Ever watch a dog or cat lay down? Never seemed to concerned with aligning in any particular direction, (in my experience over the years...) I think trial and error, decreased concern will serve you well. Eat when hungry, drink when thirsty, sleep when tired. When eating eat! When drinking drink! When sleeping sleep! Best wishes.
