Primary and Secondary Enlightenment?
XieJia replied to Harmonious Emptiness's topic in Buddhist Discussion
oh, looks like you guys are having fun. some more question Xabir... What is the Middle way? How would you explain it? What is the Right View? How would you explain it? The Realisation of the two emptiness of self, does the realisation occur successively or instantaneously? Is the two emptiness of self the same or not the same? Is the state of Anatta in the two different or the same? If it is not so, why is such? What and where is Nirvana in the way that you perceive it? What is the Samasra? What is that stages of thusness that you mentioned are talking about? Are they the same as the stage of enlightenment? If not so then how many stages are there? I want just short answers, no need to go into too much details. @Sunya Thank you . I found it is easier to understand what you said. -
Lol , you are a lively one. As for the teacher's analogy; The looks, smells, tastes, textures is present at the moment. The Orange in the mind is the reflection of these things at the moment. Marble is merely stating... You might be recognising the interpretation or the reflection but not the source you are looking for It's easy to recognise the unnatural, not always so of the natural. Do fish think about how to swim? Bird about how to fly? The centipedes does not move its legs individually. It is their nature.

Thanks Dawei, direct to the point , imho Laozi and Zhuangzi viewed it from the Dao. Kungzi, Menzi, Xunzi viewed it from the Human within Heaven and Earth. Sounds to me that all is accord to the Nature, problems addressed in Zhuangzi is when people mistaken virtue and tries to apply others nature against their own.

Hey All . From reading many of your posts; I found there are many Buddhists here and it is heart-warming. And seems to me that Buddhism means different thing to different people. Maybe this is similar to "How you apply Buddhism to your life?"; but my question would be "How do you practice Buddhism?". This is merely a poll thread, so that we can learn more about each other and appreciate the our differences. So I think we should refrain from Teaching, Debating or Discussing here, although constructive comments would be welcomed. So lets start sharing. I hope this thread will help eachother see where eachother are coming from when talking or discussing in the future.

Hahaha, gotta admit they have spirit! Sometime they do a good job, sometime they don't. Normally I ask them to bring out my ego though, once done I bowed to them with thanks. So You could say that they are in a way Bodhisattvas . The Daoist and Buddhist are similar. Sometimes it's better to be called a Daoist, sometimes a Buddhist. Although I am raised through Buddhist traditions and I took refuge in the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha; there are still place for easy wandering for the they are vast. By entering the way, makes what's useful; fruitful. what's useless, fruitful. what's harmful, fruitful. That way, the walking is the way. Though no one is walking. Totally agreed with you about practice all day, and every moment. Like anyone else, there's still fetters to be unfettered. @Ambrose I would like to call myself a Mahayanist as well. Dunno if I could do so. @CowTao I think there are a lot of friendly Buddhists around.

To further what Marblehead stated, although the two types of knowledge differs. From my experience, They sometime come hand in hand.

So Laozi's De is the function in according to the Dao? Confucius's Xing is the heaven's allotted nature? Would Confucius's 仁心ren xin (Human-heartedness) be along the same line? As to be in accord with the Xing?

nice! so to say from Chinese school of Thoughts is the De 德 subjective or objective?

Hi Dwai, Thank you for the reply and the information. So to put it... Nirguna Brahman would be the formless, the collective with one and all. All other names whether any deities, man, plants or animals. From the sublime to the coarse. So for the advaitin If so Brahman, Vishnu and Shiva is the personification of the manifestation of the Nirguna Brahman on the phenomenal world much like the Daoist idea of the Dao nourish all. Could we say the three Deities are different collective functions of the greater Nirguna? So to say, nothing under anything can be separate? This is what I understood from reading your post and other sources. Thanks XieJia

nicely said. Thanks Ambrose. Samasra reflects itself in us, sentient beings. I don't know how to say more without being misunderstood or goes into error. I can only said what is not. "Samasra is not what is seems, Nirvana is not what is seems, 5 Skhanas not what is seems. Sentient beings not what is seems, Buddha not what is seems, Knowing not what is seems. so take off those shades and look inside/outside with a different light. everything not what is seems; nothing not what is seems. what is it? the seeing the seems. All the sutras said the same thing for different people with different tastes. the one sutra for you is here with your being. Looking inside to know outside, outside to know inside. there's no independent inside or outside. If you can make this the case then no matter where you aim, all arrows will hit the spot. Lest all is my imagination too, for without it what can be said. " Like Ambrose said, lets get it started. May the energy flows...

Meow, I would have use other word; using mind can be misleading but yeah lets stick with that for now. For easyness of understand; I will separate 'Knowledge' into two categories. One namely -> 'knowledge through the discriminations of the mind or the thinking and memories'; I would call it the discriminating mind -> this one people knows about and wont be discussed here. Two -> 'knowledge through feeling, realising, experiencing, seeing things directly from it nature without discriminating' -> Some people called it wisdom, panna, prajna and many other names: which is the roots of spiritual practices <- from my understanding it is this you want to talk and hear about. If it is this one then there are a lot of people here that could talk about it and share their experiences. In different cultures, there are also many names for the cultivation of it. Will join in a bit later .

Primary and Secondary Enlightenment?
XieJia replied to Harmonious Emptiness's topic in Buddhist Discussion
aha so one have to separates the object and subject? isn't the self-created by the separation? wouldn't the separation be empty that of self? it's parody of statement isn't it? knower, knowing and the known take out one where does the other goes? can emptiness, self, phenomena, form exist independently? this is my last attempt in understanding what you are trying to teach me; if not I will just give it up and get back to my thing of absurd moments. Don't worry too much though, I am sure you did your best to make me see. -

and what about the emptiness of self in the two emptiness? if there's still holding on to such notions, who is the person holding it? we might understood the same thing, but it's the limitation in language. or your realisation is by far greater than mine. -
Hi Meow, Welcome to the Tao Bums Interesting thread you have here, 'Knowledge'. Would you mind telling me first; Whether the feeling of the body outside or inside of mind? Whether the feeling of different sensations is inside or outside of mind? what and where is your mind? the meaning can be very ambiguous so would be nice to know first.

what you stated is all true, is true and no other than truth. I agree with you whole-hearty. Even us, we reflects upon eachother and a lot can be learn about ourselves by observing the self in others. What I was pointing out before, by enduring it and understand it we can reduce our ego. Use this as a reflection to take out what is excesses; I am not perfect myself but I will also use it to fill the lacking. By bringing it out, for we see ourselves in others. It is not the other that we can truly sees. Ignorance can fully knows ignorance, I can't see you as you can't see me without putting the selves in it. When there is no selves, there wouldn't be me or you. Like the two mirrors that reflects, even the mirror are no longer needed. Apologies for my word plays, for it is my fetters. But there is something that I wanted to point out that what one views as the ultimate truth or nirvana or enlightenment may not be what it seems. After we finished this, we can all laugh about it -
@Chidragon hahaha, when we understands it whole-hearty. We would practice it without needing it. @anamatva hahaha, no need to be sorry. I am just saying what I said so that other wont be afraid to express what practice of Buddhism is it they do. I could be said to be guilty of the same crimes. Different people like different fruits, different fruits suit their tummies. It is not that any better than other. filling of what is lacking, pouring out that of the excessed. our path can be different, how can one better the other? Our ignorance is ours own to solve, though the master may point. It is our own to undo. If anything please let me be the culprit of this thread. I can accept the role of being a fool on a throne pointing at stars, though it is not that the fool knows anything. If anyone have any suggestions or guidance pm me or anything, you have all my ears.

Sounds like a very sincere practices, filled with compassion and dedication. thank you for sharing. The thing you wrote about teachers and teachings are also very nice. Knowing and respecting the teachers and their teachings also have its merits. Not creating our own illusion and not to place self in that of the dharma also have its merits. Without the things left behind by Buddha or Laozi and any other masters; what do we have? There are so few that can see without any pointing (thus arise of these masters.) Being attached to the dharma obtained, our teachings or our teacher; is it different from being attached to earthly things, our teachers/teaching wouldn't want that. Therefore the Sage can enjoy the fruit of the two without suffering from it undoing. How it is so? They don't the self in that of the letting go and the teachings. Thus the Sage can enjoy, such is the middle path. It is not my intention to teach what 'I' know but I do think this is sometimes what the Western world lacks and many have been misunderstood, it is not that the East doesn't have a problem. I am not saying that I understands. So please read with a open mind and with it look within ourselves.

Thank you Very beautiful and sublime. @dwai Is it possible to explain the nature of Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva from the Vedantan's experience so that we all can understand more?

無有 有無 <....門....> --->道<--- Attention! Attention! Ignore this, another of my spams! -sigh... Why am I always guilty of such crimes.

@anamatva and informer (scratches head) (scratches bum) (scratches head again) should have known better than to post this question in the Tao Bums. ROFL some people rather do a handstand to point to heavens, headstand to point at earth. outside to the inside; inside to the outside. 好好, 非常好. I still like to know about others who defined themselves as Buddhist and would like to know their opinions. Some may walk forward by turning their backs to the world; Some may walk backwards by turning their faces to the world. What's the differences? there are those that still deserve respect. How dare you!!! I create a polling choice for you guys, you'd still come out to the open! Nvm, all is good; me too am guilty of the same. @Cowtao cheers @Jetsun (Jetsun, those words are deep. Direct to the heart, received with the heart) Thank you

thus is how the universe begun... thus is how it ends... all done before one could think 'in the begin...' wait... here it is again when one read each words. nah!!! lets make it to each letter. a...w...a...r...e...n...e...s...s...ahhh... .... If you are sane; please ignore my nonsense. dang! this looks like a spam isn't it?

and what would you like to see more here on the Buddhist subforum on the Tao Bums?

Thumbs up! So Laozi's world is the world while stating that the superficial is the superficial. Is it conveying same message from the other side? or is it the English comprehension again? i just feel like using this emoticon for no reason.
