  1. Chuang Tzu Chapter 5, Section B

Mr Mair... Shent'u Chia had been mutilated by having one of his feet cut off. He and Kungsun Sir Ch'an, prime minister of the state of Cheng, were studying together under Uncle Obscure Nobody. "Either I leave first and you stay here," Sir Ch' an said to Shent'u Chia, "or you leave first and I stay here." The next day they sat down together on the same mat in the hall. "Either I leave first and you stay here;" Sir Ch'an said to Shent'u Chia, "or you leave first and I stay here. Now I am about to leave. Can you stay here for a while or not? Moreover, when you see a minister of state and do not step aside for him, do you consider yourself his equal?" "Is there really a minister of state such as this studying in our master's school?" asked Shent'u Chia. "Are you so pleased with your prime ministership that you would look down on others? I have heard it said: `If a mirror is bright, dust and dirt will not settle on it; if they settle on it, then the mirror is not bright. If one associates with wise men for long, he will be faultless.' Now, the great one with whom you have chosen to study is our master, and yet you utter words such as these. Isn't this a bit much?" "In spite of the fact that you are like this;" said Sir Ch'an, "you would still contest with Yao over who's the better man. If you take stock of your own virtue, shouldn't that be enough to prompt you to self-reflection?" "Many are those who gloss over their own faults, believing they ought not to suffer;" said Shent'u Chia." Few are those who do not gloss over their own faults, believing they ought not to be spared. Only a person of integrity can recognize the inevitable and accept it as his destiny. It is only destiny that prevents someone who wanders within range of the archer's bow from being struck. There are many people who laugh at me for having only one foot because they have both of their feet. It makes me boiling mad, but when I come here to the master's place, I return to my former placidity. Perhaps it's because the master purifies me with his goodness. I have wandered with him for nineteen years already, but he has never made me aware of my mutilation. Now you and I are wandering inside of the physical body, but you keep drawing me outside. Isn't that a bit much?" Shuffling his feet with shame, Sir Ch'an changed his expres- sion and said sedately, "Mention no more about it, sir."

  6. Closed Door Krapola?

i think it came from the distinction between "indoor" and "outdoor" students which sounds innocent. But its all the same things regardless of what you call it so i don't know ???
  7. Learning Qi Gong/Yoga/Meditation in Asia?

sinansencer, you will be lucky to find one teacher worth studying under, much less 3 or 4. It sounds to me like you are biting off a lot but i don't know all the facts or circumstances, so take that with a grain of salt. Living with tribal people is usually an invite only thing, you can't just roll into indigenous communities and ask for a place to sleep. Most of them have been so put upon by westerners that they will not be nice to you just because you are nice to them. If you don't have anything that can benefit their culture, they might not even talk to you. I am not trying to pee in your waterfall, just saying that I have friends that went to thailand india and the himalayas and ashram after ashram and it was not easy for them to find teachings. Have a backup plan. Buy a copy of Daniel Odier's book "Meditation Techniques of the Buddhist and Taoist Masters" and just enjoy being in the east if you can't work something awesome out right away. Or plan on being able to teach english before you go so that if you want to stay you have a means to do so.
  8. Fullness

i think that all manner of permutations could be concocted its to push the mind beyond words so you could say "slimey orange goat blather freak" for all i care although form and emptiness have a nice ring to it
  9. "Spirit" - what is it?

in the (cough) spirit of spirit being something you can't describe you just have to witness for yourself, i hope this help you all. I think Junior IS a spirit cause people can't do that stuff man!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ammAU-RKDhs edit: actually i'm serious, i think there is a highly cultivated shen involved in what he is doing
  10. "Spirit" - what is it?

your native concepts or roots manuva?! edit: i think they are both daoist at heart
  11. Mountain Rose Herbs

a pound of spirulina sounds awesome! hahahah i have never used maca powder i have to look it up well it was 20/lb on the site i found, but it sounds great! mountain rose herbs = 10.50/lb!
  12. Haiku Chain

facets, spider's eye. flies to silk, the weaver's art. internalism.
  13. Chuang Tzu Chapter 5, Section A

In short, daoists have always flown in the face of convention and cultivated spontaneous non-doings, and in the opinion of many daoists in Chuang Tzu's time, confucianism represented convention itself, and contrived doings. hehehe Confucius was rumored to have counted out the number of grains of rice he would cook for dinner, and other such things, so maybe he was anal retentive or OCD, which annoyed the daoists to no end. You can still see traces of the same thinking here and now, when buddhists start going on about this doctrine or that concept, and it bugs the traditional daoist types.
  14. Fullness

beautiful! in light of whats been said about emptiness here lately, i think fullness is good to remember as part of the yinyang of reality as we experience it. escapists want to say "form is emptiness" but they forget easily that "emptiness is form"
  15. Emptiness

    too late
  16. Healing the kidneys.

Thanks scotty. Yeah audiohealing, given your situation, i wouldnt recommend fasting. Sorry about that. I'm only doing it cause i caught it early, and also, i fast yearly for weeks at a time so my body isn't very toxic, and its also used to fasting. It's what my body and guidance told me to do at this time. btw my kidneys literally feel better every day Scotty. I can't cite sources or anything, but i think that fasting does strange things to the body beyond just detox.. i think it goes into repair mode, like on a cellular level, and heals extra rapidly. I am not really sure though, but i think thats what happens to me!! maybe i'm a freak... to much kuji-in hahahha
  17. Healing the kidneys.

also i think cranberry juice is good for your kidneys. Get the fresh squeezed not the concentrate tho
  18. Healing the kidneys.

I am healing my kidneys too, but they are not as bad as yours. I do Yang Jwing Ming's si ji gong seasonal qigong every morning (the winter set for kidneys, with the massage and vital point stimulation. You can buy it here http://ymaa.com/publishing/dvd/qigong_DVD/understanding_qigong_DVD4 and if you don't have 40 bucks to spend on a new gong, there are torrents.) and i also spend time meditating on fa qi (holy qi) as a brilliant light with a golden aura entering my kidneys until they glow in my mind's eye. I do this by itself and in combination with sha of kuji-in. That give me a great idea! I will practice kuji-kiri and draw a kidney talisman! I love making talismans I think it was a combination of too many years mistreating my body, and the straw that broke the camels kidney's a recent prescription of ciprofloxcin<sp> for a bacterial bursae infection in my knee! That stuff put the HURT on my kidneys, so I am in the 4th day of a fast right now, focusing on green drinks (R.W. Knudsen's superfoods drink with barley grass, spirulina, and chlorella), kombucha (which is especially good for the kidneys but don't drink more than 2 a day, that can stress your kidneys), tea of all kinds (especially green tea masala chai), pao d'arco bark tea, yogi tea's Peach Detox (which is targeting kidney health unlike some of their other detox teas) and of course LOTS OF WATER! Since my girlfriend is out of town and took the juicer, i am supplimenting all that with some carrot juice from the local organic food co-op when i go there, but i can't drink 5 lbs worth of carrot juice a day! woe is me. Although for kidneys, i recommend beet juice, its enzymes target the kidneys, carrot is more a liver cleanse, but they are both good! Oh yes also i am not drinking coffee until the tightness goes away. More woe! hahaaha I was just having a tight feeling in my lower back and trouble visualizing them glowing brightly. My left one feels tighter than my right one, and is harder to visualize a glow in it. It was black but since fasting it has started to light up easily again. whew! I was pretty scared at first but i have a good feeling about it now. Good luck to you audiohealing, I hope you can overcome your ailment.
  19. Closed Door Krapola?

haha feelings aren't right or wrong they're just feelings, but the strong ones rarely take into account the entire picture from a logical point of view. I have to admit though, that would irk me too!! teachers have always felt the responsibility to protect powerful techniques from those who might abuse them. So for that reason, they made a student prove their sincerity and character as well as work their ass off before they would teach them the true internal aspects of an art. think about it from 1000 feet up in the air, not identifying with your feelings for a moment. If just anyone could go to a teacher and pay them for a powerful technique, all that would foster is rich people getting more powerful. And as we all know, rich people are rarely the models of virtue and responsibility that we wish they were. So for that reason, teachers taught what they wanted to outdoors, but only invited the students that had proved themselves indoors. Don't get me wrong, i dont pretend to know the motivations of Every teacher, or say that discrimination is always prudent. But i am saying that there is a good reason for protecting the secrets of a lineage from fools with money, and saving them for those who had proven themselves.
  20. Sexual Repression or an open attitude?

can you link to the data you're citing? i'm curious about thailand and some other countries i can't explain that to myself... weird.. thanks for shaing!

  22. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung

thats awesome stuff!! how long do you practice daily? thanks for sharing!
  23. Yin training vs Yang Training

thats a nice video. Yes, any yinyang divides into more yinyang and comprises more larger yinyang in infinite regression. And yes anything you divide into to can be categorized as yin and yang, usually both ways. I said what i had to say, and i don't really wish to discuss it further.
  24. Taobums Q&A with Kosta Danaos
