Yes, come to think of it. He was only against the ritual part on bowing as one is greeting someone. However, he was for keeping the mind in an intellectual state. I think that is the part what the Taoist had absorbed; but I am not sure that ZZ was against Buddhism. -
It says Yang style Tai Ji(楊家太極拳) at the right side on his wall. And Karate(空手道) on the left. It seems, to me, that his teaching is the combination of both styles. BTW he is Korean.

道教吸收了儒佛两家的心性学说,又发扬了自家传统的养生学说,遂形成性命双修的修炼理论。由此,我们可以将性命双修分为性功与命功两种,性功是道教与儒、佛相通的地方,而命功则是道教独有的传统,不讲命功,不是道教。 陈撄宁大师认为,仙道贵生、乐生、重生、追求长生,所以它是生本主义,这正是道家仙学最具特色的地方。他认为性命相依,命为重。他用灯作比喻,灯油是命,灯光是性;有灯无油,灯必不能发光;徒有灯油而不能发光,则不能显现油灯照明之用;修道之意在教人积足油量,并教以点灯之法,则人生必充满光辉。 The Taoist religion had absorbed some methods for the cultivation of the mind from both Buddhism and Confucian. With the addition of Taoist's own immortal method, progressively, they have formulated a concept of the dual cultivation of Xing and Ming. From that, we can separate the dual cultivation into two as Xing Kung(性功) and Ming Kung(命功). Xing Kung is a Taoist method which is interactive with Confucian and Buddhism. However, Ming Kung then it is, only, the independent Taoist tradition. If Ming Kung hasn't been mentioned, then, it is not the Taoist religion. The great master 陈撄宁 said:"the immortal practice is to value life, happy to be alive, reincarnation, and pursuit for longevity. Therefore, it is the fundamental belief for life. This is the main characteristic of the Taoist immortal theory. Between Xing and Ming, Ming is the most significant. He used lighting a lantern as an analogy; the oil is Ming; and the light is Xing. If a lantern without oil, then, it cannot produce light. Hence, if a lantern cannot produce light, then the lantern cannot manifest its function of shedding lights. Cultivating the principles of Tao is analogous to accumulate and save oil to keep the lantern of being lit, then, life would have been full of brilliancy. -

If you are more Yin, it is obviously that you need to go to the Yang state, by getting more rest, until you are not tired anymore. -

Let's say yesterday is a Saturday and you are tired, then, you are Yin compared to the other Yang days before. Today is Sunday, the beginning of the week, and you feel more Yin. Hence, you are Yin today with respect to yesterday. Another words, you feeling Yin this week with respect to last week. PS.... The Tao teaching is in Post #8. -

In this case, your apparent conclusion that you are feeling Yin today is only that you are tired until the next morning. If you are only tired until the afternoon, then, you are only tired in the morning of the day. Thus you were not tired for the whole day. -

性命双修是道教的重要思想与教义,也是内丹学术语 The dual cultivation of Xing and Ming is the important concept of the Taoist religion and canon; and they are also the technical terms of Neidan. “性”“命”的含义(The meanings of Xing and Ming) 性指人的心性、思想、秉性、性格、精神等。命指人的身体、生命、能量、命运、物质等。性命双修也就是指“神形兼修”、心身全面修炼。《中和集》、《性命圭旨》、《天仙金丹心法》、《天仙正理直论》、《金仙证论》等书都有关于“性命双修”的论述。《性命圭旨》说:“何谓之性?元始真如,一灵炯炯是也。何为之命?先天至精,一气氤氲是也。”又说:“性之造化系乎心,命之造化系乎身。”陈撄宁大师说:“性即是吾人之灵觉,命即是吾人之生机。”可谓既深刻,又生动。人的生命实际上是两个生命即精神生命和生理生命的双重融合,人们通常说要身心健康,亏其一即残缺不全。所以性命二字高度概括了人生的两大要素。 Xing is the mind, thoughts, one's nature, personality, and spirit. Ming is the body, life, energy, destiny, and substance. The dual cultivation of Xing and Ming which means the cultivation for "the spirit and the form". The spirit is the mind and form is the body. In these classics 《中和集》、《性命圭旨》、《天仙金丹心法》、《天仙正理直论》、《金仙证论》 have mentioned the dual cultivation of the Xing and Ming. In the classic of 《性命圭旨》says: "What is xing? The initial primary is really like one bright spirit. What is Ming? It is the prenatal essence like one dense steamy mist. It was also said: "Xing is the formation of the heart. Ming is the formation of the body. The great master ”陈撄宁" said: "Xing is my grokking sensory., Ming is my vital organism." Then it was said to be profound and lively. A living being had two lives; they are the integration of the spiritual life and the physical life. People always say that we must have a healthy heart(mind) and body. If there is a lack of one or other, then there will be a handicap. Hence, Xing and Ming are two big factors of life. -
This is only leads to a believer or non-believer. However, the validity of the saying need to be challenged with modern science.

Yes, when Yang has reached to the state of Yin, then Yin will return to the state of Yang. The fundamental concept of Yin/Yang. 陽極陰生: When Yang has reached to its peak state, then Yin starts rising. 陰極陽生: When Yin has reached to it peak state, then Yang starts rising. -
opendao..... What have you accomplished in your school in the past? I mean the result of any significant physical change in your body from your practice? And what were/are you practicing. This is only to satisfy my curiosity rather than a challenge. It would be my pleasure to hear your empirical experiences. Thanks.

MH.... That was quite an AC analogy, there, for electricity. Let me try the same analogy with a DC battery. In a DC battery, there are two polarized terminals, one terminal is positively charged which is Yang and the other is negatively charged which is Yin. Between the two terminals there is a potential difference if the Yin/Yang charges are not equally charged. It was said to be that they are unbalanced. When the battery is not equally charged, the positive terminal is said to be too Yang; and the negative is too Yin. Now, let's put a light bulb to load across the two terminals, then the Yang charge on the positive terminal will rush to the negative terminal for the light bulb to be lit. After the Yang(positive) charges are run out, then, the light bulb is no longer lit. It was said to be that the Yin/Yang charges have been neutralized at both terminals. Therefore, no more current flowing to light the light bulb. -

Thank you. You are correct about the mainland website. 小说家 has two meanings; one is the people who write stories which are more fictional. The second has a more scholarly flavor as you have indicated. This 小說家 (諸子百家) applies to the speeches of the philosophers which are more factual. BTW The reason 小说家 was mentioned in this document is because there were many fiction stories written by some authors which had been brain washed many people about Taoism and Buddhism. -

Thank you for your generosity. You are a gentleman and a scholar. FYI The Taoist had been using the term 精, all the time, in their documents but I haven't seen any good description or definition of what it is. So, your guess is as good as mine. The term has several meanings. Thus it can be very inclusive. Perhaps it would be interesting to investigate it separately. You are correct about the modern scientific point of view. However, the ancient Taoist did not have the scientific knowledge as we have now. Their concepts might not be the exact science. Fortunately, we, the modern people which have the knowledge are trying to relate their concepts with some scientific explanation. -

This is more of the translation for the Chinese modern interpretation for easy understanding. 老子道德经曾云道生一、一生二、二生三、三生万物。丹道即三返二、二返一、一合于道。其名词为炼气化神、炼神还虚(后又增添炼虚合道、虚空粉碎一说)即精气神的返还过程。又因人精气不足,又创出补足精气的练精化气,使人从后天补亏达到先天,以便开始修炼。 In Lao Tze's Tao Te Ching, it says: Tao engenders One, One engenders Two, Two engender Three. In alchemy(丹道), it says: Three return to Two, Two return to One, One unites with Tao. This reverse process is called as the refinement of Chi(氣) to Shen(神), refine Shen(神) to Void(虛)(Later, there was a saying that a new process was added to refine Void to be integrated with Tao; then the vacuous Void became shattered). This was know as the reverse process of 精气神(Jing, Chi, Shen). In the event when human has insufficient of 精气(Jing and Chi), then a supplemental procedure was invented to refine the Jing to Chi. This reverse procedure will allow the postnatal(houtian) reproduction of Jing and Chi(精气) to supplement the prenatal (xiantian) deficiency to initialize the body to begin to practice Neidan.. -

The meaning of a flesh body, it was integrated by the four falsehood of things. Even though, they were given by the parents. The gene(精) was from the father and the blood from the mother; originally, there were ordinary substances. How can they not be deteriorated...??? What are the four greats...??? Earth, Water, Wind, and Fire, that is what they are. The Earth is the construction of the bones, flesh meat and the internal organs. The Water makes up the blood in the body. The Wind is the respiratory system. The Fire provides the normal heat for the body. 修真(Xiu4 Zhen1) has two categories; they are pragmatic and novelistic. The term and realm of the novelistic 修真(Xiu4 Zhen1) has no significant cultivatable value but only used by the novelists for amusement. The people had been taken the elixir under the external refine process which called the Waidan(外丹) is declining and outdated. Nowadays, the 修真(Xiu4 Zhen1) society is mainly cultivate the internal alchemy which know as Neidan(內丹). Neidan is emphasized in the cultivation of refining the Shen(神) and Chi(氣).
