I dont know about academic I had the energy blasting up my spine that sounded a lot like Kundalini is supposed to be like. It lasted 7 years almost to the day it started. It started when I began to meditate in March of 1992 with a descent of what I figure was some sort of shaktipat. It was like a shaft of liquid lightening drilled me on top of my head and exploded in my brain, then descended to my chest to explode there and then down to my belly to explode there too and then permeated my whole body from that point. Once a month from that point I began to feel kundalini symptoms and they lasted until March 1999 when the energy blasted up my spine and I had a tunnel experience and saw a flaming swastika in the center of my brain. My kundalini stuff was hand in hand with my Taoist alchemy practice. Strange stuff indeed...

Drew.... I have nothing to add to this thread except to say you just made me spit coffee all over my key board.

The way I see it kundalini is the life force. Normally we get a little trickle but if you meditate and practice other disciplines you can open the floodgates. It not evil or Luciferic like that Christian Fundie Tex Marrs says. Thats the same as saying Taoist alchemy is evil. I like Alice Bailey, Theosophy and the 7 chakra theory. I dont believe everything they teach but in my experience these initiations are real. EDIT: Spelling.

The backward flowing method is also the story of Genesis. Both trees in the garden grow at its center point. The tree of life and the tree of knowledge grow from the same place. The tree of life is the spine and the tree of knowledge is the penis. Eating from the tree of knowledge leads to death and eating from the tree of life leads to eternal life. The Zohar says that Adam and Eve just ate in the wrong order. They were supposed to wait until the tree of life was ripe and then eat from it and then they could blamelessly eat from the tree of knowledge whenever they wanted. Instead they greedily ate from the tree of knowledge and were banished from the garden of eden.

Ooooooooooooooo! Cool! -
In Taoist alchemy the most common immortal is the Yoda (Jesus?) kind where you die and your body vanishes. The highest immortals vanish/ascend in full waking consciousness like Elijah.

There is a tai chi move called "dragon dives for pearl". I was taught you form the pearl in the lower dan tien (belly) and its the dragon that dives from the upper dan tien (head) to the lower to retrieve it. Thats what the tai chi move is supposed to represent.

Thanks! I love this guy!

You were just speaking from authority like you were quoting from a book and not giving your personal opinion so I was just looking for what book or teacher you were drawing from. Was that your personal opinion? I think our difference of opinion is that I see God and Tao as the same thing. You dont. My view of God is very Catholic which means God beyond words to describe. The God that can be spoken of is not the true God sort of thing. God is beyond all conceptual thinking and rational thought. God may be loved and experienced but never understood. Does that make sense? When people hear me speak of "God" they think I am talking about a judgmental diety that sits on a cloud all red faced and angry about people having sex and using condoms. Thats not the case at all and that NOT the Catholic idea of God either. The Catholic idea of God and the Taoist idea of Tao are nearly identical.

Gratitude is a way to live. I thank the God/Tao/ the universe for my health, job, girl and life in general depending on my mood. I dont expect an answer, I just like the effect it has on me. I like to live in the attitude of gratitude. I got this practice from watching THE SECRET. I have a habit of reading a list of things I am grateful for every night before bed. Where exactly are you pulling "thanking a god or creator for our food, in taoist terms is like thanking my invisible playmate" from? What Taoist source?

Some college... it was actually a Catholic Seminary. I started having OBE's and that was the end of any "traditional" religious education for me. LOL I still consider myself a Christian and Catholic in particular but I am sure the Pope would say differently. Thats ok though... we just wont tell him.

I dont know what effect it has on my food but it has an effect on me when I ask for a blessing with gratitude. As a Christian I believe it when Jesus said "Its not what you put in your mouth that makes you unclean but what comes out of it". If I had a banana and I blessed it in Jesus Christs name everyday for a month straight, all I would get is a rotten banana and a lot of happy fruit flies. Like I said, when I bless something I am cultivating humility as an effect on myself, not my food.
-
No. I recognize a higher power and enjoy the humility I cultivate when I am being grateful or asking "It" (God/Tao) for a blessing.

I pray before my major meals in public and when I am alone. "Bless this Our Lord and these Thy gifts which we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ Our Lord, Amen."
