Mine was a poor attempt to convey the potential for abuse I too shall try to clarify. I am fine with some one having the right and or ability to remove or delete my comments is their in their personal practice journal. After all it is theirs. I would assume posting publicly on an internet form one is inviting comments from other members of said forum, why else would one post? But that they would be able to edit in part my comments and in doing so possibly changing the intent of my comments to suit their agenda seems a bit dishonest. thelearner speaks well of integrity...

I'm not sure I want somebody to rearrange my furniture, then turn off the lights and leave whilst I am using the loo. It doesn't seem like much fun to me, on the other hand...

Is that remotely possible?

Stand for something or stand for nothing comes to mind. With any luck having survived many experiences will lead to sound judgements. Sound judgement is a precursor to wisdom...

But if one's reasoning is sound, one's memory needn't be. To the contrary as my age grows my memory shrinks, but in turn the depth of understanding increases. And my reasoning is improved by the richness of experience.

My initial thought is it would not be fair to the child. But further information would be helpful! What would be the reason(s) that led to his adoption? What was his age when adopted? What is history of relationship between child and biological family. Are the adopted family currently meeting the child's needs, both physical and emotional? Is the biological family ready willing and able to meet the child's needs, both physical and emotional? How would any change be made abruptly or slowly. Would child remain in same school? Neighborhood etc.? If memory serves me right I began rebelling around that age, running away from home, questioning and disobeying authority etc. And again if memory serves puberty was no fun either and not too far off in the future to a ten year old. Could the families share the child?

An ounce of prevention beats a pound of whoop ass handily! 1. Avoid crowds. 2. Avoid places which serve alcohol. 3. When out in public do so in the company of a big dog. 4. Carry a large dagger disguised as a walking staff (but be prepared to use any weapon you deploy). I lived in a rough neighborhood and my canine of choice was an Akita Shepard mix (picture Cujo) named Tanya. As gentle as could be! Because just one look was all it took. Neighbors would want to "borrow" Tanya to prevent problems, defuse situations. Loud party? Knock on door with Tanya. Party would quite down quickly. People peeing in public? Walk Tanya in that area, people tend to move along quickly. Does your dog bite ? My reply was "Always on command and sometimes not on command but because of provocation, was always my answer. In the ten years we were together she never bit a person. She knocked a few people down though. One hundred and twenty pounds of muscle and bone was proof of the bigger they are the harder they fall. Yup, walking calmly in awareness with a big stick and a big dog and avoiding closing time whenever possible, worked for me!

Can the Dalai Lama Prevent Self-Immolation?
cold replied to TashiDolma's topic in Buddhist Discussion
Many years ago my peace was shattered by the most terrible sound... my neighbor was screaming in extreme pain "Help me, Help me" I shouted out to others to call 911 and ran a few hundred yards to the screams. To see my neighbor unclothed, hairless more or less, and hurting it was too late for drop and roll his clothes were burnt off... skin blistering... I shouted to him follow me ... trying to lead him up the drive way to the road where the emergency crews would be. The route we took would have broken a snakes back. I never fail to fall into tears when I hear the sirens of an ambulance and begin muttering "Mother Mary pray for us now and at the time of our death"... The ambulance crew bundled him in blankets carefully and quickly. For which I couldn't be more grateful! Afterwards I just kept running and praying... I know he suffered terribly that day and for many months afterwards... I do too, not in the extreme he did, but I suffer every time I see a picture of a person burning or burnt, or remember that day... -
The tip of the v is literally breaking wind, silently for the rest of the flock. They take turns up front. Those following fly a bit higher than the first in line and benefit with less effort required to stay aloft. Those following are squawking their appreciation to the leader for her or his efforts on their behalf. Pelicans and herons often fly within a wing span above the surface of the earth, mostly over water. Less lift is required when in "ground effect" within a wingspan or so of the earth, solo or in a group it does not matter when exploiting ground effect.

In my area the geese are training their young in formation flying. Mostly low level operations. With a lot of (encouraging ) honks from the elders...
