors' face when they hear your stories. Enjoy China for us, Tao Bums.
  11. [TTC Study] Chapter 81 of the Tao Teh Ching

@Sinfest; If you are still keen on drawing comic stripes. I think Visual illustration of Dao De Jing would be a good project. Just don't forget me when you are rich Here another Translation worth mentioning. William Scott Wilson from the text that migrate to Japan. Reliable words are not attractive; Attractive words are not relaible. Good people do not quibble; Quibblers are not good people. The knowing are not know-it-alls; Know-it-alls are not knowing. The sage does not hoard: As much as he does for the sake of others, He himself has all the more at hand. The Way of heaven clears the ground for cultivation and does not hinder. The Way of the sage is to act but not contend.
  12. [TTC Study] Chapter 81 of the Tao Teh Ching

Then it must be easy for the generalizations with you and the Generalizations must have like you a lot!. Marble, I do agree. The first six lines talks about the innate nature of manifested things. The later lines could also take the same logic; it is through acting for others and not for themselves. Thus the Way provides for them. The Way of Heaven doesn't harm them. and summarizing The Way of Sages is to act without contending. So the uses of the first six is: To highlight the polarity of Acting for oneself and acting for others. Or it could also be look this way: about 'not contending'. Beautiful words contends; true does not. Arguing contends, knowing does not. Scheming contends, wisdom does not. The Sage act for others, the sage doesn't need to accumulate and this is why the Sage always have enough. Without contending, the Sage also doesn't provoke that of Heaven. Be Well,
  13. Another generic "Hello" thread

Welcome Muqtada, welcome to the Tao Bums family. That's nice of you to share your story. I'll look toward to read your posts on the forum.

It's natural, we are humans after all. Marblehead is actually doing a very good job in his way. And I think everyone in the TTC forum is very friendly. I would tend to agree with Scotty though. There's really no need for you to step down or give up your moderating; maybe you can give up the giving up. Either way, All the best . We are finishing TTC anyway, I think it will be nice if you and Marble could say something to wrap up the TTC studies. Although we will find ourself referring to TTC again and again in the future. Lets jump right in and don't look too much . I do actually would like to see Sinfest and his comments, if not I'll wait for his personal practice thingy. All Good.
  15. [TTC Study] Chapter 81 of the Tao Teh Ching

Thomas Cleary's [81] True words are not beautiful, Beautiful words are not true. Experts do not argue; the argumentative are not expert. The knowledgeable are not generalist; generalists are not knowledgeable. Sages do not hoard; since they act for others, they themselves have more and more. Since they give to others, they have increasing abundance. The Way of Nature helps and does not harm; the Way of Sages is to act without contention.
  16. [TTC Study] Chapter 77 of the Tao Teh Ching

There are many arts that the modern medicine do not see. May I ask whether he did it through just massage? All the Best David,
  17. Taoism and Karma

@Kali May I ask you to read about 'Wuwei' up? Or look at chapter 2 or discussion we have here on chapter 74, 77, of the Dao De Jing. There are particular reason to why the Daoist cultivate virtue through Wuwei. From my limited perspectives; The Taoist text didn't mentioned the Concept of 'Karma' But the practice of cultivating virtue through the way is in itself breaking the link. All the best to everyone.
  18. Taoism and Karma

Ok, my bad; apologies. My friend. Sorry. Lets leave Buddhism out of this; I think we should just get back on Kali's question. @Marblehead You are the clever one here. Don't let me find you hehehe.
  19. Taoism and Karma

@Chidragon I don't doubt your understanding of Daoism, but I think it will also be nice if you would try to understand the Buddhist more in this matter; if we are not careful some might taken offense. As a Daoist, I don't think we could claim any superior of the Way. For the Way nourishes all things. -------------- Guides to Karma/ Cause and Effect of two paths The Buddhist's Path; Accept good seeds, Reject planting the bad ones, Accept Bad fruits as lessons, Reject getting stuck on the Good fruits. Becomes Buddhas through wisdom of accepting and rejecting. The Daoist's Path; Accept bad seeds, Accept good seeds, Accept good fruits, Accept bad fruits. Becomes Immortals through wisdom of accepting. --------------- Any mistakes is my own. All be Well...

I actually like Sinfest doing his thing; plus it will distract him from having too much tea. @Aaron I joined the TTC discussion a bit later, haven't have a chance to know you properly. I guess I wasn't here when the problem occurred and don't know too much about it. But I don't know whether you doing this will address the real problem. Anyway, hope things are treating you well.
  21. Most important question

Agreed K, I also agree to your thread above. In my limited experience, the question is in itself the answer. Once we break the chains, such questions needs no answering. I think I can relate this to what you said nicely in the other post 'Wei Wu Wei.' Well, I will stop now. Take care all of you, Enjoy the your sunday.
  22. Most important question

    I am the question.
  23. [TTC Study] Chapter 80 of the Tao Teh Ching

Anyone else see anything else here? in chapter 80.
  24. Suffering and desire

No passing, No failing. Desiring not desiring is not an end to itself. Emotion is natural, feeling is natural; don't try to throw them away. No think, no suffering. Take things slowly, experience everything right now with each breath . You are alive. Just do whatever you can for now. Be Mindfully Well
  25. Taoism and Karma

Interestingly Karma in Sanskrit actually means 'Action'. be mindfully forgetful XJ
