How we used to pick up men and women (re BKA's how-to thread)

Internet dating has changed the scene quite a bit. I've heard that more couples are meeting online than any single other place. I've also heard that a lot of online dating tends to be like buying shoes from Zappos. They have a lot of different styles, but you can't tell how they fit until you put them on. Luckily, they have a free return policy, so you can try on as many as you like until you find the right pair. I draw a lot of parallels between shoe shopping and dating these days. My motto is: "Be patient. Shop around. Don't keep a pair that you aren't crazy about." -
Turtle Breathing - The scientific rationale

Dr. Andrew Weil teaches a breath technique that has a ratio of 'inhale 1, hold 1 1/2, exhale 2'. I like that one. Sometimes I use it while walking or biking. It's hard enough to do it during moderate exercise; couldn't imagine doing it while running. EDIT: I thought they were suggesting you practice breath work while exercising, not after. -

Don't forget to close the anal sphincter. You can't be a navel gazer without also being an anus squeezer. -

Expanding and strengthening, maybe? Making the dandien more sensitive to movement? Certainly, it requires more attention to go to that place, whatever the effect may be called. -
I've been thinking I should start limiting myself to a few beers on the weekends. I've been drinking 2-4 every night lately. Back when all you could get was Bud Light it wasn't an issue, but all these new craft beers are SO DELICIOUS!

I used to think I would be happier with a woman who was interested in martial arts and cultivation and things like that. Then I got involved with a woman who was a more advanced cultivator than me. A very interesting relationship; I learned a lot from her, but in spite of our many common interests I think we were just not romantically compatible. There was also a distance issue, though. Then, more recently I got involved with a kung fu instructor. Also an interesting relationship. Again, I don't think the romantic spark is there but DAMN is she fun to spar with! I don't think common interest is the best indicator that you'll make a good match, romantically. The best relationships I've had were with women who were just good at listening to me talk about my interests. And yeah, guys, if I were to offer one piece of advice on meeting women/men: be a good listener. Ask questions, be interested. If you are interested in them, you will be interesting to them. -

You know what's really sad? 25% of my job is proofreading unintelligible marketing jargon like this. (No, I'm not even kidding.) Thanks, Rockwell Automations! -

Your experience and mine are not congruent in this case. One of the first times I ever achieved what I would call 'deep trance' was while I was performing standing qigong movements. I certainly think it is easier to get deep with seated stillness meditation, but practicing movement (particularly movements that are deeply ingrained in your muscle memory) for a prolonged period of time can facilitate deep trance as well. -
Sorry, couldn't resist.

I've read Damo's book and have discussed Jerry's book with people who have read it. My sense is that Jerry's book is far more advanced. So much so that I decided not to get it. Pretty much all of the beginner and intermediate stuff he talks about in his cultivation book has been published elsewhere and I don't want to mess with the advanced stuff without someone from his lineage as a guide.

That reminds me of the people who try to argue that vaccines are causing children to be autistic. You know what, I think automobile driving is causing early-onset erectile dysfunction. Seriously, the vibrations that constantly bombard the pelvis are causing blood vessels to constrict. If we conducted a study, I bet you would find that at least one in three men with early-onset erectile dysfunction regularly drive automobiles. -
I feel a lot of magnetic sensations. Not just the drawing, but also the repulsing aspect of magnetism. In fact, I think I feel that subtle repulsing (like the parallel poles of two magnets are being brought into proximity to one another) more often than the drawing or sucking sensation. I also shake and vibrate a lot when I'm meditating. And I sometimes feel tingling. I don't really feel much temperature fluctuation, but I've had several people tell me I'm very hot. My acupuncturist says I have excessive upper body heat, which I believe is a deviation related to the liver. Edit: I also sometimes feel a build up of pressure in certain parts of my body. I once thought that was related to qi blockages, but I'm not really sure.

Thanks for the Christmas gift. Definitely interested in reading the rest of it. Here are a few things I highlighted: -
If I lived there, I would open a brothel where you could have a woman (or man, I'm an equal opportunity employer), a smoke, and some delicious poutine. It would be called Ass, Grass, and Gravy.

So, for those of us who didn't read The Bliss of Inner Fire, what's it all about? (by the way, we underline book titles in English. \Englishgrammarpolice out!) -
Don't some places also have legal weed? Canada is becoming a wretched hive of scum and villainy . . . and cheese curds and gravy.

TL;DR: Step one: Collect some fresh cow crap. Step two: Pack it tightly into a cow horn, bake the crap-filled horns in an oven. Step three: . . . Step four: Profit! Here's Wikipedia's more succinct description of biodynamic agriculture preparations: Biodynamic preparations Steiner prescribed nine different preparations to aid fertilization, and described how these were to be prepared. Steiner believed that these preparations mediated terrestrial and cosmic forces into the soil. The prepared substances are numbered 500 through 508, where the first two are used for preparing fields whereas the latter seven are used for making compost. A long term trial (DOK experiment) evaluating the biodynamic farming system in comparison with organic and conventional farming systems, found that both organic farming and biodynamic farming resulted in enhanced soil properties, but had lower yields than conventional farming. Regarding compost development beyond accelerating the initial phase of composting, some positive effects have been noted: The field sprays contain substances that stimulate plant growth include cytokinins. Some improvement in nutrient content of compost. Field preparations Field preparations, for stimulating humus formation: 500: (horn-manure) a humus mixture prepared by filling the horn of a cow with cow manure and burying it in the ground (40–60 cm below the surface) in the autumn. It is left to decompose during the winter and recovered for use the following spring. 501: Crushed powdered quartz prepared by stuffing it into a horn of a cow and buried into the ground in spring and taken out in autumn. It can be mixed with 500 but usually prepared on its own (mixture of 1 tablespoon of quartz powder to 250 liters of water) The mixture is sprayed under very low pressure over the crop during the wet season, in an attempt to prevent fungal diseases. It should be sprayed on an overcast day or early in the morning to prevent burning of the leaves. Both 500 and 501 are used on fields by stirring about one teaspoon of the contents of a horn in 40–60 liters of water for an hour, creating vortexes in alternate directions. Compost preparations Compost preparations, used for preparing compost, employ herbs which are frequently used in medicinal remedies: 502: Yarrow blossoms (Achillea millefolium) are stuffed into urinary bladders from Red Deer (Cervus elaphus), placed in the sun during summer, buried in earth during winter and retrieved in the spring. 503: Chamomile blossoms (Matricaria recutita) are stuffed into small intestines from cattle buried in humus-rich earth in the autumn and retrieved in the spring. 504: Stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) plants in full bloom are stuffed together underground surrounded on all sides by peat for a year. 505: Oak bark (Quercus robur) is chopped in small pieces, placed inside the skull of a domesticated animal, surrounded by peat and buried in earth in a place where lots of rain water runs past. 506: Dandelion flowers (Taraxacum officinale) are stuffed into the mesentery of a cow and buried in earth during winter and retrieved in the spring. 507: Valerian flowers (Valeriana officinalis) are extracted into water. 508: Horsetail (Equisetum) One to three grams (a teaspoon) of each preparation is added to a dung heap by digging 50 cm deep holes with a distance of 2 meters from each other, except for the 507 preparation, which is stirred into 5 liters of water and sprayed over the entire compost surface. All preparations are thus used in homeopathic quantities. Each compost preparation is designed to guide a particular decomposition process in the composting mass. One study found that the oak bark preparation improved disease resistance in zucchini.
