this post inspired me to sit with the issue of sexism, manipulation, and PUA for a couple hours yesterday. I realized i get my white knight suit out too and wanted to thank you for the reality check turtleshell. I also realized that everything is self-regulating, and if a person engages in a worldview that divides the world into "pimps" and "hos" then hos is the only kind of woman they are likely to meet. I still see the bling approach to "social value" that america has marketed to the world as being responsible for many problems that men and women face today in their attempt to live a happy life. But i really want to express my appreciation to you for your sensible perspective. While it seems to me that one persons problems are everyone's problems, i really don't need to do anything with i4l but just put him on ignore and stop reading the crap he posts (since that is what i have chosen to do). No need to drag it out further than that. I get kind of passionate about the way women are treated, and i couldnt, in 2 hours, figure out why. I guess i just feel that women deserve better, and that like i mentioned, one persons problems are the groups problems.. but i can't trace my feelings to a source that makes sense to me. Its just a gut thing. Anyway my gratitude for giving me such nourishing food for thought, and for setting a good example...

its not that i do anything that is sworn to secrecy.. i haven't reached that stage of my studies and practice yet. But its that i have been advised, and found it wise, not to talk about my cultivation practices in a public place. Of course i break that rule from time to time, but i still understand when people don't want to share..

well so far, i have lessened the habitual tendency to manipulate the breath. It has become easier in the few weeks i have worked with this technique to just sit and watch my breathing without trying to slow it down or deepen it etc.

when i got out of high school i went travelling, and never really got back to school. Now at 35, still figuring out what i want to be when i grow up, i think that i want to get a two year degree in graphic communication / web design from my local community college. anyone have any feedback on that plan? is anyone in that field who has any helpful advice? thanks

when you say "all women.. [x]" you are bound to be wrong. generalizations like that are almost never correct, and certainly not when it comes to women. sheesh. thats called a blanket statement and its basically a form of logical fallacy. If you pay attention to the arthurian legends, all women wanted sovereignty, but not even that is true. whats true is, people who make blanket statements and gross generalizations are bound to be incorrect.

not even close. what is awesome and great about me has nothing to do with what class i fall into, economically speaking. and there is nothing wrong with odd jobs. The head of the Drikung Kagyu order today (Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche) worked at mcdonalds when he came to new jersey from tibet, and he was grateful for hte opportunity. He learned a lot there, and used it to polish his humility. There is value in everything if you are willing to be open to that value. But if you close yourself off and think you are better than that, you will only create misery for yourself and never learn anything.

why are you asking me questions and then answering for me? if you really cared why i thought these things or acted in that way you would let me answer for myself. but you seem to think you know everything, and as we all know, one can't have a conversation with someone who already knows everything. I find your approach to my scenario to be more narrow-mindedness and shallow cockthink. We obviously work in very different ways, which is fine, except that you presumptuously think that everyone works just like you do. And we don't. Even if most people are that shallow, you might benefit by realizing that many people aren't.

having had multiple girlfriends on several occaisions, i must say that you are wrong. The attitude that women are all the same so if you are heartbroken get another woman is shallow and shortsighted. The reason i have been sad when relationships end, in spite of the fact that i have had other partners, is because i cared about that person and now they are not part of my life. Did that occur to you, that some people develop relationships with others that go beyond the generative organs? Of couse, if one were unable, due to scarring or lack of emotional intelligence, to do so, i can see how your point of view would make sense. Once again i feel compelled to assure you that your point of view is narrow and represents only the tip of an iceberg of relationship experiences.

thanks thetaoiseasy... what i am doing is just trying to use no muscular effort nor manipulate the breath (making it slower, longer, deeper etc) in any way. Its pretty straightforward. Just letting my breath happen naturally. this morning i was slowing my breath down with my mind, just intending it mentally to be slower, but still not manipulating it physically.. it might sound like splitting hairs but what i mean is that i was able to maintain a sense of non-contrivance physically while still being able to affect the rate of breathing with my mentality. It was interesting. Different from how i usually slow my breathing down...

thank you all for your feedback @turtle shell, i will look into IT careers. i happen to be pretty good at art and graphic design, and i think web development/design is also a good industry to get a degree in @aaron, yes no guarantees, and i will be attending community college @johnc, i have tried to get a job without a degree based strictly on my portfolio and it hasn't worked out. i get occasional freelance work, but i would benefit from a degree. the best thing about having debilitating leg injuries is that i can go to school for almost nothing because of my income bracket (i live mostly on disability check, which is next to nothing) so i won't accumulate horrendous debt. Its almost like a recreational thing, or something i can drag out for 3 years and not care a bit about.. so nice! every curse has its blessings

yeah i am definitely going to stick with this... and i hear you about talking about personal practices in public... i never do that, but this isnt secret or personal or tantric or anything so i thought i would share, in the hope that people benefit

thanks everyone @rv, i have serious leg injuries and basically am looking for a desk job. Screens don't bother me. I will continue my yoga and daily workout routine, and take many walks, but something sedentary is precisely the ticket for me. i have blown out my knee over and over again lifting heavy objects and unloading trucks etc.. manual labor is not for poor delicate me lol
