  1. The danger of radical Islam

  2. But that's precisely my problem. Does Taoism really say NOTHING at all about ethics? If so, doesn't that mean virtue is totally arbitrary and so those acts really are "with the Tao" or "with the Te" 100% of the time? Take theft for instance. I've certainly committed it throughout my life as has everyone. But it somehow feels more natural to me now than before, so how can it be explained? Is my lack of guilt simply of not being afraid to get caught or am I fooling myself and there's something wrong with me deep inside? So are Taoists utilitarianism who despise deontology? I can't imagine any Taoist having anything positive to say about a religion or philosophy as dogmatic Islam, for instance.
  3. Do mainland Chinese believe more in materialism or taoism?

Well then if most taoists don't consider taoism a religion, I'd assume most would be actively opposed to religion as an atheist would? I can't imagine any taoist to have anything positive to say about Islam. I sure don't.
  4. The Chinese Communist Party is essentially the world's largest guardian of capitalism today. I have no doubt that China and the West in general are becoming more concerned with materialism as religion fades. Analytic philosophy in the West has contributed to this as well. I've never been to China, but I think it's a morally dead country. There is no real widespread will for political and individual freedoms, and there never has been, especially not during the rule of the emperors. So is taoism really that influential over there anyway?
  5. Can Taoist practices cure primary hypertension?

What's gaminess? Why doesn't anyone answer in specific terms? Is there a cure or not?
  6. I'm only beginning to understand taoism, but I'm not too familiar with feng shui. I have to experience furniture placement myself before I can believe in it. Btw, does feng shui emphasize on the design, material, and utility of furniture itself, or just its placement? I hope it does, as I find so many of the world's problem attributable to poorly made chairs and beds, which we spend most of our lives using.
  7. Can a serial killer be a taoist?

Suppose killing gives someone pleasure and happiness. Even if he is insane (most serial killers are not), can he be considered a taoist if he believes in its basic premises?
  8. In Albert Camus' novel "A Happy Death," the main character Mersault kills a rich invalid cripple named Zagreus in order to use his money to buy more time for living. Just before Zagreus is killed, he talks with Mersault in which he expresses sorrow that he'll never be able to enjoy his money OR his time and hopes that Mersault finds a way to happiness. Zagreus of course isn't explicitly asking to be killed, but his attitude doesn't seem to be particularly opposed to the idea. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Happy_Death
  9. Can Taoist practices cure primary hypertension?

What's fire type? My question about measurement hasn't been answered. How did Chinese practitioners of this even REALIZE that hypertension existed, considering that sphygmomanometers were only invented about one hundred years ago?
  10. Primary hypertension is known as the silent killer as many who have it don't know they do. Its etiology is unknown yet it leads to so many other health problems. So not counting traditional Chinese medicine, are these any Taoist practices that can treat it? Since blood pressure was unmeasurable over two hundred years ago, I doubt that there'd be any scientific validity to any such practices, if they exist.
  11. Are there instances in which murder is not immoral?
  12. Was Mao Zedong a Taoist?

Let's suppose he thought he believed in taoism sincerely. Since taoism does not talk about morality and good or evil, how can Mao's tyrannical grip over China for 27 years be described in terms of te?
  13. If everyone in world history had adhered to wu wei, what would actually get accomplished?
  14. 1) How can inanimate objects have tao? 2) Since taoism does not have dogma, how should one live ethically? Or why should one live ethically at all? 3) Since the tao is everywhere, does that mean everyone in the world is a taoist? Even Muslim fundamentalists? 4) Are Buddhists and Taoists really "brothers in heaven?" I've been studying up on taoism for the past year, and I have a much better impression of it than Buddhism, which I feel is almost as dogmatic as Abrahamic religions. 5) If taoist ideas are really that influential in China, why has Chinese history been so bloody and tyrannical? 6) At the current rate, the planet will be uninhabitable within two centuries as man destroys this planet. Do you think Laozi would be concerned about this? 7) Is there really an afterlife? If so, is there a heaven and hell? 8) Some branches of taoism (in Taiwan) believe in ancestor and deity worship of thousands of spirits. Are they misinformed? 9) How often do you consult the I Ching? Is it really divinely inspired? 10) Is there any scientific basis to the practice of semen retention?
  15. 1) How can inanimate objects have tao? 2) Since taoism does not have dogma, how should one live ethically? Or why should one live ethically at all? Wh cant I just do whatever I like, to please myself, and treat people like shit if it suits me? 3) Since the tao is everywhere, does that mean everyone in the world is a taoist? Even Muslim fundamentalists? Yes, I really asked that. 4) Are Buddhists and Taoists really "brothers in heaven?" I've been studying up on taoism for the past year, and I have a much better impression of it than Buddhism, which I feel is almost as dogmatic as Abrahamic religions. Troll Question alert! 5) If taoist ideas are really that influential in China, why has Chinese history been so bloody and tyrannical? Troll question alert! 6) At the current rate, the planet will be uninhabitable within two centuries as man destroys this planet. Do you think Laozi would be concerned about this? 7) Is there really an afterlife? If so, is there a heaven and hell? As if you know the answers! 8) Some branches of taoism (in Taiwan) believe in ancestor and deity worship of thousands of spirits. Are they misinformed? 9) Will you take me seriously if I go on and on about how much I need lots of women and am unable to be monogamous? Or will I just look like a twat?
