  1. Scotty, I stand by your right to speak your mind. I agree with you that nobody has permission to run around psychically molesting other people with their qi. Thats messed up. Its not a sign of attainment, its a sign that he has very shaky boundaries and value system. I don't personally care if he posts here or not, and I appreciate reading your point of view.
  2. Debunking Fake QiGong Power

like i said in my last post, try something different than qigong fakery fearmongering
  3. Debunking Fake QiGong Power

bro you're the lost one. If you really care so much about us, quit spamming our threads with stories about qigong fakery. Or switch it up. Stories about medical fakery, academic fakery, etc. I would rather watch a vid of a guy who says he can drink 20 shots and then passes out at 17 than read anything more about qigong fakery. Like everyone is saying, our practice is really enriching our lives. We know there are fakers. We don't care. We stay away from them. Quit offering problems problems problems to us without offering solutions. Post something about a qigong master who isnt a faker for example.
  4. Debunking Fake QiGong Power

so what is your point? that some qigong masters are illegitimate? Okay. Next topic.
  5. Debunking Fake QiGong Power

Some people cheat on math tests. That doesn't mean that math is illegitimate.
  6. Korean Ginseng

SAFETY ISSUES AFFECTING CHINESE HERBS: The Case of Ginseng essay by Subhuti Dharmananda, Ph.D., Director, Institute for Traditional Medicine, Portland, Oregon http://www.itmonline.org/arts/ginseng.htm this is a really good article dispelling a lot of ginseng myths and talking about many points of view on ginseng. i found it really helpful.
  7. Korean Ginseng

i hope so, but its hard to isolate one product out of many. I also do qigong and meditate every day, and a lot of taiji, so its hard to know where my energies come from. i know it certainly tastes like ginseng, so i am assuming it has ginsenosides and all the other splendid properties, although i have never seen test results.
  8. Just a Human Being :)

    Thanks, I really enjoyed that.
  9. what?! you say some wild stuff but that takes the cake man. people can stretch their hip flexors, periformis, psoas, etc until they can sit in full lotus, and not be enlightened or have succeeded in anything except stretching those muscles and tendons. And other people can succeed in meditation sitting on a chair! People can succeed in meditation in all kinds of positions. That is why there are all kinds of positions of meditation. And before you respond with "20 minutes of full lotus is worth 4 hours in other positions according to ChunYi Lin!" remember that 1 we have all heard that line 50 times now and 2 it doesnt (even if it is true) mean that other meditation positions are not capable of leading to meditative success. i personally think you should be careful about spreading disinformation. Especially if its based on one quote taken out of context. People read this forum looking for factual information about practice. I was one of those people for years, and now that i post here, i can't let what you are saying slide by without comment.
  10. Korean Ginseng

http://www.amazon.com/INSTANT-KOREAN-GINSENG-Tea-Bags/dp/B003VMI0GK i had to chuckle when i saw the price because the asian markets in my town sell the same box for $7.99 but i use 1 or 2 a day in my black teas, its like freeze-dried ginseng powder or something.. note its an instant tea, not teabags.

  13. Could this have a negative effect on my health?

"Soon it just stopped and left me sitting there with the bliss slowly calming down." no need to monger fear. He didn't say he was having uncontrollable spasms, he said he was having spontaneous movement of his energies. Which is what energies do in some cases. i don't think there's a need to call a specialist in hong kong
  14. Could this have a negative effect on my health?

http://www.easterninternalarts.org/ in the Store theres a DVD called Qigong For Self-Healing Series 1. Sifu Lamb covers spontaneous movement qigong in it.
  15. Hot Tea

i was gonna order the dao ren but then at the last minute i got the gunpowder... my gf and i both like gunpowder but we weren't sure about a light green tea, cause we have 2 of those right now and we don't drink them voraciously and a half pound of pu'erh!! wow that stuff is good. i like your new pic what is that on your head?
  16. Keeping one's practices secret

I have read in a couple places that one should never reveal their meditations or internal practices to others. Practices which are occult are said to gain power from being so, and to reveal them to others is thus said to diminish their "potency" or efficiency. I have seen this line of thought in both eastern and western traditions. Even buddhists, who believe it is not good to lie, teach don't talk about one's accomplishments and practices with another person. I assume they mean "who isn't your lama" but whatever. Hahahah save the drama for your lama!! Has anyone ever had their meditation teacher tell them this? Or perhaps read it in books? I am wondering, is this superstition from an age where keeping practices hidden was more necessary? Or is there something subtle to this idea that people should know about? Any thoughts on the subject are appreciated. I would like to start a personal practice journal here, but the idea that sharing what i am doing with a lot of people might diminish it keeps nagging at me. Well thanks for your thoughts my bumly friends
  17. MCO - references in other modern systems?

    thats a cool point
  18. MCO - references in other modern systems?

I am pretty sure that there is a lot more to it ... I just can't speak from experience. I am awaiting the response of other members curiously. I like that about stillness and movement, good point. All i really know is that I am inclined to "do" the MCO all the time.. I was doing it this morning and my energies just reversed spontaneously, my dantian started rotating backwards, and my body refused to do anything but circulate the wind path, or reverse, MCO. It was neat, but i think my body is telling me i should do that more often. Some practitioners swear by the reverse movement of the MCO, and they cite Master Lao's verse in the TTJ "the movement of the way is reversal". So i will add the question to the queue, what exactly does the wind path accomplish? For me it is just a way of reducing stagnation and giving my energy a "boost" but i can tell by the boost that there is something deeper going on whazupwidat?
  19. hi there

    duh everyone likes zz top
  20. MCO - references in other modern systems?

Well to circulate energy dispels stagnation. Also, i think the ren and du mai are said to govern the other 6 reservoirs in the body, so by "turning the water wheel" it is said that one can regulate the distribution of energy evenly throughout the system. Damo Mitchell talks about that in Daoist Neigong. And i just finished reading The Tao of Meditation by Tsung Hwa Jou in which he gives a technique of sublimating the sexual energy (jing) into vitality (chi) by means of a MCO meditation.. nothing unusual about it, just that by circulating the energy, the nature of that energy becomes sublimated.
  21. Good Food!

I'm sitting here eating a cold salad made with quinoa, pears, cranberries, and pomegranate seeds, and i'm reading the tea thread thinking "there should be a food thread!" One thing that has been really keeping me awesomely happy this winter is a simple dish i've been making with lamb, eggs, and kimchi. I saute the lamb in a small cast iron skillet til its 2/3 cooked, crack some eggs over them, and top it with salt, pepper, and kimchi. I cover it and let it cook about 6-10 minutes til the eggs are almost solid (i like them a little runny). Local organic lamb and eggs (of course)... oh my gosh its so good I hope this thread gets hot with cool ideas for food.. i was in a food rut for a while, eating the same 5 or 6 things over and over again, and it was sharing recipes and ideas that got me to try some awesome stuff.. so i just wanted to pass the love on
  22. This is who I am voting for in 2012

  23. When to meditate and when not.

many conditions can hinder meditation! But there are many kinds of meditation, and one of the kinds that is recommended for people with fidget problems is mantra meditation. Mudras can also help, not a particular mudra for fidgiting, but just any mudra with the hands can give the mind something to do, so that it isn't as distracted by its own mechanism. Practicing with more active meditations before trying to do less is a pretty common recommendation for people with your report. I think that this extends to counting the breaths, and generally engaging the mind in some way in order to build concentration. Once one has concentration, they can do emptiness meditations and other meditations that cause the monkey mind to rear its head.
  24. Good Food!

oh that yummly site looks just splendid! I'm gonna find a soba noodle broth that rocks the world thank you!
  25. hua hu ching real fake?

a taoist text commonly attributed to lao tzu. Commentary on the text doesn't appear until hundreds of years later though, so it seems likely that later masters (or A later master) wrote the text and then attributed it to lao tzu. Such practice was not uncommon, much like the yijinjing and jisuijing are commonly attributed to bodhidharma, but didn't appear until much later, causing debate about their authenticity. to friend, i give a high-five for cutting through the materialism of the issue to the bone of it. It doesn't matter who wrote it. I don't care if it was lao tzu or some village drunk. What matters is the wisdom contained therein, and I have found the text to be very helpful. It is basically a dialogue between a master and student about internalism, meditation, mindfulness, and mastery. I recommend HuaChingNi's version, but there are others.. any way you cut it, its worth reading
