  1. Filling up the lower Dan Tien- How and Why

Lay people means people who have family and responsibility, a wife, kids and have sex. Non-lay people are monks. Monk means you don't have anything, any kind of social relationship, except the one established by the monastery rules. Zhang Bo Duan was a monk. As far as I remeber you have a wife and a kid, according to the definition you are a "lay people".
  2. Filling up the lower Dan Tien- How and Why

Chapter 11 of Understanding the Reality (translated by T.Cleary) The yellow sprouts and white clouds are not hard to seek, Those who arrive must rely on depth of virtuous practice. The four forms and five elements all depend on earth, The three bases and eight trigrams are not apart from elder water. Refined into spiritual substance, they are inscrutable to men. Having dissolved all that is negative and harmful, One is invulnerable to ghosts. I wish to leave the secret among humankind, but I have not yet met a single perceptive person. Liu I ming commentary says: The ultimate Tao is not complicated, the fire and medicine are not remote; the white clouds are right before your eyes, the yellow sprouts grow in your own home. The Tao of Health, Longevity and Immortality (the Teachings of Immortals Chung and Lu) translated by Eva Wong: Introduction: ... The Waterwheel also cannot start until obstacles in its path have been cleared. in my experience, the momentum of the first "golden sparks" "flying up from behind the navel" is the key to opening the path for the Microcosmic and Macrocosmic Circulations. Many people describe the initial experience of "ejecting the golden sparks" as "something shooting up the spine". ... Chapter 10 Lead and Mercury ... When this one true water merges with the true vapor of the heart, the process is referred to as 'the dragon and the tiger copulating to become the yellow sprouts". With time the yellow sprouts will be transformed into the great medicine. ... Chapter 11 Extracting and Replenishing ... When you gather the medicine, you must replenish the mercury, and when you replenish the mercury, you must extract the lead. This kind of extracting and replenishing does not occur outside the body. Rather it involves moving something from the lower tan-tien to the upper tan-tien. The process is called 'letting the golden sparks fly from behind the navel'. It is also referred to as 'starting the Waterwheel to move the dragon and the tiger' and 'attaining longevity by returning the generative fluid to the head'. ... Chapter 12 the Waterwheel ... The cycle of the five elements follows the principle of reversal silently, the dragon and tiger copulate and the yellow sprouts are born-this is the work of the Small Waterwheel. The golden sparks fly up from behind the navel and return to the Mud Ball cavity, lead is extracted to replenish mercury, and the great medicine is realized-this is the work of Greater Wheel. ... And so on...
  3. Filling up the lower Dan Tien- How and Why

Yes, that would be a nice thing to define these terms before saying what is NOT, so that everybody reading and discussing this topic can understand and relate to: experiences changes results
  4. Ida-Pingala Collapse?

Yep it is an yin excess symptom. If you eat hot pepper the internal humidity will be expulsed and the nose will dry ultimately. I think the hot pepper especially if it is green color heats the liver which will open the right nostril. If you eat ginger the stomach-spleen-pancreas will heat and the left nostril will open. If the nose drain fluid is clear - yin excess, if the nose phlegm is white - yin excess. If the phlegm is yellow-green - yang excess(from stomach-s-p/liver. Also you can identify the internal energy by the color of the urine, if it is clear - yin, if it is yellow neutral, if it is dark (towards red or green color) it is yang.

  8. Transforming Lines and the 3 Coin Method

I am not expert in yi jing, I only used it twice in my life, and each time was frightening accurate. But then I figured it out that I kind of knowing already the divination answer before tossing the coins so I decided I never use it again. In my opinion the divination is just bringing the awarness of energy flow at the intelectual level from the heart-feelings level. So I consider the reading valid, I just don't understand what you mean by "how to decide". There is nothing to be decided, it is just telling you how the energy of a particular situation will change or how two energies interact with each other. It is an energetic pattern which is like a fractal, it has the same pattern in small things as well as in big things, and it will always repeat. You look at the text in a comprehensive manner, everything is related to everything (I am referring here to the lines in the two hexagrams). You can have also only one hexagram which is showing a static energy that does not change but in my opinion this will change too just very slow, compared to the situation when you have two hexagrams that show a very dynamic situation when the energy is changing quickly. So the only thing that I retain from Yi Jing is that everything changes.
  9. Transforming Lines and the 3 Coin Method

The coins have two faces, one is 2 pointd the other is 3 points. You toss them an you count the points. 2+2+2=6 big Yin transforms to Yang 2+2+3=7 small Yang still needs to mature 2+3+3=8 small Yin still needs to mature 3+3+3=9 big Yang transforms to Yin if you have: 6,6,7,8,9,7 this means: starting transformation hexagram 53 __ stays the same __ will turn to - - - - stays the same __ stays the same - - will turn to __ - - will turn to __ ending transformation hexagram 26 __ - - - - __ __ __ "Infiltrating" leads to "Accumulating Wisdom". Anyway it is a process, a dynamic flow of energy, not a static calculation. I just invented these numbers without tossing any coins but maybe Yi Jing is trying to say something to me
  10. Carbohydrates.

In Ayurveda they recommend rice and mung beans (mung dal) in equal proportions with spices and vegetable oils (or ghee). This is called Ketchari, you can find many recipes on google/youtube.
  11. I said already my thoughts in the post #36 and #38, which are supported by the text in the above link starting at page 173, ch 13 of that thesis. And you are supposed to "read" also the pictures not only the words. The words are for the left brain, the pictures are for the right brain. They were very clever these guys who wrote those books.
  12. yeah I understand, to retain only the useful, but there are some things that cannot be simplified, like from an aircraft you don't take only the propeller and throw away the rest of the aircraft because is the only thing that provides thrust. Or you don't isolate the wheel of the car because it is the part that is moving and producing torque. you also need oil, and conditioned/pressurized air, you need sparks and fuel, you need hydraulics for landing and braking, you need cargo bays to fill them with goods and so on. And also you need lights and buttons and many other devices that helps you control the vehicle and keep it on the trajectory. This is THE Way, to have a safe and smooth ride, not to go "only" to Rome or to buy "only" the Mercedes brand.
  13. Balance in taoist practices

That is why they invented the 5 elements meditation practice, so that you cycle the energy and disperse the excess. Also the tree practice is cooling things down.
  14. Nice, so you can chop a text any way you want so that you retain only that what you understand or that serves your purpose and everything else you throw away, which means the whole context and philosophy that text was written.

  18. I moved from Montreal to Vancouver because of that, the weather was too cold on the East Coast. Although they are on different parallels, from 45deg I went up to 50deg parallel, the sun has a different cycle and burns stronger during the summer. But the air is warmer all year long and during winter we are protected under a thick blanket of clouds. But yeah in colder climate you should learn to breath to increase the internal heat. And the more internal heat the more meat you will want to eat.
