  1. I really feel I've made my point and y'all can make of it what you will. I have the best of intentions for the quality of the taobums board and the level of communication we can create together, which will make all potential members want to come here and join in, in a happy and relaxed way. I'm off to have some tea now..off slope..
  2. Tao99 you are unable to understand that I am illustrating the dynamic of slippery slope.
  3. Tao99, the fact is a lot of people are beautifully civil, dont engage in bickering or labelling or denigrating others. Those that do clearly deter civil and potentially interesting people from posting. Robust discussion is great and petty bickering , haranguing etc need have no part in it.
  4. No self awareness, no memories

the little face in shades is supposed to signify a 'b' option...
  5. No self awareness, no memories

Shifting the pattern, I feel strongly about it. One of the things I first heard about daoist practices was "You can change your destiny" and "You can overcome your astrology." so that was excellent, so exciting, liberating. What you think of the differential between a) service and devotion from inner urge and nature service and devotion from a desire to overcome conditioning is all same same, in effect?!
  6. I agree, if people really arent able to understand the essential subtleties of communication, and 1.intent 2.context arent understood, then those people really would have to have An Idiots Guide to Being Civil. Unfortunately for the literal minded, life isnt black and white, there are nuances and subtleties, but if those go above the heads of people, then we are reduced to all or nothing thinking. ie DONT LABEL PEOPLE , IT IS CURSORY AND THEREFORE DISRESPECTFUL.
  7. Are we interested in cheerleaders? or how to interact on the board? It seems stunningly easy for people to miss the point that the INTENT and the CONTEXT is the major part of communication. Unless you are aspergers/autistic?
  8. So do you think RW meant he thought I am a demi - god?
  9. Good practical simple idea to discuss warnings. Great idea considerably more chewy, to discuss what self moderation actually involves as it appears some people are unable to figure out what is civil and actually contributes to the forum and what is not civil and drags the forum down into Raymond is not I think the only person to be put on holiday without a warning. Would it be ok to label this whole fuss about it Drama King behaviour. That's an ok label, isnt it, if we are not objecting to labelling one another.
  10. So Rainbow_Vein very astutely put her finger on the dynamic at work when we fail to self moderate. it's called slippery slope
  11. I'm more than happy to discuss what is common courtesy and how to agree guidelines for it. Great idea. How subjective is it? Is it easiest if we all PLAY NICE and SELF MODERATE and dont knee jerk react, label each other and spew forth our judgments.. or what?

  13. do you think so Rainbow_Vein? How can we tell they might be unnaceptable?
  14. I dont find any meaning in your post, to me it looks like a waste of space. My sense of you is that you have no ability to debate inteligently. Is that Ok if I say that? Does it make it a nice friendly board or should I keep my perception to myself and exercise tact?
  15. Would it be ok if I yawn at this post? Would it be ok if I say that I find it oblique, inarticulate, uninspired, pointless, and I wonder why one earth people post when they clearly have nothing of any value to say whatsoever, and would be far better off reading something to raise their intelligence somewhat, and not writing drivel? Is it ok if I say that? I guess I shouldnt say 'drivel'. Is there a George Bush related word which would be ok? What are the boundaries here for how much we just blah out our criticisms as if we had a right to impose them on other people, and then pat ourselves on the back under the gravely mistaken sense that we are showing evidence of critical thought?
  16. <<yawn>> about pussy <<yawn>> about bitchslap
  17. Oh the horror of Pussy, oh the horror of bitchslap.
  18. Here's TheSongs, cheerleading for Scotty.
  19. Mal, your partner said she would be offended by it..it is SUPER obvious RW was being disrespectful and demeaning to me, it is beyond obvious your moderating was right. The real issue here is name - calling and labelling and the lowering of standards here such that it could even be considered that it is for the good of the board to freely communicate in such a degraded way. Either we have a list of agreed labels to stick on people, or we dont label people. Maybe it should be a poll.

  21. Oh, and what's the ok word to use for "insensitive about language and obtuse about women"?
  22. I disagree entirely. And I'm very surprised that anyone could miss the point. How very disapointing that anyone could think it even remotely okay to designate someone in that way. What would be an okay word to call someone who that I perceive is unconscious and unawakened? "Yahoo"? Would that have been fine for me to say that to RW?I doubt it, so what is the right word? What would be an okay word to call someone that I perceive as persistently and intrusively missing the point who draws attention to themselves endlessly voicing their failiure to comprehend? "Class dunce"? Would that be okay for me to call RW that? I doubt it, so what is the right word? What would be the word for someone who makes erroneous and odious comparisons, stating their favourite board members as superior to a board member they are unable to value? " Invidious divisive Ill mannered oik'? Woud that have been ok for me to call RW that? I doubt it, so what is the right word? We start designating people as how we perceive them on the board, yes? Quite regardless of how they will feel about it? Is that the suggested plan, Scotty? If so please can we pool an acceptable list of designations we can use to label people. Labeling people, instead of relating to them and treating them with respect is just fine, that's your idea for the board. Okaay. We can give it a fair trial and see how it goes.

  24. Enlightenment

Hi Kate, thanks for being unsure that I'm an asshole. Ha! I think there are degrees of assholeishness, but maybe not so clearly delineated as the degrees of enlightenment. Funny thing is that I have a very clear retrospective awareness of my life and a feeling of .. I'm not sure how to say it .. I think it is actually repentance, for all the assholeishness of my life. As I understand it, this is kind of weird of me. I definitely dont dwell on it morbidly or anything, but it comes up during my practice and I experience emotional pain and heart rending repentance for my ignorance. I witness my former ignorances and I am intensely sorry. Not that I have done anything other than the usual kind of obtuse narcissism and ego controllingnesses..very average human stuff, but yes, I am definitely aware acutely of the chasm between me and perfect clarity. Along with this goes a intense gratitude for all the gifts that lfe has given me and a great sense of privelege at having been given the opportunity to love, be loved, learn and live. It is intensely poignant to me to be given so much, and to be so very flawed. Perhaps it is an emotional witnessing of what it means to be human. Kind of like you might get after you have died. I'm not 'religious' by the way, and have not been brought up in any religion or with any concept of repentance in my awareness.
