I should add that this book has some experiences that I went through that I have never heard any other writer talk about AND the reason for them!

I have it and its one of my favorites!

I've read most of his stuff and its pretty profound. The problem with Bill is his writing style is terrible. He repeats things over and over and you have to sift through sometimes 600 pages to find a few pages of anything useful. But those few pages are sure to change your views on everything from Kundalini yoga to Taoist alchemy. He is heavily buddhist in his outlook also, which I find annoying. I'd say if you have the cash then buy everything you can of his. Its one of the few places you'll find anything so advanced. All this is "In My ever-so Humble Opinion" of course!

My impression was that the Taoist canon is a whole bunch of books like the Christian canon only the Taoist one isn't all in one place or even fully translated.

Retention is more like masturbation to the point of orgasm but just before you clench you anal muscles and thrust you hips back and stop ejaculation/orgasm that way. There is no damage this way. Lineage is easy to explain if you have one. Me- John Wang- Chen Man Ching- Yang Chen fu- Ect. My sisters ex-teacher claimed secret teachers at the Shaolin Monastery and just got outed as a fraud. Beware those who cant and wont tell you their lineage. But of course beware of those who can too because lineage really doesn't equal ability or the ability to teach either.

I avoided socializing but not intentionally during my 20's and 30's. I was just obsessed with the alchemy. I think there are times you need to socialize and times you need to be a hermit. The problem is knowing which is which. I'd say avoid socializing like the plague in the beginning of alchemy especially when your building the foundation but in the stage of training your baby shen I'd guess its ok to go to a party or two.
