Weird problem with URL's in messages sent from forums
Leif replied to Clarity's topic in Forum and Tech Support
Sendgrid is a mail sending service - I guess webmaster of thetaobums.com enabled it instead of standard mail hosted on own server. (In many cases it's beneficial to use third party mail sending service instead of your own server, for number of reasons.) Url encoding is likely one of the extra features they offer. Thing like that is useful for business owners to track clicks etc. It's just a redirect and leads to correct taobums page, if it doesn't work for you it might be due to your web browser config or some security software on your computer. -
Gary Hearfield: Hung Lung Hei Gung

Were chakras included in the original lineage transfer, or something that he added just to explain how it works in more accessible way? And is it really a purely taoist method? Just that it says "Wudang" doesn't mean much. (the Wu family lineage has Bon, Buddhist, even Indian teachings,.... )If you are interested in this, best ask sifu directly, he's accessible. If something is not covered in classic texts, it doesn't mean it can't be taoist. According to some there are more than thousand taoist schools/lineages each with own systems, specialties and flavors.

I might be wrong but I think reverse breathing is not covered.
-
I have used couple of mudras and jumper-cabling toes and fingers to deal with one-time emotional issues - stress etc. Just a few times, with good results I'd say.

Sifu Matsuo mentions waterfall meditation in his Youtube clips. Is that the one that has been taught as part of Kunlun?
-
It's backed up by real people, who have something to lose if it was BS. The downside being, only 1 DVD with the basics out. If you invest your time in a system like this, you have to pray that the teacher will improve his English and stay in some accessible place and doesn't return to hide in the China with the other masters.

Activating Kunlun Energy Without the Posture
Leif replied to Lucky7Strikes's topic in Daoist Discussion
I might be wrong since it's long time I watched the DVD, but I used to believe that Max actually described it in a little more detail than Jenny. I'm not aware of anything that Max skipped from Yigong. All that yigong level 1 is, you sit and let your body shake. Alright, you activate energy through palms on central channel, move heels up, "let it be", so there are some details, but it's all about "letting your body's natural intelligence do all the work" and not much involved in terms of "important techniques". -
Sifu Jenny said "this is all you need", regarding "level 1". Now...it's all up to you anyway...which of the practices fits what you need, which of the teachers and approaches they take is the match for you What you might need, before level 1, if you don't get spontaneous movements, is Jenny's additional practices on DVD or the Five elements qigong from Max. Though I figure other practices might work as well - incl. the celestial neigong you do.

You got this mixed up I think. Max Christensen is in more lineages, Chris Matsuo teaches in Wu family lineage. As for what the japanese master thinks about the origin of Bagua.... it depends who taught you - once you get into some bagua school you just say what your master said to you. It's legends. It can't be proved. It doesn't matter. Even various schools that claim bagua only started with Don Haichuan often can't agree on facts and it's only like 150 years since his era.

This board is full of accounts from his students - Terry Dunn, Gary Hearfield. Dan LaRochelle running http://www.whitetigerkungfu.com/ is pretty accessible to answer questions, and there is an obscure discussion forum if you search for GM Doo Wai on Google where you check with at least one or two other GMDW's students.

Activating Kunlun Energy Without the Posture
Leif replied to Lucky7Strikes's topic in Daoist Discussion
I believe you can get RP by Skype. No, it's completely different thing. Though it might be somewhat similar to RP (I believe that's what Trunk meant to say in his earlier posts where he was likening KYMQ to Kunlun). -
It's not 100% same but say 95%. Max goes into a bit more detail, but both are sufficient IMHO (in terms of learning the technique, as that alone is pretty simple).
-
Jenny Lamb's DVD is great but the spontaneous movement part alone is very simple, so if that was your only reason for getting it you can skip it. But sure it's worth every penny and more, so it's all up to what you are after. For example it has qigong designed to help you particularly in case you'll not be getting spontaneous movements. And her instructions I believe also slightly differ from those described by Max (but can't comment about his version in the latest Kunlun book as I didn't read it yet). 8 brocades is completely safe IMHO.
-
Likely the only reason to get the old book would be if someone for some reason wishes to practice the original follow-up levels after the spontaneous qigong practice aka level 1, as they were originally transmitted by his teacher. But for Kunlun practicing by the latest only makes sense.

Which of these authors is properly teaching meditation?
Leif replied to DreamBliss's topic in Group Studies
There are some solid free ebooks out there, too, http://sayadawutejaniya.org/teachings/ http://www.buddhanet.net/ http://www.buddhanet.net/xmedfile.htm eg. Sujiva's books then shamatha podcasts at http://podcasts.sbinstitute.com/ - full retreat audio freely available and this one is classics for Vipassana and short to it: http://archive.org/details/TheSatipatthanaVipassanaMeditation -
I don't think so. The book contains load of various techniquest, out of those 5 elements qigong is standing, but it's a side method. Kunlun 1 used to be seated exercise. I believe levels 1-3 were only included in first edition and the new book only has level 1. Level 1 instructions are fairly simple, can likely even be found somewhere on this forum.

check http://thetaobums.com/topic/17505-kunlun-book/page__st__48#entry350528 for a review of latest edition there is just one book, but there were maybe two or three editions not sure, and content differs (things changed, removed, added)

I'm not able to help you to separate the wheat from the chaff, but I'm sure most of them properly teach meditation the thing is just what type of meditation, towards which audience, and at which level they start and stop. Also the approaches differ, there are some good books that just talk around the stuff in 300 pages and give you the very basics which you still have to literally dig out from there, then there are some only 30 pages short where you get way more in terms of method and there's no fluff. And as everybody is different, some of us like the first and others the second type more. When I have recently went through selecting the source to start my meditation from, I first researched on differences between various schools (zen, theravada, mahayana, vajrayana, esoteric christianity, ...) to select the school. Even within the school the approaches differ and you might one one method more suitable for you than the other. -
Only official stamps are missing there: "Approved by EU and The Communist Party of China. Export only. " It's not bad. But not a thing that would address the "younger element chasing MoPai fairies".

Baguazhang for meditation: Frantzis, Mancuso, Matsuo / DGS, Yang Yusen
Leif posted a topic in General Discussion
I'm drawn into Baguazhang, but just for meditation purposes (or more exactly: meditation, qigong, aerobic exercise) at this point. On my shortlist to learn from is Bruce Frantzis (Bagua mastery online program, re-opening soon. Expensive.), Ted Mancuso (owner of plumpub, 2 DVDs, nice price and modular approach) Christopher Matsuo - Heart of Bagua (or is it with Ray Carbullido) Yang Yusen's gaobagua.net program seemed almost perfect too (especially as you are required to submit practice video for a check and feedback), but contemplating on whether it would be too disrespectful of me entering with intention to drop out at some point. Also Bingkun Hu has a bagua walking form out as part of Wild Goose Qigong series. Will appreciate any comments regarding the "Frantzis vs. Mancuso vs. Matsuo" choice, or even whether it's possible to learn the very basics from video. I have read here numerous times that it's not possible, my subjective understanding of those comments so far is that it's not possible to learn the art of baguazhang that way to which I concur. Yet what if we talk about very basics - circle walking, single palm change? If people like Frantzis, Matsuo, Mancuso, Bisio, Yang Yusen, and maybe others, don't just sell "demo DVDs" but actual "DVD courses", and sure they all say you should come for live training one day but none says you have to right from the start? (And yes I'll go learn with live teacher but that might take a year or two. But I need aerobic exercise right now and thought to kill two flies in one shot.) -
But that would be so boring. Work hard, make money, pay Gary Clyman (who isn't even hiding anywhere), train hard,..... Isn't Mopai dreaming more fun? Thank you for all the posts by the way.

That's VERY western way of thinking. Reminds of of the story where John Chang hurt the lady accidentally. It must have occurred to him he wasn't insured, that's why he freaked out right after. I can see how Taichi and Yoga studio teachers get their insurances. But MOPAI? But easy to find. Ask Naziri to give you email to Shifu Lin or buy one of the Lin's books to get the email then email him and ask that you'd like to pay $300 for lvl1 but wish to know first whether he's insured .

Seiko, I wonder why you didn't obey the request of your Grandmaster to boycott the Taobum forums and still visit and post here? I can take it that you are not another version of Lucas Huang on this forum but just sharing his blogspot account http://www.blogger.c...026257025252540 to blog with him (no matter that in similar situation most others use two individual accounts to run one blog, you guys found it better to share password and single account, power to you) but how you got a nerve to invite MPG is beyond me, you should do a bit of search on this forum on Lucas Huang and MPG. Your announcement that LH will be answering many questions is not exactly correct, he is "willing to answer any and all questions regarding the manual" - exact quote. The old same manual that MPG attempted to buy from him long ago. Yet you have a nerve to invite MPG over there. ROTFLMAO. For those who didn't register yet http://mopai.forumotion.com/ is run by Sifu Rel who is also visiting this forum: http://thetaobums.co...86177-sifu-rel/ and he posted the exercises for levels 1 to 5 (if any collector still doesn't have them on their file) So all those interested learning from Sifu Rel and GM Lucas Huang and boycotting Taobum forums, the link to click is yours.
