I perceive a trend toward Polls at the moment on the board, so I'm going with the flow, as I have no opinions about polls, particularly, one way or the other. AN OPINION POLL. How you feel around very opinionated people? a) Relaxed! Happy and Open! c) Great, it's a chance to voice my opinions. (I used to swap toy cars and go 'vroooom' with them, now I have opinions, so much more portable!) d) Bored with them. What does 'having opinions' do for you? a) make you believe you have a mind gives you a sense that you have discrimination, power, control over what comes at you c) gives you the opportunity to be strident when with others d) limits you to a stance What is an opinion? a) a small onion a cluster of adherences somewhat like plaque, but in the thoughts instead of the teeth c)a treasured possession that defines you and boosts your sense of self or even creates your identity d)a point of view that creates comfort, as a full stop creates comfort at the close of a sentence e) possibly a shallot

I do agree that knowledge is something quite different to wisdom. As different as peanut butter is to cheese. Yes, they both go nicely with crackers... but that's about it as far as similarity goes. However the process of acquiring knowledge can be part of the process of developing wisdom. Which is why I think we have to study a topic for ourselves and find the nuances for ourselves, and that the practise of asking a question and expecting to be spoon fed a definitive answer ( not suggesting that is happening in this thread) is counter productive to the getting of wisdom or understanding. Study provides an understanding of the underlying relationship between ideas and interpretations. Asking questions is a great way to get knowledge and wisdom, so long as you arent actually looking for answers, but are just looking for debate. The best educators dont give definitive answers. They ask questions to stimulate further questions, so that the student grows and develops, and the student finds his own answer. And with it, a bit of wisdom. The Socratic Method.

Hello, I havent seen any dubious behaviour from him, myself. Before this forum was born I read his Tree of Life book and it was very good, so I was working from "Sexual Yoga", which I found brilliant. I dropped him an email, and he answered and we had a fairly long email exchange in which he was unfailingly helpful, charming and friendly. One of the qualities which strikes me very strongly about Eric Yudelove is his heart quality. I find he has a very full and expressive heart energy well integrated with his intellect. I know there are a lot of rumours about Eric and I understand he is not averse to some coyote behaviour. I am always amused by the stories of zen masters hitting their students with sticks when they ask questions instead of practising, and I like the notion of callow students waiting by a tree for a good few years to pass the endurance test before the master unlocks the door. So I am not concerned by a bit of sound and fury, I dont even think it's a bad thing. I dont think anyone has ever implied Eric's practises are dubious, btw.

Hi Island. If you want a book which is practical as well as informative I'd very strongly recommend Eric Yudelove's book on Sexual Yoga. I have read a lot, and spent a lot of money, of books on Taoism and a lot of them are quite fascinating, poetic, scholarly, but in terms of really experiencing some of the Key Taoist practices, Eric Y. has it beautifully put before you. Ken Cohen has some good taoist meditations ( called Qigong Meditations) on tape, also, which are key practices, beautifully presented, which can take you a long long way.

A world without Hate...what would it look like?
三江源 replied to strawdog65's topic in General Discussion
It might be quite straightforward to train oneself away, with practices, from the extreme polarity that is hatred. But then one has sometimes to deal with 'visceral dislike' and that is a more subtle challenge, I find. -
wheeeeeeeeee!! Beauteous, this is, you are. Great figurings out, thanks for articulating it so nicely... what a felt realisation to get to. Santa comes early sometimes.

True atonement: at - one - ment, (ie in harmony) involves joining with God, being at one with God, from which perspective you see your own sin. Atonement is something that purifies very deeply, something acutely felt, exquisitely excruciating, involving heart expansion and education, it refines the moral sense sharply... imagine seeing your own piffling human defilements, from the perspective of perfection...seeing and forgiving yourself now that your perspective is enlarged, a great and good liberation which cleanses.
