do you have any practices that you do daily? like meditation or qigong? i think more forceful meditation, like bellows breathing, might wear that down over time, and surely there are gongs for that sort of thing. taiji and hatha yoga are probably also going to be effective to some degree. not looking to provide a final answer as much as stimulate discussion here, so hopefully it will lead to something definitive or helpful

Is all of this really true about QiGong?
konchog uma replied to shaq786's topic in General Discussion
empty force (lin kong jing) comes from standing practice (zhan zhuang) moreso than from qigong proper. I have heard stories of it that make it seem like it can be used by masters against their own students, or someone who their qi is familiar with, or who has some kind of condition of being affected <??>, but it doesn't work against joe shmoe on the streets, like in a brawl or something. i am not an expert either, that is only a small answer that hopefully some more experienced bums can comment on. thanks, more experienced bums! -
youre welcome TI the experience i had with pranayama caused me to begin to research kundalini pretty intensely, and to realize that ever since a near death experience 14 years ago, in which i put my arm into the light up to the elbow, and got shocked back to my senses and came back to my physical body, i have had wild kriyas, psychic awakening, and all the other symptoms of kundalini, but did not know what they were (i thought i was crazy, and was having spinal spasms as a result of ptsd or some psychosis). It helps me SOOO much to understand what happens to me in terms of kundalini, it is like the door has been opened to a self-imposed cage i have been in, and i can relax knowing that i am not actually completely fucking nuts or sick or deranged or something. It also explains why, when pranayama first stimulated the strong feeling at my muladhara, it went basically straight up to sahasrara without obstruction. I could talk for a long time about it and how wonderful it has been to finally have a self-nurturing story to tell myself about the shakes and shudders that happen to me instead of feeling like a psychotic freak, but in short, its going really well. I have incorporated kundalini into my daily kuji-in with great effect. I have been working with Mark Griffin via his Deepen Your Practice program. I have been getting to the cores of my chakras and undoing the granthis little by little. thanks for asking. Learning about it has been a new lease on life basically, like "oh thats what that is" i haven't mentioned it much, but its been really huge. :D

i hear you, and ordinarily i like to contest the small minds that think things are simple and just so. but in this case, having had a couple other discussions on the topic of human behavior with i4l, i feel like its like trying to explain the sun to a deep sea fish or a creature that has spent their life in a cave or something. no matter how much i explain that things aren't actually like that, and try to explain how they actually are for some of us who have awakened further, its something that one either already knows and doesn't need to be told, or they have no idea about, and no amount of exposition is going to properly elucidate it for them. So in my esteem, until i4l evolves up out of his sexual and physical energy centers, he is just stuck thinking that the status quo way of looking at women and human behavior is all there is, and there is little i can do about it but give him time to evolve. You can't force these things, if you can affect them at all, its gently IME. so in the spirit of choosing my battles wisely, i am going to leave him to wallow in his ignorance. Sorry K, maybe you can see where i am coming from, maybe it seems like "giving up" but i feel like i already said everything i had to say, and its like talking to a brick wall. "if this is true." how quaint (i don't make things up to seem cooler on the internet! probably because i don't give a fig what people like 14l think of me! lol) anyway im done with this one, better debates in the future K, i promise

right. some people are stuck in the lower energies and ways of processing reality, and for them everything is physical. Once a person opens the heart and moves their consciousness up to the higher centers, it all changes. for example i was dating a model-looking ginger beauty with a trim body and a symmetrical face (lol) but i left her for my girlfriend 3.5 years ago. No contest, even tho my girlfriend is not as symmetrical.. she has more intelligence, emotional depth, and developed energy among other things which do not have anything to do with her physical body. So i am living proof that beauty is not as easy to quantify as this movie (which i havent watched) seems to make it out to be. There are factors for me which completely trump physical beauty, and even tho my girlfriend is pretty, i would still date her even if she wasn't because she is a completely amazing human being. I'm sure some people would say that thats easy for me to say, but im not dating an ugly woman, so theres proof that its all about beauty, but i would encourage those people to raise their life energy before trying to understand what i find attractive. It changes as you evolve on a personal level. The physical is the start of the journey, and from there it only deepens and gets more rich as it moves toward the emotions, mind, and the infinite spirit. so all that stuff i4l said and the links he provided just speak for the least common denominator, the average bear with his kundalini and consciousness dormant and locked in the physical center of consciousness, unable to move higher except to raise the energies to the sacral/genital center when occaisionally stimulated by physical symmetry or smooth skin or something. Those people comprise the majority of the populace, but they, again, are the LCD when it comes to understanding the human psyche. There is much more to it than they represent. just my two cents

Qi-Gong can definitely be an Ego enhancer
konchog uma replied to snbeings's topic in General Discussion
i agree. The word ego didn't exist to the daoist and buddhist masters, or the advaita gurus; freud coined it. I asked a tibetan dharma teacher, who visited my city to give a dharma talk, what word the buddha used which was later translated so widely to "ego". I forget the sanskrit/pali but he said it translated to "conditioned self" or "habitual self" so freuds liason between the id and superego, and the "habitual" or "conditioned" self are two wildly different things. Being in a spontaneous state free of habits and conditions, and destroying self reference, is apples and orange sherbet. don't try to destroy your ego, you'll get hit by a bus. -
i would like to answer your questions thoroughly but i have to run out the door in 2 minutes no not ejaculating at all will make you craaaazy, i would say, for lack of a better way to say it, listen to yourself, your body, and follow your intuition about what is healthy. Dragon X said you need a teacher to retain and to practice the MCO, and thats good advice. If you can find a teacher of qigong, yoga, martial arts, etc who can help you, you will be better off. And i think overintellectualizing is natural for westerners... just don't take your own mind too seriously, and emphasize practice over thoughts sorry for the crappy response, gotta go

with regard to your musical inclinations jhiggs, I would advise that you don't have to really do anything special for the energy you conserve to empower the other areas of your life. I mean you probably could, and I would bet that there are more complex techniques to channel ones life energy into certain pathways to achieve certain ends. But you don't need to visualize a channel of light from your nuts to your right brain or anything if you ask me, that support and vitalization just naturally happens Once the body has a surplus of energy, it generally just puts it where it needs to go. Life force is like an adaptogen herb, it just goes where its needed. If you make music, it will go there. I will say on the converse that sometimes people have difficulty at first with conservation of life force, it tends to build up in areas as it pushes through obstructions, and can present the practitioner with a degree of stress and tension. So that is why i said be gentle with yourself, especially in the beginning. When my sexual energy gets too high, i draw it up out of my lower body, but i just use intention and some PC/abdominal contractions to do it, so if you aren't familiar with moving energy around, that might not help. Practicing the microcosmic orbit (MCO) can be a BIG help to those who are riding the energetic waves of conservation, so check that out! You'll find a lot of Mantak Chia's info if you search, but i recommend also looking into Daniel Reid's take on it. One of my favorite books is called "the tao of health sex and longevity" and is usually available used on amazon for cheeep best to you

taoiseasy, i totally agree dhiggs, why not just try to stop masturbating? if you can't, you're addicted. one more reason to give it up. masturbation is a very depleting, self-defeating activity, and although changing habits can be stressful and challenging, i recommend just trying it and seeing what happens. Don't do it for a day, if you can pull that off, try 2 days. Just keep going. When you can make it a week, shoot for 2 weeks. If you want, i'd say just do it until you have a wet dream, but that can take some building up to for some. i also totally agree with the idea of studying some entry-level energy work, like taiji or qigong or taking up yoga or something similar. Apply your sensual side and love of pleasure to something that will give you long term benefit and increase the quality of life, unlike masturbation and if you take the advice of quitting masturbation, make a careful note of your energies and mental state each day. I have no doubt that as you begin to conserve your life energy you will become more vital and energized in a general way good luck to you!

generally, scriptures are somehow paradoxical, nonlogical, or beyond conventional logic, or in some way cause the mind to leap beyond the limits of its habitual thinking, so i think that for scriptures to be genuine, they do cause that mental leap you're talking about. so i just say that to differentiate between scriptures and books in general.

I think those are great questions z00se. A teacher can guide a student's progress and save them a lot of time and energy. They, and the scriptures are like signposts along the way, at intersections, so you know which way to go to get to your destination. They are not the destination themselves, but as signs they help to get there. Like the finger pointing at the moon metaphor. I don't think that the mind is something that one wants to lose, discard or just let atrophy until it is somehow just like an infant's mind. I think thats a misunderstanding of self-mastery. In higher samadhi states, there is the experience of nonduality, which manifests as a dissolution of self and other, so if you are talking to a man or a woman it makes no difference, an indian or a japanese person, no difference, there is just the experience without judgement or discrimination. So that is like an infant in a way, but there are definitely benefits to being able to discriminate and engage the mentality on a high level. This is why lineages of monastics like tibetan buddhism teach logic, debate, and study scriptures. They are not trying to nullify the mind, that is not enlightenment, that is nihilism of a sort. That doesn't mean that all teachers are going to be helpful, but a good teacher can be helpful, and for some things, necessary.

meditation is generally the best tool to familiarize oneself with their own psyche. my GF used to be promiscuous and anorgasmic, then when she started to have orgasms, a whole lot of crap arose for her to work on, psychologically and energetically. She feels that some of it does not originate in this lifetime, for what thats worth. I add that to introduce the idea that things might not be so linear, or tied to childhood experiences.. karma and unresolved traumas might be at play. But i am not trying to convince, just to explain her feelings on the subject. But through meditation (she favors formless meditation, beyond any particular tradition, and defaults back to shamatha w/out support, focusing on the breath, when she can't sustain the formless meditative state) she has been able to resolve a lot of her issues and increase her connection with herself and with me, and with healthy pleasure and love.

How many Taoists are out there in the TTB....?

sounds like some intense stuff RV! i wish you the best with your 'ordeal'. i love that i have a ninja teacher too!! I love him. Its a really cool relationship. I wish he had more students who just wanted to learn the meditations and internal cultivations, but he runs into a lot of meatheads who want to learn how to kill people better, and he is always kind of at odds with that part of his past so he doesn't really teach it. He has never charged me a cent for teachings either. Not one thin dime. I help him out all the time, financially, and in other ways, but it is amazing to have someone like that in my life!
