James Kunstler makes the case for a return to traditional Taoist communities
idquest replied to Encephalon's topic in General Discussion
This is why I have always supported the carbon tax of 100% and more. This is the only way to prepare society for oil-less reality and develope alternative technologies. They are not cheap, mind you. -
You can discuss it and you can try it. Just try and you'll see.
-
TO add to this - studying taiji / bagua / xhin yi WITH applications - might come handy. What is good with that - this is spiritual work of kind as well.

If you are financially independent and well, females will be drawn to you, no worries. Financial stability will help with your school and spiritual growth.

I understand durkhrod chogori was trying to emphasize a necessity for rooting. More balance in cultivation. COuld be a longer way but more reliable.
-
Darin, good start! Do you see any advantages in using a sword in taiji for cultivation? What I've come across so far is 'this is fun' notion. I wonder if there is anything else because I personally am indifferent to a sword as such.

I was taught that if you practice reversed breathing then on exhale with expanding belly the energy will naturally go down. You could try and see yourself. Another thing to watch - the huyin area. It should be relaxed on exhale as well. That will help the energy to go to yongchuan.
-
Another aspect of deep breathing is that you massage internal organs with the diaphragm. So it is not only about oxygen and pollution.

Would you say that working with a qi ball while standing has about the same benefits that standing still? I do a qikung form that starts with standing still with a slight variation on arms/hands position. But then there is some movements involving working with qi balls and emitting / absorbing qi to/from palms and fingers to a body. Very subtle movements but this is not actually standing still. I have been wondering if that would qualify as just still standing.

US Health Care - Propose a solution in accord with Tao
idquest replied to Ya Mu's topic in General Discussion
Those are key words. Tao in fact is a form of preventive medicine. Any kind of preventive medicine is better than the lack of one. Solution: encourage public to take care of themselves with the preventive medicine. Discourage relying on medical doctors and hospitals. A healthy lifestyle is an effect of the preventive medicine taken as a broad category. -
Master Shou Yu Liang http://www.shouyuliang.com/ teaches in Vancouver. A lot of other schools and teachers in BC. You wouldn't be alone.

This blog: http://longmenpai.blogspot.com/search/labe...ian%20Taijiquan from a respected master implies that the awareness of meridians activation by doing a taiji form is not common among practitioners. Which is a bit confusing for me. Should we have any intent at all while doing taiji?

Allison Post in her Unwinding the Belly states that it is normal to have as many BM's as you have meals. Usually people have 2-3 meals a day, that is they would normally have 2-3 BM a day.

Did you notice that at some speed it becomes a swastica?

I would support L1 in a sense that different systems have different and often opposite methabolism. What is poison for one is food for another. We can observe that throughout the Nature with many examples. If a human being can transmute 'sick qi' as you say, can't the Earth do the same thing? The most fertile soils on Earth are the ones that have transmuted all the rotten (sick and dead?) living organisms.

Does anyone here practice Baguazhang?
idquest replied to innerspace_cadet's topic in General Discussion
Would you be able to elaborate? I'm currently studying some qigong form that incorporates very basic walking. I would say it has a very noticable effect. This is why my interest in Bagua. -
Christoff, It has been noted by somebody here on TTB that a simple cooling off your genital area at night helps a lot. For me, it definately helps. Even more, I have noticed that recently I have only had nocturnals when I used a too warm blanket. So now I'm trying to cover my back and chest leaving genitals open.

Trunk, Thanks for sharing! The instruction to Novasonic says the sonic waves can penetrate up to 2.5 inches deep. That is if you apply it to sacrum, you will affect prostate. Would you say that prostate is affected? Can you feel it?
-
Shou Yu Liang recommends the reversed breathing for virtually all qigong movements. He says this kind of breathing opens more than 10 meridians (don't remember the exact number). From what and how he teaches, he is not concerned about possible negative effects from the reverse breathing. He might recommend normal breathing to calm down and settle qi in LDT. That encourages qi to be concentrated in that area after the active phase. You can watch his show ''Tai Chi'' where he shows some qigong as well. I believe this show is available throghout the North America on channels specializing on yoga / qigong / spiritual stuff.

Thanks, Pietro, for this After reading your post I had a look at Bruce's info in the web. It looks like the bulk of the material is devoted to baguazhang, as if it was Bruce's passion. Does he like / prefer baguazhang more than say taiji?

I wonder if there is something like qi and qigong in Kabbalah? Any energy work in Kabbalah at all? I also heard they don't allow women into the system.
-
Amazing! What article / book is it from?

Not exactly a qi-self massage, but a good stuff anyway: Unwinding the Belly by Allison Post. Very good on the whole abdominal area including some breathwork and intercostals.

I've read that there is such a phenomenae as 'false circulation' referring to not fully / improperly / imaginary opening of MCO. Can anybody say what would be some signs to distinguish between false and true circulation?
-
You can add Chunyu Li (spelling?) from Spring Forest Qigong and Shouyu Liang (Qigong Empowerment) who start the cultivation with MCO. Methods of activation of MCO can be different which makes the practices different. I have another question though. The main stuff (kundalini / kan&li) happens in the central channel. So why do we need MCO in the first place?
