  1. What are we expressing?

i think that the brain is the tool of the soul, and can be utilized in its expression. But it is also existing in the physical body, which the soul is not, and so there is seperation. The brainwashing we see on tv and in media is largely designed to get individuals to act against their own higher good, or their soul's intention. So i think the neural pathways can be reorganized, depending on who you listen to, or how much media you take in, to go against the soul and spirit. You could say that on all levels that Self operates, the brain can be entrained to frequencies and patterns which are contrary to the good of that self. Sitting in meditation and just watching the breath, becoming absorbed until your thoughts diminish, is a good way to get the brain back into tune with the soul via the body and the interal energies. But you probably knew that I think that the brain can affect and be affected by emotions, but i find emotions to be oriented in the other organs and subtle energies. So there is a relation in my experience. How many souls there are is probably in relation to the infinity of space in the omniverse or cosmos. So um a lot. And how many souls to we have? That too depends on who you ask. The Maya say three, I posted an article about it here. The egyptians had multiple souls, but i don't know precisely how they broke it down, and the taoists also had multiple souls. So human nature seems to be some kind of aggregate thing, not in the buddhist sense of skandhas, but just that its not so simple as to think there is just one thing going on at a time. Cool questions, i hope more people chime in with their thoughts
  2. Observing without judgement.

in my case, it isn't what i would call a judgement that tells me that punching someone in the face is not good to do. Knowledge, again in my case, is not always a discursive thing or a thing that goes along with positive/negative judgements, ie value judgements. There may be a layer of that at play, and that may be the layer many people operate from, and maybe those people aren't in tune with their inner, silent knowledge. But that doesn't mean its not there. And that knowledge exists, to me, without the interplay of positive and negative, and the internal rhetoric that go into making judgements. In other words, i just know its not good to punch people, somewhere deep in my bones, and i don't have to go through the process of judgement in that situation. I think that this listening to the bones is largely where true spontaneity arises, when we cease to think, and just act. For some people this means punching someone, for some people, this means smiling, for some people this means absolutely nothing, they don't care about getting cut off in line. They probably aren't in a hurry anyway . But i seek to differentiate between the layer of consciousness which is comparative and judgmental, seperated from the situation by the illusion of self and other, and the deeper layer, which just knows immediately, because it is one with the situation, which would be the best way to act.
  3. The Little Book of Hercules

It is interesting to me to see how the myths hide meanings, and it is also good because he points out signposts on the path. So for example, about 2 years ago, i started speaking in verse, just spontaneously rhyming. It was really annoying, and at the end of it i had a period where i couldn't sleep for 3 or 4 nights. I never knew what to make of it, but he points it out as a sign of progress, saying it goes along with cleansing of the main bodily channels of energetic impurities, and is called "the inspiration phase" or something like that. So I haven't seen that info anywhere else, and it helped me to realize, like many other similar passages, where i am on the path as far as my progress towards wholeness and waking goes. There isn't as much practice stuff in the book, its not that kind of book, but he does talk about white skeleton method, and some other basic methods. I didn't really learn any new practices from it though.
  4. Observing without judgement.

that is a really wonderful way of saying things! I kept looking for words because i love neutrality and cutting through discursive thought of all kinds, but you summed it up just right... really nice i would only add to this thread that when you make positive/negative responses of any kind, including value judgements, you are inventing that. Reality is not important until you invent the importance, and doesn't warrant any particular reaction until we invent that reaction. If a car is coming and i choose to get run down, that is fine. I will be back. Or i will go where my karma takes me. It doesn't matter, unless i choose to react positively or negatively and believe in the reality of that reaction. furthermore, if my mind is not caught up in the mechanism of a +/- reaction, my body has that abundance of energy which is free of the process of reaction and is free to move my legs out of the car's way, or any other part of me to accomplish what is really my deep heart's intention. But judgement is not a prerequisite for appropriate action.
  5. Does Magic Exist ?

yes that is a great book!
  6. Does Magic Exist ?

i love Frater Achad. Read the Kybalion and the Hermetic root texts, the ones attributed to Hermes, like the Emerald Tablet. They might not seem like much at first, but there is a treasure buried there. I like Manly P Hall and Phil Hine. My own experience with magic has been more nature oriented and chaotic. I have never been attracted to elaborate rituals and rote incantations and such. So i suggest reading Carlos Casteneda, Taisha Abelar, and Florinda Donner Grau. Read about shamanism, that is the root of magic. James Mooney wrote an intersting work called The Sacred Formulas of the Cherokees. There is a lot of writing about Mayan magic, like "Long Life, Honey in the Heart" and the other works of Martin Prechtel, and Sastun by Rosita Arvigo, both about apprenticing to Mayan shaman/healers. That is where magic really is if you ask me, not in books by John Dee which do readeth thusley and ar most aggerravayting to deceyepher and worse to practice. My advice is bypass the whole OTO/Golden Dawn neo-hermeticism and get to the roots of it. It all comes from Shamanism. capital S.
  7. Chuang Tzu Chapter 6, Section I

from- Wandering on the Way: Taoist Tales and Parables by- Victor Mair "I'm making progress," said Yen Hui. "What do you mean? " asked Confucius. "I have forgotten rites and music. ""Not bad, but you still haven't got it." Yen Hui saw Confucius again on another day and said, "I'm making progress?' "What do you mean?" "I have forgotten humaneness and righteousness?" "Not bad, but you still haven't got it." Yen Hui saw Confucius again on another day and said, "I'm making progress." "What do you mean?" "I sit and forget." "What do you mean, 'sit and forget'?" Confucius asked with surprise. "I slough off my limbs and trunk," said Yen Hui, "dim my intelligence, depart from my form, leave knowledge behind, and become identical with the Transformational Thoroughfare. This is what I mean by "sit and forget." "If you are identical," said Confucius, "then you have no preferences. If you are transformed, then you have no more constants. It's you who is really the worthy one! Please permit me to follow after you." Sir Chariot and Sir Mulberry were friends. Once when it had rained continuously for ten days, Sir Chariot said to himself, "I'm afraid that Sir Mulberry may be in distress." So he wrapped up some food in a piece of cloth and went to feed him . When he reached Sir Mulberry's gate, he heard the strumming of a lute and a plaint that sounded as though it were between singing and crying: "Was it father? Was it mother? Heaven? Earth?" The voice could barely sustain itself and the verses were uttered in haste. Sir Chariot entered and asked, "Why is your song like this?" "I am thinking about who might have brought me to this extremity, but can't come up with an answer. Surely my father and mother would not wish for me to be so poor. And heaven shows no preference in whom it covers nor earth in whom it supports. How could they show preference in making me poor? I seek to find who might have done it, but can't succeed. Well, perhaps it was simply destiny that brought me to this extremity!"
  8. Does Magic Exist ?

  9. Does Magic Exist ?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Book_of_Abramelin i don't get into that sort of magic. (grimoire's of other people and Hermetic magic that um orderly) But everyone is different. That wiki page raised several concerns, but you might get a lot out of it. See if you can find a copy of Paul Christian's (Jean Baptiste Pitois' pen name) The History and Practice of Magic... they float around on the internet for not too high a price. I would start there.

  11. Does Magic Exist ?

magic exists, but its not always as easy as saying an incantation and money falling out of the sky into your lap. There's not a wide market for magic in today's overly appearance oriented world, so many practicing magi are poor. but if you are asking, can a person invoke energy or spiritual force/forces in order to receive a response, the answer is unequivocally yes. Don't judge a magus by their bank account tho, money is an earth element thing and magic is usually less dense and rooted in the fire of transformation. They are two entirely different things. i agree with informer about angels and demons.. oversimplified ways of dealing with an infinite omniverse of countless beings of varying moral orientations. i like your observation that your life is indeed miraculous. Everything is thusly miraculous! But i won't derail your thread. Energies and forces can be harnessed and directed by the mind, intention, sound vibrations, body movements, prayers, etc. In that way, all human life is magic and magical! But stumbling along blindly and harnessing the power of your own intention are two different things now aren't they
  12. Taoist Approach to Dating

    and don't expect anything.
  13. Scotty, thanks! nice... Seth, the reviews i read of Singh's work seemed to imply that it was more a scholarly work, in that it was perceived as erudite but dry. I don't like Osho, he's a creep, and not authentic IMO. I feel the same way you do about Odier, the whole Sanskrit to French to English thing kinda keeps me at arms length when it comes to him. And thanks to Scotty's link, i can read him for free! I like lakshman joo, although sometimes he writes in a style that's hard for me to understand, because i don't know all those sanskrit terms. I just need to keep studying so i can keep up! haha ...I'll try to let you all know how i like the book when it arrives
  14. why did creation happen according to Taoism?

creative by nature means that by its nature, dao is creative. As in, you saying, "Tao created the universe". Hence, its creative nature. Not that dao was creatED by nature. I hope this clarifies any misunderstanding. @beatthinker: yes quite so, nice point
  15. thanks for the responses i went with lakshman joo, but instead of "A Practice in Centering Awareness" i got his hardcover, "A Manual for Self-Realization" Barnes and Noble wanted $50 for it but i got it on amazon for $14 new. ??? i don't understand how these things work. it was $135 and up used. ???
