Looks like it's cosy in here. Perhaps... We should let the world see itself.

Glad to hear; May I make a small suggestion, Maybe if you understands what we could take on after we die; then your cultivation would be easier. Well that actually depends on what you believe as well. All the best, Judo! Hope you get what you seek.

Dear Informer, I was 18 - 19, and it was a part of something like a Repentance ceremony. I was a reckless Child by then but in that act of bowing to my mom's feet, I first realized that this body was given to me by them, was fed, and rise by them whole hearty. And I realize how my previous life-style wounds that Body, this mind and this spirit and wounds what is given to me by them. From that day, I try my best to take care of the body, mind and spirit and changed my ways. As to your question about Qi or energy, true; sometimes when the act is done earnestly. Either when you do it in front of Buddha, Deities, Sages, Parents or Martial Arts Teacher and their lineage. You received the Blessings of those we see and don't see. But energy are just temporary, they comes and go and it's not anyone's. What's important is how one use it to follow the way. when we look, hear, or point at others; what is it that we really see, hear or who are we really pointing at? @Aaron I agree wholly with your statement. There are those who practice compassion sincerely without being aware of it. By talking about it, it might be possible that people misunderstood for what it is. XieJia

Hi Judo, You said you want to learn about Qi Cultivation, may I ask why? What do you think you will get through understanding it? What is it that you want to achieve? What is it about Life that you want to know so much about?

I like your translation Goowday. Do you know that MH really likes people putting 'Chapter' on top of their translation?

Yang on the inside, Yin on the outside; If Yang on the Outside, it's a lesser and not eternal Yang and will not stands That is to go against that of the Heaven's. Therefore the sayings, 'Straight trees gets chop down, sharp edge get blunted.' Is it something along these lines?

So What does Tao say about attachment/desire
XieJia replied to taowanderer's topic in Daoist Discussion
Thank you for sharing and the story. -
no need to ask no need to tell the fishes swim in water, the bird flies in the sky. Moving in within stillness, sounds in within silences. Forms are out of the formless. go back within, come out without. Just don't be partial and emphasize too much on the within or without. What is more than real? Is that false or is it real? How is the false, real? How is the real, false? Who could ask that question? no need to ask no need to tell

Dear Informer, Thank you for sharing too From my humble experience, this can occurs through any practices when done with sincerity. I am not sure how well I understood it or how to explain it. I do believe what happened to be the energy centers of the body synchronizing according to their functions/vibration. It has many health benefits but I don't think we can actually call any of that its utility. The Body becomes one, One can nurture the mind. I don't think you misunderstood anything, and I think the thing you mentioned comes next as you said. Love, XieJia

Dear Arab, I am sure other Bums will have pretty to share. From the viewpoint of humble my experience; I would say that moment you have went into a more profound and serene state of samadhi or concentration than that of what you normally experienced, going into the state of Bliss. If any other times, you started to see visions like a running film; please don't give it to much attention. Don't get distracted by the toys. If any other times where you didn't get to see the lights and witness the surge throughout your body, don't worry about it. The sensation comes in many forms. Let there be just seeing and witnessing . I hope this helps, but they are just from my experiences and my understanding. I am sure other Bums have pretty to share. Love, XieJia

Dear Bubbles, It is not only Mister Li Jiong, I wanted to save. I am sure this is Cat's and Sinfest's and many others' purpose all well. We can only saves ourselves from our own judgements, whereby we saved ourselves. I tried to save myself and am saving myself right now. And thus Dao save the world . All Good, XieJia

Nice post you have here Belle. Abit long though I would agree to certain extent with Sinfest. The Way is straight and wide, let go off all the notions and the sayings; they are just guidelines. Whether in Buddhism or Daoism; everything comes back to the Breaths, to life, to this very moment. Take a few breaths and enjoy this very moment you are having... You will always have it until the very end, as much as me or any other beings. The answer is there. In the end, any choice you made is yours to bear; as well as the choice to bear the consequnces is also yours. Look into the mirror, out of all this commotions, notions. Who do you see? Who is the one that sees? Isn't it time for you to come back to your own true nature? No matter what decision you take, May you find the answers you seek. May you be with the Dao and before all the Buddhas. May you and your decisions alway rings true. I am sure all of the Bums are with you on this

Wot! So what Everything said is actually within ourselves. Hahaha, Kidding kidding. Well said my friends.

Li Jiong is not wrong. By understanding Daoism; we can save ourselves from the Chaos of the world, not letting the world affect us personally weighing us down. If we do this, the we would be saved from the world; the world would be saved from us. Strangely, Daoism can save the world without saving it.

Nice! Dawei, would you mind sharing how you would translate this chapter with us? Your way of looking at the first line brings out my curiosity. Thanks in advance. XieJia

@TzuJanLi , you reminds me of a inspirational figure. @Marblehead Almost funny? eh? Is there a way to make it funny by being silence? Well we'll see. Thus is what I heard; leave ourselves to ourselves, leave World to the World, leave Dao to the Dao. and All will be safe. impose ourselves on the World. The World on the Dao. the Dao on others then we can't save even ourselves. The Way is thus. Thus is what I heard.

I still can't strive far from the other translators on this one; any and all mistake is my own. The courage to die is much like the way to be vanquished. The courage to not die is much like the way to survive. This two like pairs; one beneficial, one harmful. In the place of Heaven that punishes, who knows the cause? (I think this line can be amend, there's deeper stuff in this line.) This is why the sages furthermore ponders. (Sage weighs the things out whether it is with the Dao, this is not in MWD*) The way of Heaven; does not contend so it surely overcomes, does not discuss so it surely commands, does not decrees so it surely goes itself accordingly, comes as one like good plan. (I used MWD text A and B ) Heaven's net big vast (This sounds good in my mother tongue ), lax but not neglect.

I agree with you here. I think your point is valid and coherent with what I think is Laozi's. So putting my English comprehension aside: You mean being unafraid is the standard of handling great distress?

I think 73 flows in smoothly after 72. To me there seem to be yin and yang to the type of qualities. If one use it for nurturing the self and other to establish something outside. And the Outside qualities is not enduring.

apologies, double posts.

@jeff this is interesting for me aswell; some of us tried to translate word by word from the Chinese text. From my point of view, I think it impiles that when people lack respect or fear of something, that act itself invite what they will utimately fear. For example when I lack fear of diabetes or other diseases, I ignore the care of my body and thus invite disasters to it. I think the first four lines used the same kind of logic. If people covet life, they also invite in where they will have to depart from it. If people detest what's given by birth, then they will never be satisfied anywhere they go. Therefore the way of not being detested is by not detesting. The sages knows oneself but does not parade; for parading invites competitions. love oneself but does not esteem self over others; for this invites people to do the same, the formed can be overturn by the formless cannot. The sage let go of the manifest and take the formless. This is the only way for me to see the logic of this verse as coherent. But so this is just my understanding.

Looking at text in Chinese, Let me try give a difference taste to the translation above. But still my English comprehension is not so good. People don't fear the powerful, for they see great powerful coming. (Death) Don't be too familiar with the waiting place. (Don't covet life) Don't detest the place of birth. (Don't detest what's given to you by birth) Only when People don't detest, for they wont be detested. (I think this is obvious) For the Sage knows of oneself but not display it over others. (Display is not quite the word but yeah..similar) Love oneself but not value himself over others. Thus is gaining the fruit and rejecting the harm.
