its really rude when someone puts together a thoughtful response in an attempt to educate you, and you say "oh thats not what we're talking about" its what friend was talking about isn't it? why don't you give an equally thoughtful answer instead of a copout? just an idea -
Qi Gong, lots of people are using it to deceive
konchog uma replied to Lao Tzu's topic in Daoist Discussion
yeah i think what we have is the AMA and the FDA and all the other medical overseers who have a vested interest (a very very very profitable one) in keeping people sick so they can sell them pharmaceuticals and overpriced, low quality health care. Planned obsolescence of the human body! So the last disease that the beast of science actually cured was hahaha probably polio in the 50s, and jonas salk is a hero today. That last statement does not honor stem cell research but then again hoohooohooooo neither does the medical industry. So with very few exceptions, there is a deep interest in keeping people sick so they can sell them drugs. Since the mainstream media is controlled by the corporations and by the pentagon, there isn't evidence available to people that cancer can be cured. You have to look well off the beaten path, and then the blind naysayers like mr tzu can say "oh well thats not a journal of an acCREDitted institution blahblaaahblahahaahah" and so forth. Its a real conundrum that most people can't see through because they feed at the television like a baby at a nipple, and just like a baby, cry when something that isn't mainstream milk enters the equation. Just like mr tzu's opinions are just regurgitated opinions of the chinese governmental propeganda machine. But cancers have been cured, tumors go away, the more you look it up the more testimonials you will find of people who said "i just decided to heal, and wow it worked". Some of them use qigong and some don't, but does qigong heal? More than western medicine's approach to cancer does!! HAhaha So how about mr tzu get worked up about the deception of the mainstream media, the monster corporations, the medical establishment, or the government agencies that are causing so much illness? Instead of this pretentious ire about qigong cheaters that boils down to personal prejudice based on opinions without substantiating evidence?! Or worse, an inability to think outside of what the oppressive chinese government tells you?!? -
A person named Lee had heard that there was a master whose manners and appearance were of the highest degree of elegance, and who possessed a high degree of knowledge. He went to visit the master and found him sitting under a pine tree with a classic text in his hand. The master's concentration on the classics was so great, he failed to notice Lee's arrival. Lee had a quick temper, and was also very impatient. He immediately became angry with the master, supposing him so arrogant as to find Lee completely unimportant. He said to the master angrily, "To meet someone in person is not as good as to hear of their reputation!" and turned to leave. The master laid down his book and looked up at Lee with a smile. "Sir, why do you place more emphasis on what you hear than on what you see?" Lee was unconcerned with the master's sarcasm, and decided to test him. He asked, "Master, can you tell me what Tao is?" The master pointed up with his index finger, and then pointed down. He asked "Do you understand?" Lee responded "I don't know" "The cloud is in the blue sky and the water is in the gourd." Lee suddenly lost his disrespectful attitude and became enlightened.

yeah i guess in the classic sense, its not a koan riddle with a transcendental answer. its more like a weird story with the word dao in it sorry

if you drop wheat, you'll lose weight, i have to agree with that in general! Buckwheat is awesome.. i have some dark green buckwheat noodles i have been waiting for the right occasion to cook up. Any suggestions anyone? i just ripped the kapok stuffings out of my zafu and replaced them with 5lb organic buckwheat hulls... i could feel a massive energetic difference. The first thing my girlfriend said when she sat on it was "wow this feels so much better", referring to energy, not the sensation of buckwheats under ones butt now that doesn't have anything at all to do with eating more buckwheat, but i thought i would throw it in there cause i was really happy about it. hahahaah! for my next trick i will derail my own thread gonna go check out that link now

your responses are really predictable. why don't you provide some evidence to support YOUR claims, instead of saying "oh i'll be back later to try to support that" and then never addressing it again? -
from "Wandering on the Way: Taoist Tales and Parables" by Victor Mair Life and death are destined. Their constant alternation, like that of day and night, is due to heaven. What men are unable to interfere with are the attributes of all things. They particularly regard heaven as their father and love it with their very person. How much more should they love that which surpasses heaven! Men particularly regard their lord as superior to themselves and would sacrifice their very person for him. How much more should they be willing to do so for what is truer than any lord! When springs dry up, fish huddle together on the land. They blow moisture on each other and keep each other wet with their slime. But it would be better if they could forget themselves in the rivers and lakes. Rather than praising Yao [sage] and condemning Chieh [tyrant], it would be better for people to forget both of them and assimilate their ways. A boat may be hidden in a gully on a hill that, in turn, is hidden away in a marsh. We may think this is a secure arrange- ment, but someone strong might come in the middle of the night and bear the boat away, unbeknownst to the sleeping owner. The idea of hiding the smaller in the larger is appropriate, yet things may still disappear. But if we were to hide all under heaven inside of all under heaven, nothing would disap- pear. This is the great attribute of the eternality of things . We are especially happy when we chance to take on human form. What incalculable joy there is in these myriad transformations, such as human form, which never begin to reach a limit! Therefore, the sage wanders where things do not disappear and all are preserved. If people will emulate one who is good at being young and good at growing old, good at beginning and good at ending, how much more should they emulate that to which the myriad things are joined and upon which the unity of transformation depends The Way has attributes and evidence, but it has no action and no form. It may be transmitted but cannot be received. It may be apprehended but cannot be seen. From the root, from the stock, before there was heaven or earth, for all eternity truly has it existed. It inspirits demons and gods, gives birth to heaven and earth. It lies above the zenith but is not high; it lies beneath the nadir but is not deep. It is prior to heaven and earth, but it is not ancient; it is senior to high antiquity, but it is not old. The clansman Hsiwei attained it, and thereby demarcated heaven and earth; The clansman Fuhsi attained it, and thereby adjusted the breath of the mother. Polaris attained it, and has not deviated throughout the ages; The sun and moon attained it, and have never rested throughout the ages; K'anp'i attained it, and thereby inherited Mount K'unlun P'ingyi attained it, and thereby wandered in the great rivers. Chien Wu attained it, and thereby dwelled on supreme Mount T'ai; The Yellow Emperor attained it, and thereby ascended to cloud-filled heaven. Chuan HsU attained it, and thereby dwelled in his dark palace. Yiich'iang attained it, and stands at the north pole . The Queen Mother of the West attained it, and sits at faraway Shaokuang; no one knows her beginning , no one knows her end. Progenitor P'eng attained it, and lived from the time of Shun to the time of the five hegemons. Fu Yiieh attained it, and thereby became minister of Wuting, grandly in possession of all under heaven; mounted upon Sagittarius, riding upon Scorpio, he joined the arrayed stars.

cutting out wheat made a HUGE difference in my life! i didn't know i had celiac until i did a 21 day fast and then as soon as i ate wheat again, i had a bad allergic reaction! No more wheat, and my thinking and physical health and vitality cleared up immensely. is your little 15 year old seriously allergic or is that just your way of saying she won't eat that stuff? btw dig your recipe, and if you have to do 2 menus, it seems cool to do one dish that can be eaten 2 different ways

that happens to me, especially when im doing flying phoenix (bending the bow).. i see a golden glow where my hands are, except that its through my eyelids. I always just figured i was perceiving with my spirit and not with my physical eyes. Maybe a "3rd eye" thing.. I never try to hard to classify or categorize those sorts of experiences, and I recommend taking any explanations with a grain of salt. Not saying that anyone here Doesn't know what they are talking about, just than IME its better to remain flexible when dealing with that sort of phenomenon. also, i dont put 3rd eye in quotes because i doubt its existance, just to say that i think we perceive with our spirits so thats one level of the third eye, and there are other levels to it, like the "false third eye" the "true third eye" the "heaven eye" the "dharma eye" the "wisdom eye" etc... so i put it in quotes just because im using it very generally to cover any kind of non-physical sight phenomena I agree with whoever said good work, keep it up!

a recommendation of some Awesome pu'ehr tea i found recently on (where else) http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/ Pu'erh Tea Origin- China Fair Trade Certified- Yes Learn More The Black Pu-erh tea we offer is hand harvested from wild and semi-wild broad leaf antique tea trees located in the Yunnan province of China. Black Pu-erh is often referred to as "cooked" due to the fact that sun-dried green tea leaves are transformed through natural fermentation from a greenish-golden color to a blackish-red tone. Over the years Pu-erh has garnered a committed following amongst tea connoisseurs who regard it as a sacred relic leftover from ancient tea cultures and traditions. The Black Pu-erh we offer brews up a deep ochre red and has a rich earthy taste with notes of smoke and moss. Certified Organic and Fair Trade. Contains caffeine. from http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/tea_bev/tea_black.php#t_gw_t_pu 4oz for 6.75... it is SO creamy.. completely wonderful tea, i am gonna burn through 4oz so fast! It makes the pu-ehr from the asian market taste um lesser. my girlfriend loves lapsang souchang, and tried mountain rose herbs variety, and said it also was "super nice, really good, full flavored".. i haven't tried it yet but i look forward to it soon

Mr Mair puts all that in Section 6 Chapter 1, so i made a mistake and posted it all under what Legge calls Chapter 6 Section A. I will repost it here. Sorry for the confusion! from Wandering on the Way: Taoist Tales and Parables by Victor Mair To know the actions of heaven and to know the actions of man, that's the ultimate! She who knows the actions of heaven will live in accordance with heaven. She who knows the actions of men can nourish what is unknown to her intellect with what is known to her intellect. Thus she can live out the years allotted to her by heaven and not die midway. This is the height of knowledge. However, there is still some difficulty. Namely, knowledge has to depend on something for its consequent accuracy, but that which it depends on is particularly unstable. How do we know that what we attribute to heaven may not be due to man, and that what we attribute to man may not be due to heaven? Only when there is a true man is there true knowledge. What is a true man? The true man of old did not oppose the minority, did not strive for heroic accomplishments, and did not scheme over affairs. Such being the case, he did not regret it when he made a mistake nor feel smug when he was right. Such being the case, he could climb high without trembling, enter water without getting soaked, and enter fire without feeling hot. Only one whose knowledge can ascend the heights of the Way can be like this. The true man of old did not dream when he slept and did not worry when he was awake. His food was not savory, his breathing was deep. The breathing of the true man is from his heels, the breathing of the common man is from his throat. The words of those who unwillingly yield catch in their throats as though they were retching. Those whose desires are deep-seated will have shallow natural reserves. The true man of old knew neither fondness for life nor aversion to death, was neither elated by going forth nor reluctant to return. Casually he went and casually he came. He neither forgot what his beginning had been nor sought what his end would be. Happily he received and forgetfully he returned. This is what is meant by not detracting from the Way with the mind, not assisting heaven with the human. This is what we call a true man. Such being the case, his mind was forgetful, his visage calm, his forehead beamingly broad. Austere as autumn, warm as spring, his joy and anger were in touch with the four seasons. He was compatible with all things but no one knew his limits The true man of old Was towering in stature but never collapsed, Seemed insufficient but accepted nothing; Aloofly independent but not obstinate, Amply empty but not ostentatious , Merry, as though he were happy, Demurring, as though he were compelled, Suffused with an alluring charm, Endowed with an arresting integrity, Stern, as though he were worldly, Arrogant, as though he were uncontrollable, Reticent, as though he preferred to clam up, Absent-minded, as though he forgot what to say. Thus his likes were reduced to one and his dislikes were also reduced to one. His "one" was one and his "not one" was also one. Being "one," he was a follower of heaven. Being "not one" he was a follower of man. He in whom neither heaven nor man is victorious over the other is called a true man.

hahah i got my brown hair back from grey with he shou wu.. it was just salt n pepper tho, now just pepper! its AKA "fo-ti" and you can get half a pound of cured root for less than $7 from rose mountain herbs.. i don't know what they have for suppliments, but they are %100 certified organic. some people recommend not using he shou wu longterm, so do some research before you take it for 6 months. the main chinese kidney herb is rheumannia (which was an ingredient in Lee Cheung Yen's "spring wine"), it is also pretty inexpensive. Dandelion leaves and rhubarb root are recommended as well. both are also available cheaply. I recommend adaptogens like eleuthero, ginseng, reishi mushrooms, maybe ashwagandha (thats another one cautioned against for longterm use tho) as well for general healing.

@xabir: thanks for taking the time to answer. I meant it doesn't fit with what i experienced. My mind is open, but thanks for reminding me. I just disagree with some of buddhism. The two aren't mutually exclusive. its actually because i am openminded that i disagree with some of buddhism hahah -

I guess I'll take your lack of response to mean that you have never wondered that. I wonder that. Do buddhists think that this occured spontaneously, without a being to guide it? That the big bang just happened, and from some random explosion in space all this occured? It seems more likely that from a random tornado in a junkyard, a working 747 would be assembled. I know the doctrine of beginninglessness but an event called the big bang actually happened, even if its just a phase in a great cycle. The expansion of the universe and the red/blue shift when we observe stars tells us that very clearly. Because of a long near-death experience i had, the "creator" (or intelligent singularity, or spirit of the All, or whatever have you) is obvious to me. But before that, it wasn't. So i don't expect anyone else to believe what i believe, not having experienced what i did. But i am curious how buddhists reconcile the basic reality that all mystics have perceived the great spirit except them?? Don't some buddhists say "well i'm buddhist but not dogmatically.. maybe there are things buddhism doesn't understand" or am i the only one? -
